Summary: grrrrrr!
Review: I bought this software for the ability to put photos taken with a digital camera onto discs for storing and sharing with friends and family. However, after many frustrating attempts I have been unable to create a photo-disc. The help feature was useless. The manuals, a waste of time. I would strongly suggest you consider any other product on the market if you want to make photo-cd's.

Summary: Not compatible with my new Samsung CD-RW/DVD?
Review: I am a software tech., and have been known to chase the "high tech" rainbow. Moral- If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Bottom line first!- I feel you should stay away from the "latest" NERO & Roxio 6 offerings until they get the bugs worked out, and you see no negative reviews! I suspect that the few good NERO/Roxio 6 reviews, were written by their employees or associates! This holds true on most "mixed" hardware/software reviews! An optimist believes the good reviews, and a realist- the worst! Amazon has the BEST review site!

My rant-
I have a newer DELL computer- winXP, SP-1, 2.2ghz, 40mb hd.
NERO 5.5.3 worked "pretty good" (sometimes "weird" errors, but excellent "advanced" options!), with my old CD-RW/DVD. DELL replaced my old defective Samsung SM-332 drive, with a newer Samsung SM-348b (NERO website said this was a supported drive? NOT!).
Per NERO 5 installation instructions-
I first did a COMPLETE software uninstall- used the NERO 5 Driver-clean tool"S", downloaded from- http://www.ahead.de/en/631938347293151.html ... Made sure there were no other CD folders/programs... Then did a NortonSystemWorks 2004 Pro cleanup (deleted 31 invalid nero registry entries).
Then did a clean re-install of the NERO 5.5.3 CD software, downloaded/installed the latest 5.5.10.54 XP patch, before using.
When I tried to burn (copy) a CD, it came back and said I must use the software that came bundled with my CD-RW/DVD. HUH?
I then did another complete NERO software uninstall, and then installed the Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6, supplied by DELL. DISASTER!
Crashed my XP system, and I had to reformat & reinstall winXP.
I finally successfully went back to my original OEM Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.2 basic, with the latest downloaded updates. This program works good for basic burning, but does not have the neat NERO 5.5 Bells and whistles!

Summary: Investigate before buying
Review: I purchased this software from Amazon.com but I did not notice, when I brought it that it was an OEM package. This software did not work with my CD-R drive. So, do not buy an OEM version of Nero 5 or 6, if you do not know if it will work with your drives. I had to use the demo version of Nero 6 Ultra Edition to burn my SVCD, meanwhile I have a OEM version of Nero 5.5 to sell, $8 plus shipping.

Summary: NO ISTRUCTIONS
Review: I ORDERED THE NERO SOFTWARE, BUT IT CAME ONLY IN A WHITE SLEEVE WITH NO INTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO USE IT.

Summary: Nothing else compares to Nero in my experience
Review: For people who enjoy customizing software and fine tuning results, this is much better than Roxio's basic offerings, although I haven't used their premier apps. Once you get the hang of the steps involved, Nero is very efficient.

One thing that initially bugged me was that "Joliet" wasn't checked by default for ISO burning. Without it, filenames are truncated back to the Stone Age, so watch out for that setting. I'd experiment with CD-RWs before you fully understand Nero anyhow.

I would caution that people who prefer their software dumbed-down (or are terminally afraid of computers) may find Nero frustrating, unless they stay forever in Wizard mode. It's one of those programs you really have to dive into to appreciate. The spotty Help menu assumes a lot goes with saying, but so far there's nothing I haven't been able to figure out.

Nero does a great job with VCDs, by the way. Before, I was playing around with "VCDEasy" (freeware) but this gives much better results with no guesswork. The biggest flaw in Nero is the CD jacket creator. I find it inflexible and time consuming so I use another Drawing app instead.

Summary: Garbage
Review: Beware: on Win XP it treats all users differently so that I have a colorful spectrum of problems/conflicts with each user profile. There is no support and the instructions are a waste of time. The format is NOT simple, it's stupid and utterly without any class or effort. There is no support and this program only leads you into ways to waste more money. The "quality" label maker fits perfectly in the trash - more money schemes there as they give you few labels and 'offer' you a website where you can perchase more. This program is in my opinion a scam.

Summary: not good
Review: I have been using nero for 2years and it decided to stop working when I use VCD. The Tech support is not good. The Problem i had was encoding video stop at 63%. I also decided to go with Roxio.

Summary: You need to be a programmer
Review: This is a complicated software program with an unusual user interface. It promises good features and probably has them, but you need to figure out how to get it all to work. Documentation seems like it has been translated through 3 different languages, by the IRS. Sorry, I can't recommend it.

Summary: VCD Format
Review: I'm from Malaysia and have just started using Nero 5.5 version. Totally satisfied with its outstanding quality performance. It's versatile, variable and fast. However, i'm not familiar with choice of burn formats to enable finished VCD to play on a household VCD player. Would be much obliged and grateful, if somebody could advise me on what configuration/format to burn in, in order for finished disc to be able to be played on normal household VCD players. I use Pinnacle Studio 7.0 version to convert to MPEG movie and my camcorder is a JVC Digital Mini DV.
Thanking you in advance. Have a nice day !

Summary: Easy to use
Review: Easy to figure out and use. We have it at work and use it to burn data CDs. It's so simple, I've never even used the manual. Sure beats the socks off the other s/w out there. I'm going to get a copy for home, as I don't like the burning s/w that came with my new computer.
