Summary: Best CD Creating Software Availble
Review: This is the easiest CD software out there hands down. I have tried many others and was frustraded with all of them. They were all to complicated and hard to follow. I originally had Easy CD Creator 4.0. I was able to update it very easily threw their web site. I recently bought a new player and upgraded my software to the 5.0 version which is less cutsie than the older version and works great. I has all the functions you could want in this type of software. After reading some of the other reviews in this section I decided I needed to come back and edit my review. So here goes.
I bought one of the first burners available over two years ago and had nothing but problems with software (OE or otherwise) until I ran across Easy CD Creator. I worked perfect and still does with my new Burner as well. You may wonder why I replaced my burner so I will tell You. I WORE IT OUT!!! When it finally died I it acted sort of like what some of the other reviewers have described as a software problem. However when I bought my new burner I just plugged it in will my old software still loaded and it worked PERFECT!!! I would also like to add that Following some of these hints will help with any burner with any software. (1) Connect your burner as Master On the opposite cable as your Hard drive or your other CD Rom. (2) Defrag your hard drive often. (3) don't bother spending a lot of money on Blank cd's cheap ones work just fine.

Summary: VCD creator is easy to use
Review: I installed it in my machine running WIN2K successfully without installing TakeTwo application. I tried to make several VCDs and had no problem.I also tested CD copier, and photo album application,and got what I needed. I did not try the applications related to music.
I tried NTI CdMaker pro 5.0 that can also make VCD, but it failed to run in my machine.
I think this software is not that bad. If you follow the instruction on Roxio web site and have a compitable CD-R drive, you may have no problems to install it.

Summary: Caution needed in preparation for install
Review: Just a few things to remember before installing this product. In no particular other:
1. remove other versions of cd-writer software.
2. disable the virus scanner before installation.
3. buy REV B. of the software. (see bottom of box).
4. read article 010426-000000 & 000929-000005 on the roxio website.
5. backup your registry and make a startup disk.
The installation didn't go smoothly at all for me as I have previous versions of HP packaged software installed. After initial installation, it crashed at startup. When I finally got it working, the included software was a great improvement over the HP mycd. Using Soundstream, I was able to listen to each chosen mp3 files as I was arranging the playlist. It also give the option to finalize the cd or not. The video and photo software was fairly easy to use. Using the photo software I was able to generate an autorun slideshow of my kids with a background music.
If it wasn't for the lousy installshield, I might have rated it higher. Good luck.

Summary: Don't Get Burned and Ripped -- OOPS, Not True!
Review: Adaptec Easy CD Creator earlier versions came with many CD burners from H-P, Teac, and others. I got an Addonics CardBus burner based on a Teac drive. I submitted a one-star review awhile back because I had all kinds of problems getting Easy CD Creator 5 to work with the two machines above. I finally tried to give it another go, uninstalled the earlier version, and installed. To be fair, I need to revise my comments drastically. I don't know why I had so many problems before, but they seem to have been worked out. I have found that it works fine, even with the Addonics burner (Addonics said it would not work, but Roxio lists the Teac machine that is the actual CD-RW as supported). Version 5 seems to work better than four. The interface is slicker and a little harder to work with than the Version 4 for doing audio CDs and creating play lists, but I am satified.

Summary: Great on W2K
Review: Unlike another reviewer, this software runs beautifully on my W2K machine. Easy to use menu, and some built in features that cost more than this product when purchased separately (e.g., Music CD to MP3 ripper). Very highly recommended.

Summary: Works OK, if a little clunky
Review: I bought mine mostly to convert LP's into WAVs, and it works pretty well on my Windows ME machine. Only real complaints are the usual: Controls are far from intuitive, and the manual covers lots of topics in great detail which I'll never use, while skipping lightly over the stuff I could use more info on. Like how do you set the Track Splitter for optimum results. But, makes nice clean dubs, and it's fun to play with all the sliders.
And I haven't made any coasters yet.

Review: The software routinely seizes and wastes a disc. Infact it is so prone to failure I no longer even have it in use. There are better , less expensive programs. The only feature worth noting is volume normalization , but what good is it the program won't allow you to use it effectively a majority of time. By the way, I'm no computer wiz and I need simple functioning programs that work - this isn't one on them. Sorry I ever bought it.

Summary: Not really that bad as a burning software for audio CDs
Review: I would like to say that this CD-burning software is one that makes you feel good after using it. Honestly, I know I have only used this for audio CDs, which is the sole purpose of my upgrade to this new version of ECDC. I am fully alert of the problems that could plague my system all because of the reviews here, but my audio burning function has been highly reliable all this while, without spewing out any bad disc under my (relatively strictly controlled) settings and environment. I generally have no say as to whether or not this is an improvement over the previous version, but I would like to say that they work equally well for me. And the interface on this new version is also not too bad at all, where its sleekness and convenient functions are all a mouse-click away, only enhancing the pleasure I get when using the software.
I would love to give this product a five for what it has done to me, but I can only give it four stars not because it has done anything bad to me, but rather because I haven't explored its other functions (among which is Take Two, which can cause rather nasty problems that have been raised on this review board.) And, in any case, I feel as if these parts will not be necessary for me when I use this programme - solely for (mostly beautifully formatted) audio CDs that are all due to give me pleasure forever everytime I play them.

Summary: WORTH EVERY DIME!
Review: First, after reading the all the negative reviews here about this product, one could easily come to the conclusion that installing Easy CD Creator 5 is electronic suicide. Realistically however, most people who buy a product EXPECT it to work properly, and when it does, they don't write praising reviews about it. They go happily about their lives with their newly purchased stereo, car or whatever (did you write the manufacturer after you bought your computer?). But when something doesn't work as it should, that's when the critiques start flying. Because of this, you're not hearing from the silent majority who haven't had problems with it. I'm sure there are FAR more satisfied than dissatisfied users of this product than these reviews suggest. Currently, this product ranks 9 in sales at Amazon which makes it one of their best sellers, yet only 50 or so people have written bad reviews. Anyway... I upgraded from version 4 to 5 Platinum when I bought my new burner (HP), and this is one of the BEST products I have used to date. It is super fast and has audio enhancement features I love - especially the Normalization. When you burn a music CD, normalization will record all of your music files at the same sound level so you don't have one song loud, another soft, etc. Before this, I was using a freeware product to normailze my music files. Creator 5 also has good sound editor. Granted, this is far from being a professional mixer, but Easy CD Creator 5 coupled with MusicMatch and WinAmp suit all of my music needs. I haven't used the "Take Two" features, but that's not what I bought it for. When I back up my data, I do a straight data burn to CD. Then, if I have to reformat my HD, I just reinstall all of my applications, pop in my data CD, and put it all back on the drive. Definitely not rocket science. For pete sakes, CD-R discs are so cheap you could back up every couple of weeks for pennies. If you change your data frequently, back up to a CD-RW using DirectCD, another great feature. Bottom line: This is a great product. It hasn't crashed my system (WIN 98 SE), no Blue Screens Of Death, no failures, no reinstalls, and no calls to Tech Support. Only high quality data and music CDs. The only coasters you will burn will be of the 1950s music group.

Summary: Comfortable Easy CD Creator
Review: Despite the negative reviews posted on this site. I would like to say that I have been marginally more successful with this CD burner than most people. I bought this as a perfect, glove-fitting upgrade from Version 4, but I find this new version something like an improvement over the previous version in allowing me to be more flexible with what I do with my CD burner and software, besides giving me a more comfortable working environment. The only cavet I have about this is its slowness in recognising a CD when I insert it, not because of CDDB, but because of a possible bug in the programme and my CD drive. It only occurs during the recording of a CD. But this is not enough to lower my rating, considering that I only want to use this for audio CD burning, which hasn't yet caused any problems with my system the way in which Take Two has been doing so with some other users. The reason why I only give this product four stars is because I haven't explored the other components. This is because I may not need them as yet, and because I am suspicious about possible bugs that can never be corected unless Roxio issues a perfect upgrade. The more serious bugs, as this review page has said before, affect Windows 2000 users with this version of Take Two installed, but I feel it is wiser to stay away from Take Two and only use the audio CD functions.
