Summary: It works for me...
Review: I had the Easy CD Creator 5 previously installed on my old PC which had Windows 98 SE. The program worked fine. I recently purchased a new system which has XP. I got an error message after installing the software saying that I needed to upgrade.
I went to the Roxio site and downloaded the 5.3.2 patch. Since then the program has been working fine.

Before I set up my new PC, I had to transfer very important files that were on my old PC onto a CD-R disk. I used the Easy CD Creator 5 software to do this. When I tried to recover these files on my new PC, it couldn't detect the files using the burn software that was already on my new system. I was in quite a panic. So since I used Roxio's software to transfer my files onto the CD-R I figured if I install the software onto my new PC it will detect these undetectable files. I was right. Easy CD Creator 5 has a feature that helps you recover lost or corrupted files that were on the CD-R and restores them. So my thought to be lost files are safely on my new system :o).

I have always maintained that Roxio's Easy CD Creator 5 is one of or possible the easiest to used burning software on the market plus it has tons of extra features that other burn software brands don't have. It was a total lifesaver for me.
Despite the poor reviews, this software is well worth the purchase.

Summary: Buggy
Review: It all began when I migrated to Win 2000.

Attempting to add multiple files via the add button hangs the program. The worst occurs with packeting (Direct CD) operations. Writing multiple files crashes the OS beyond recovery (a remarkable accomplishment with Win 2000) and ruins the disk.

The 5.3.2 patch didn't help and the only more recent update is billed only as adding drive support.

Too bad -- ECDC has a lot going for it: nice intuitive interface, a label creator, with a collection of exceptionally artistic and original background themes, that generally seems well-behaved. However, this is really inexcusable as neither Win 2000 or ECDC are new products.

Summary: Poor product + poor customer service
Review: Having used Easy CD Creator in earlier versions when it was an Adaptec product, I was excited about the latest version. WHAT A MISTAKE! First, it won't install on either of two machines. Working with email tech support I found there were updates necessary to use some drives that are not all that new, but not supported by the shipped version of the product. After numerous attempts I gave up. Not like me, either. I'm an IT professional who builds his own machines and supports numerous products for my clients. So, I asked for a refund. I was given a toll free number to call. After being on hold for more than 30 minutes, the call disconnected. Not once, but TWICE. Emails back to Roxio produced nothing more than a form letter providing the same phone number, or an optional number that was not toll free. Needless to say, the product is worthless as far as I'm concerned. By the way, Nero 5.5 installed and worked PERFECTLY on both machines with no problems at all. I would strongly recommend that product over Roxio any day.

Review: I can't believe suckers still buy software from this company. I guess PT Barnum was right.

When I purchased my first CD burner about 5 years ago, it came with Easy CD Creator 3, which Adaptec had purchased at some point from another company. It was buggy, and the jewel case insert designer wasn't the greatest, but it got the job done. I produced a lot of custom music compellation CDs - greatest hits packages and so forth - including a lot of rarities ripped from vinyl, VHS Hi-Fi and laserdisc.

After about three years, my old CD burner eventually started to flake out, and I decided it was time to purchase a replacement. I wasn't delighted with Easy CD Creator, but I also wanted to revise some of those old compilation CDs I had made, replacing some of the vinyl tracks with copies from CDs I had since acquired and also burning 80 minute versions that would allow me to include a few extra selections per disc. I came across an inexpensive Yamaha drive that included Easy CD Creator 4, and decided that even though I didn't love the software, it would make it much easier to produce revised versions of my compellations.

Wrong. Easy CD Creator 4 won't load Easy CD Creator 3 layout files. Worse, you can't get both programs to run on the same computer at the same time. So now, all of my Easy CD Creator 3 layouts and jewel case designs were lost to me - gone. Adaptec had since spun off their software into a separate firm, Roxio, which tried to excuse this glaring fault by saying that they didn't have the original code used to produce Easy CD Creator 3 - Adaptec had purchased the program from another company, remember - and so they had no way of understanding the file format.

Disappointed and more than a little upset, I shelved my plans to revise my old compilations, and instead produced a bunch of new ones. Or at least, I tried to. Easy CD Creator 4 wasn't as buggy as 3, but it was far from bug free. About a year later, I put together a new PC running Windows XP, and noted that Easy CD Creator 4 is said to have difficulties working under Win XP. I considered purchasing a copy of Easy CD Creator 5, until I discovered that IT CAN'T LOAD EASY CD CREATOR 4 LAYOUT FILES! That's right, folks - Roxio just repeated the "reward" for customer loyalty they bestowed upon Easy CD Creator 3 users who were stupid enough (like me) to upgrade to Easy CD Creator 4. This time, they don't even have the excuse that they purchased their source code from another developer - they just couldn't be bothered with supporting their installed userbase. Unbelievable!

I will never even consider purchasing another product from Roxio. If you purchase this product, you are virtually guaranteed substandard support and a torturous upgrade path in the future. Based on my experience, and those offered by other consumers here at Amazon.com (and elsewhere on the web), Roxio seems to practically go out of their way to make their users' lives difficult. Any company that displays this kind of vile contempt for its customers deserves to go under. Don't say you haven't been warned.

Summary: Absolute Disaster - My Last Attempt With Roxio
Review: The only application which has given my trouble since upgrading to XP is Easy CD Creator. After going through the hoops to uninstall version 4, buying Version 5 Platinum, installing it, downloaded patches, etc. .... the thing still does not work. My previously stable 900 MHZ system suddenly restarts when doing unrelated work. I've uninstalled the **** thing and now have a working computer again. Roxio ships junk and wastes countless lifetimes worth of it's customer's time. Do not buy this junk unless you are prepared for headaches. I've been successfully using PCs since the very first IBM PC and this is without a doubt the worst piece of software I've ever bought.

Review: Lousey support. Uninstall/install problems. You can't seem to get the thing fully uninstalled and then the install turns around and hangs with "a previous installation" error. Yeah. That's good software. Right from the start you've got problems. Pure c&*p.

Summary: Easy CD Creator Basic is a disaster
Review: By all means get the Platinum version because the Basic gives errors on startup, won't even read the drives on my Dell 330 system (even after installing the latest updates). Of course, you'll have to WAIT for an actual boxed shipment, since Roxio doesn't seem to care about buyer convenience, and doesn't provide downloads (for such a simple minded product, that's a shame).

Review: I'm getting these short repeats with Nero-5 as well. The problem is more fundamental than the software.

Summary: DON'T BUY THIS IF YOU HAVE XP!!
Review: I had Roxio on my 98SE machine and recently bought a notebook with XP, so I bought the Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum for my notebook. Even though the box said it was compatible with XP, when I installed it and attempted to reboot, I couldn't get my machine to reboot. I ultimately had to reinstall my OS, fortunately, I was able to get a full refund for Roxio, but I have decided to stick with the CD writer that is built into XP instead.
