Summary: HORRIBLE software, don't buy it!
Review: I've used Adaptec Easy CD Creator for 3 years, and loved it. Then I got a new CDRW w/ Nero bundled. HORRIBLE! I spent several days just trying to get it to work. I am quite computer savvy (have used PCs and Macs for 10 years). Talk about counter-intuitive, lack of information, useless "Help" section, bad, bad, bad user interface. These guys should buy a clue. I don't have 6 months to try to figure out how this software is supposed to work. Why don't they test it for user experience??? The bad experiences never stop with this piece of junk: you install it, it doesn't give you a choice as to where to install it to (which drive) - a big no no! I installed the NeroMedia - horrible! Didn't work - didn't play or open a single CD. So, I uninstall it using the uninstall from the Nero installation CD, only it does not uninstall completely, and now everytime I click on the CDRW, it keeps looking for NeroMedia. If you insert a blank CDR or CDRW, regardless of manufacturer, it freezes your computer so bad you have to unplug the power supply! So, I uncheck the autostart, which gets rid of the freezes, but now you have to manually start the "run" every time you install any software from the drive, which is a pain - I never had to uncheck the autostart to prevent my Adaptec CD burning software from freezing my computer with a blank medium! The InCD part of the Nero software does not work proprely either - it is supposed to alert you to when the CDRW disc has been formatted... does no such thing - so you have to wait up to 40 minutes, before checking manually, because if you do it sooner you might interrupt the possibly ongoing process, and have to start over again! Hopeless! The "Help" section is useless. Try to find a section that tells you such a basic thing as how to burn a DATA CDR - there is actually no entry for data CD burning - check it out. You have to go through the whole stupid interface and sort of blindly figure it out on your own through trial and error... which brings me to the user interface... User interface - OK, this has just got to be the single worst feature of this piece of junk software. Nothing makes sense, and none of the choices are obvious. The dialogue boxes are hopeless. Compare it to the clarity of the Adaptec software - as a complete novice, with the Adaptec you can go and burn CDs because the process is logical and intuitive, takes you from one part of the process to the next logically - with Nero, you'll spend your days trying to figure out the simplest things! A really horrible feature of this junkware, is the utter lack of choices and the hidden process by which it does things without giving you a say. It will not let you decide where you want to store an image - I happen to have my drive partitioned and since it stupidly installed itself on C without giving me a choice, I have a problem, in that my C is rather small and not sufficient in space to hold a full audio CD image. But I have plenty of space on D. Well, there is no way to tell Nero to go to a specific folder on D! Idiocy. And so on with all of the processes. With Adaptec, I can choose everything - I love it. Nero is a piece of junk. I will uninstall it and junk it as soon as possible, and going back to Adaptec. My only fear is that just as with the NeroMedia part of it, these guys will leave a mess on my computer instead of uninstalling completely. DO NOT BUY NERO - avoid it at all costs. It is a truly badly written piece of software, and you will be lucky if you can even uninstall it without it completely messing up your computer.

Summary: XP and HP cd-writer users - BEWARE!
Review: I had hoped this program would be my savior; however, it has nearly driven me mad. I thought Windows XP was bad. Nero Burning was more of a waste of money than XP. I consider myself PC savvy and I usually can work around PC/software/hardware issues but Nero has me totally confused. What happened?
1) I was unable to make a single CD-R or CD-RW with the software straight out of the box. So I go to Nero's website and downloaded upgrades.
2) I upgrade and using InCD 3.280 (not Nero) I successfully make a CD-RW. (I'm happy now and I setup to make another overnight).
3) Problems galore! Over the next day, I tried to format and burn 5 different (new) CD-RWs from 2 different manufacturers. I tried to format, re-format, erase, and then re-format with no success.
4) The InCD program said all my new CD-RWs had logic errors on them. But 5 from 2 different makers?
5) With the Nero Burning program, I experienced buffer underruns, Joliet naming problems, and more. I also tried an uninstall/reinstallation as well as just getting the "demo" version of the program. Still no success and more wasted hours.
6) Technical support @ Nero (Ahead Software) - a) it's NOT a toll-free to Calif., b) they aren't polite, c) expect to wait 20-40 minutes before reaching someone (remember it's your dime), d) they didn't help me.
7) The last thing tech support told me was that my CD-writer (HP CD-writer 8200 series) was "oh yeah, one of those we're having trouble with" and that "I'll have to wait 2 weeks" and maybe their engineers will have a fix in the next release. Well, I don't have 2 weeks. I needed a good CD-burning program with XP - Nero Buring 5.5 was NOT it. I wouldn't wish the stress and troubles on my worst enemy. Don't buy it.

Review: That's right, I've been looking for Cd Burning software for some time now, but finally,(as I knew I would) I found it. Nero was everything I had hoped it would be. After years of using Easy CD Creator, I ran into a major snag when upgrading to Windows XP, and was ticked-off, to put it mildly. After spending much money, time and effort buying new Roxio software, downloading patches that didn't work. Then, buying other assorted software that didn't deliver- I found Nero 5.5. Now the search is over. And the translation from German to English doesn't bother me either,because I Speak German! Imagine that! Thank-you Nero, GOD BLESS YOU........JPUCKFACE

Summary: CD Burning Software That Works With Windows XP
Review: If you buy Nero 5.5 and you have at least a good working knowledge of computers then you will not be disappointed. Not for the lazy as you will have to make decisions when using the software, but well worth the brain power. You can spend more money on Roxio, but you can't get better software than this for the experienced computer user.

Review: This program for me is without the best buy i have ever made...... Its is very user friendly.. Personally for me the best part is Nero Wave Editor..... Very easy too pick up, no need to even read a manual. What ever you need to copy on CD, from MP3, data etc. it gives you great results. Also CD COVER DESIGN is very usefull edition to this package.These designers have done a very good job. I recommend NERO to everyone. Its excellent buy for its value.

Summary: Great program if you never need support!
Review: This is a great program, well designed -- but hope you never have problems. I downloaded the demo for 5.5.7.2 and it worked great for me. I loved it -- so much so I bought it. And downloaded the latest version 5.5.8.0. Suddenly, the program claims my blank DVD-R disks aren't blank. It simply won't record on DVD-R (CD-R worked just fine). Ahead offers NO phone support, so you're left with their online troubleshooting guides. Good luck. Lots of info -- little solutions. Their online form for support threw script errors (it seems to be working now) and a week later, NO ONE has ever returned an email. IF YOU LIKE WORKING WITHOUT A NET THIS IS THE PROGRAM FOR YOU. IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A WARM FUZZY FEELING THAT THE PEOPLE WHO SOLD YOU THIS PROGRAM WILL BE THERE TO SUPPORT YOU, LOOK ELSEWHERE.

Summary: Pretty slick
Review: Having used Roxio and updated for XP, I can say that the demo Nero 5.5 downloaded and installed like butter. I did not read any instructions but tested the interface with intuition. The music CD copied flawlessly. I did not check out all the features and do the normal reading of the online manual. I just plunked in the source CD and a blank one and let the program go. Nero recognized my external burner USB and then started to burn. I set the speed to 8X, not finding 4x (later I did ). The time was quite long 50 mins, compared to Roxio's 20mins. I will test Nero again and hope it reduces the time. Otherwise I was totally pleased with how smooth everything went. Roxio is pissing me off lately and have wasted one too many coasters. I will buy Nero.

Summary: Recent versions have plagued me
Review: I have been a user of Nero since the early version-4 releases. It has always been a great burner and over the years has matured into what can only be described as the best burning package on the market. Since version 5.5.6.4, I have been having a lot of problems with Nero. Were it not for my drive's Burn-Proof technology (Plextor 24/10/40A)I would be burning coasters. Repeated emails to their tech support go unanswered. I suggest people run with the demo for its entire period before buying or wait until they resolve these issues.

Summary: BEST BURNING SOFTWARE I'VE USED
Review: I've spent my many years using Adaptec and Roxio easy CD creator software. I was very satisfied with them just because of their simplicity. When I tried Nero for the first time, I was very dissatisfied with it because at the time, I wasn't too familiar with the Nero terminology, but years later since i've become a technician, Nero 5.5 has become one of my best friends. The software is easier to use, I admire the ways you can customize your CDs and I love all the options it gives. I get less errors with Nero and it supports a more broader range of CD burners than Roxio does. Any experienced computer user should definately use Nero over Roxio.

Summary: What's the idea behind this software?
Review: Simply put, my idea of decent CD burning software is one which supplies you options for copying, organizing, and storing information on a compact disk, and interacts with your hardware to get the job done. It should also interefere with the computer and its operating system as little as possible. Nero's software did none of the above for me. The software provides "wizards" to aid the inexperienced software user through the burning process; it also allows you to bypass the wizards and manually control settings. Either way, the software behaves clumsily. The "wizards" are idiodic examples of cryptic pseudo-simplicity which performed poorly for me, while the manual settings are arcane and difficult to manipulate. The software does not come with a printed manual, but with an extremely awkwardly written electronic version (in fact, I think the manual might just be incorrect, as I followed its "Step by Step Instructions for Copying a CD" and found out the steps to be incomplete and to produce results inconsistent with those listed in the manual) which one must click back and forth onscreen between software and instructions. In addition, loading the software on my computer (which is equiped with Windows 98 SE) produced DLL errors which interfered with the computer's operations and were time consuming to fix. In sum, instead of accomplishing the business at hand, this software forced me to decipher its impossible instructions and to hunt down DLL files and tinker with my computer -- a colossal waste of time.
