Rating: Summary: No problems here! Couldn't be happier with this product. Review: I have used this product for several months now, and it has worked beautifully. I'm using an HP computer (1.6 GHz processor with 512 MB RAM) with a Sony DRU-500A DVD burner. I am truly impressed with the ease of use and the LACK of problems. I can't imagine how such negative reviews could possibly exist, considering I've had 100% success --- and I've used this software enough over the past several months to know that my positive experiences are not a fluke; this product performs excellently and consistently. There is one explanation that I can think of for the negative performance that some people have experienced: Just because your hardware is performing perfectly doesn't necessarily mean you have an effective combination of computer + DVD burner. Not to say that the equipment is defective (although it could be). My point is that you can never be 100% sure that a DVD burner married with a certain PC will produce the results you're looking for. Even in a situation where you've bought a new PC that comes bundled with a new DVD burner; you wouldn't think it'd be possible (for example) for a Sony DVD player to have a problem on a Sony PC, but believe me, it's definitely possible. I would urge you to do the following before judging the software: Move the DVD burner to another PC and test the software. Or try a different DVD burner on the current PC and try another test. Based on what I have personally experienced, it's not likely that the problem is with the software. One other point: I am running version 1.3 of the software. I had absolutely no problem with it, so I didn't bother to upgrade when the developer sent notifications of newer versions. Why upgrade when everything was working perfectly? I can't speak for versions 1.4 or 1.5 since I haven't tried them. Maybe one could ask 321 Studios to allow a download of an earlier version as a last resort? DON'T BE FOOLED! This product is a keeper! I don't know anyone at 321 Studios, and I'm certainly not an employee or an investor --- just a satisfied customer!
Rating: Summary: Works good Review: Okay, I've read all this nonsense about how this doesn't work and so on, and supposedly how DVD X Copy employees are planting reviews and whatnot. I should point out that several reliable publications have also done favorable reviews of this. I'm using a Sony DRU-500AX burner with this software and having no problems whatsoever. I made backups -is that what we call them??- of a couple dozen movies and haven't had a problem yet. I gave it four stars because I'd like to see a compression option to squeeze larger movies on to one disc instead of two. I hate changing DVD's halfway through a movie, I could give up a little quality if I had to. As far as these folks whining about how this product doesn't work, you need to figure out what your doing and stop blaming the software. Why not go on the net and get some assistance to troubleshoot your problems - and check the "newbie guides", which is what you should be looking at if you're having trouble with this package. Also, for anyone considering burning DVDs to CD-R's, DO NOT buy DVD Copy Plus from this manufacturer. That just plain sucks. Get a burner or don't bother... Jason
Rating: Summary: Tech support is a black hole on your clock! Review: Software would not recognize blank disc in drive during phase 2 of the copying process. Had to call tech support at 6:00AM on a weekend to get someone on the phone and had to wait 30+ min before someone picked up. First time I called they had me disable all startup programs, but that did not work and they hung up with me before I could reboot to verify what they had me do actually worked. Called a 2nd time the following weekend and they had me select a different burn engine by first downloading a trial version of Nero 6 (apparently DVDXCOPY can use Neros burn engine, guess I should have bought Nero). In the meantime, each time I tried to burn a DVD but wasn't able to I had to start the copy process all over because the copy can't be save on your hard drive allowing the user to pick up where they left off when copying is disrupted. Once you abort step 2 of the copy process you loose access to the temporary file stored on your hard drive. Was eventually able to burn a disc with DVDXCOPY using the Nero engine but can't get it to play for more than 2 min before an error message comes up that the disc cannot be read. Haven't called tech support with this one, I've decided to throw the towel in instead. If you are set on buying DVD copy software I strongly suggest you consider another company's software.
