Summary: Don't know what all the fuss is about on XP
Review: My experience is this, I bought an Iomega external firewire CD/RW that came with 'Hot Burn' Software. This software would not see the drive no matter what I tried, but my pinnacle studio software did. After giving up on Iomega support, I went and bought Easy CD 5 platinum. After the initial install it did not see the drive either, so I applied a patch to recognize more drives and bingo, everything works. Iomega is still contacting me to try and get me to uninstall all my cd/rw software to make the Hot burn stuff work. I am running Windows XP.

Summary: What a Waste of my Money? Most features are a HYPE
Review: Easy Cd Creator 5.0 Platinum is not all that what the company advertises and say about it's features. For example, to create a VCD(Video Cd) You have to convert any movies you have to MPEG format to be able to make a VCD that you can view on your DVD player! But Nero Burning Rom made it easy to create a VCD... it automatically converts any AVI and other formats then burns it. One more thing the Slide Show feature is worthless, I downloadeda free trial program called Photo 2 VCD Professional, which has many features, but in the trial version you're limited. But, when I saw those two features in Easy CD Creator, I decided to buy it for these and the rest of the features.. what a mistake... If you really wanna buy a good burning software I suggest Ahead Nero Burning Rom, and for other features probably you're better off to buy separate programs

Summary: No support...
Review: Easy CD Creator 5 wasn't make to operate with XP. Upon installation you have to down load updates which don't work very well. Their support never answers the phone and its been a week sense I emailed them and I am still waiting for their email responce.

Review: Don't fall for any rebate offers Roxio advertises.
It's a farce.

Summary: Smooth burning so far
Review: Despite the many negative reviews about Easy CD Creator 5, I haven't had any problems with it. In fact, I have created over 30 CD's (CD-R and CD-RW) and all without any glitches. Just for the record, I'm running Windows XP Pro on a 2.54 GHz Pentium 4 with 1GB RAM. I installed the latest patch right after installing ECDC, and it has been holding up great since. I'm wondering if some of the problems described in the reviews are caused by incompatible CD burners or low quality media. I would stick with name brand CD's (Imation, Memorex, Sony, just to name a few) and check Roxio's website to verify drive compatibility before buying this product.

Summary: Don't buy this if you have windows XP!
Review: It doesn't work on XP, even though it clearly states that it does on the box. What a joke!! It won't install because it thinks there's another version there, but there isn't so there's nothing to uninstall. Who makes software that can't uninstall itself? Who makes software that can't upgrade itself? Roxio took a decent program and trashed it. If you don't believe me, go to support.roxio.com. Enter the message board for this product and do a search under "installation". You will see thousands of hits with the same problem.

Summary: Came with bugs, updates added more bugs.
Review: I purchased Easy CD Creator in February of 2002. I was hoping to use ECDC to backup software development source files from my hard drive onto CD. Unfortunately, it has a bug which changes the time stamp on some files to GMT rather than your own time zone. As a work-around, I was using DirectCD (comes as part of ECDC Platinum) but now, with the latest update (10/24/02), it loses the original file's time/date stamp altogether and replaces it with the current time/date.

Roxio has been aware of the GMT bug since Jan/02 (someone else reported it before I did), but in the 2 updates released this year, it was not fixed.

I don't understand how software can be shipped with such blatant bugs in it - it appears as if they only have software developers - no testers (unless you include the general public), and certainly no one to respond to customer complaints and to take corrective action.

Summary: Unsatisfactory
Review: The one thing this product has going for it is an easy to use interface. But that can't make up for all of its shortcomings - to wit:

Installation is buggy and difficult. In order to get this to run on Windows XP, I had to download a patch from Roxio. No problem.... but - once I downloaded the patch, it would run through the install process, then after reboot, it would want to run it again, and again, and again. Cancelling it out of the install and attempting to load the software was a failure. Roxio Tech Support was non-respondent. I tried every means on their site, including email and the toll-free support number. I then found that the Better Business Bureau has several complaints about this company's lack of support.

Finally, from Dell, I downloaded a document that described how to get the software to work on XP. It involves going into your registry and manually altering entries!

When you finally do get this beast onto your system, it appears to work fine for a while. However, I started to note that some of the music CD's I burned had 'skips' that weren't present on the original.

I won't EVER buy another product from this company.

Summary: Lemon of the Year Award for ECDC v5
Review: I used ECDC v3 and v4 for the past 2 years as it came bundled with my Iomega Zip650 CD-R. I was pretty pleased with the straightforward music burning interface and DirectCD features.
After upgrading my o/s to Win XP, I installed ECDC v5 and the latest patch from the Roxio site. In short, it is a piece of garbage. Wouldn't even test my CD-R for recording capabilities. Refused to write anything to it, period. And to make matters worse, it wouldn't recognize any of my v4 cd layout (.cl4) files. This is the same story when I upgraded from v3 to v4!
Roxio is incompetent and completely out of touch with it's customers. Go with the Nero Burning software instead. Thank me later.

Summary: Former good product.
Review: Have used this product for several years. Current Rev and Customer Support has gone down hill fast. The currently corrupt product, combined with non-existent Customer Support is bad enough but the product is also corrupting many Computers, especially Windows XP. Not only do I recommend that you not buy the product, dont even try it out as it will possibly wreck your Windows Operating System. If you want to know more, check out "Roxio's Discussion Groups" on the web (now known as "Roxio's Disgusted Groups"). Its too bad - it used to be a good product and I had recommended it in the past. I and others have lost all trust and respect in Roxio. Fortunately there are other good competitive products available.
