Rating: Summary: This is Garbage Review: I downloaded the demo of this item and it worked fine. After having spent [some money] for the program, I find that I cannot save the edited mpeg as I get the message, "This program has performed and illegal operation, blah, blah, blah". I cannot get a response from the Manufacturer, ..., I cannot get a response from the distributor, (Amazon.com). ... Caveat Emptor.
Rating: Summary: A Good Basic and Easy-to-Use Video Editor Review: I have been using this software for a few weeks by now. I have used it to convert a few hundred .avi files into .mpg ones, merge several .mpg files into one .mpg file, and do some simple editing like cutting video clips, etc.. So far, I really have not found any problem with this software. Whenever I encountered a problem, it was actually the problem with the original video clip itself that could be fixed by reproducing it with another software before it was fed to Honestech Mpeg Editor again. Please note that you can not edit Quick Time video clips with this software. I used RAD Video Tool which was a freeware to convert .mov files into .avi ones before sending them to Honestech Mpeg Editor or All Video Converter to convert them into .mpg files. The user interface of this program is not fancy at all, but pretty much idiot-proof. (I like all the idiot-proof products.) I like the way that you have two windows for video clips to look at: One for the old video clips and the other is for the new clip. If you are looking for a basic and cheap video editor to edit your AVI and MPEG files, it does not hurt to try it. You can download its trial version either from download.com or its company web site. BTW, in case you may wonder about it, my PC runs Windows XP. So you know that at least it runs fine on Windows XP. I have not tried it on other versions of Windows so that I can not say anything about it. And, please pay attention to the file size. It can not handle files the sizes of which are greater or equal to 2GB. Since RAD can generate .avi files that are much larger than 2GB, I had to break up the original Quick Time files into pieces and convert them seperately and then join the resulting .mpg files with Honestech Mpeg Editor in the end. Have fun using it!
Rating: Summary: Poor business practices Review: I purchased this title from the manufacturers website, and downloaded it after paying. Using the product was extremely easy. And it produced great mpreg's within the program when I previewed them. The trouble I had was saving the mpeg's. I would save it, and then try to open it outside of the program and it would give me an "Invalid Format" error. I emailed the company several times, and never received a reply. Time had passed, and so I was no longer able to dispute the charge. I will never deal with this company again, which is unfortunate, because the product is great except for that single error.
Rating: Summary: Only the 5.0 version Review: The 5.0 version works flawlessly. I edited, added sound and effect, and saved on the CD as MPEG II, then played back on my DVD player just fine. Yes, don't expect any reply from their tech support as I tried several times to ask questions regarding its features before purchasing it, and get no reply. But as it is simple to use and stable as the product is, there is no need for any support really. My review is based on the 5.0 version only. The product overall is good and easy to use although it lacks some of the special case features found in others.
