Summary: Run run run fast you can!!!
Review: This release of Easy CD Creator has to be the worst piece of garbage ever submitted to the public. The previous version Easy CD Creator 4 had some issues, but at least it worked. I can see how some people could get sucked into buying this, myself included. I have tried to run this program on the various Windows OS's including Win 98, Win ME, and most recently on XP. The latter experience was a total disaster!! If your idea of fun is sitting on hold waiting to get an answer from tech support go ahead and buy this. I never did get it to work right even after downloading all the patches that Roxio claims will fix the compatibility issues. As a person who has bought his share of merchandise through Amazon, I believe they have a responsibility to pull this product from their line. Once you've opened software you can't return it, that's the bottom line and one I do agree with since it's too easy to make a copy of it. I more than know my way around a computer and have had to solve other software incompatibilities, but nothing on the scale of this. To keep it short and sweet, if it takes more time and effort to get the program running than you do using it, then it's a bad deal. Save yourself some time and money and download the latest version of Nero Burning Rom, ... At least it works.

Summary: The Worst Experiance!
Review: Hoping to upgrade my Easy CD Creator Basic that came with my new Gateway, I purchase the Platinum version. My Gateway is running XP Home, with 512K mem, an 80 gig HD, a CD-DVD and a 40x CD Burner. During the installation it said that I had to remove the old version first, which I did by aborting the install, and removing the Basic version. After installing the Platinum version, I started to get Blue Screens of Death. I rolled the system back to an earlier time and recovered. Another attempt gave me the same results, even after following the directions on Roxio's site about having to run patches for XP. Finally, on a last attempt, things got really messed up, and this time I couldn't roll the system back. Long story short, everything became so hosed(even with talking to Gateway) I had to reload my entire operating system. And that was another adventure. ...

Summary: Poor Performer
Review: I bought this as an upgrade to the basic software that was on my new Dell computer, and, I wanted transitional effects between tracks (crossfades, fade up, etc)....something the basic package wouldn't do (of course). I really wished I had paid attention to the "thumbs down" ratings on CNET.com, because, boy were they right! Even after going to painstaking effort to assign transitions between tracks, these transitions don't neccessarily happen during recording. Further more, when you save the project (to hard drive), you would think it would save the transition preferences right? WRONG! You have to go back and reinstall the transitions. I haven't had this software for very long (running on XP), but I'm already frustrated enough to remove it from my confuser and try other software from another manufacturer. Make sure you read the "opinions" on this product on CNET....and take heed!!!!

Summary: waste of money
Review: when you read the box ,you think that you can install it and go ,but if you are a xp home user then you have to go to the net and down load extra drivers that dont come in the box, and if you have a media card reader that is a usb connection, that will not work in the photorelay section.and then when you hook up that old digital camera it also will not work . you have to save it the old way on your hard drive its not a plug and play device, its not worth the money, if there was a way to get my money back i would

Summary: Creator 5.0 on WinME
Review: After reading all of the reviews, and visiting Roxio's website, I was hesitant to install this. I removed vers4, and it works fine. Spin Doctor did a great job on cleaning up my records before dumping them to CD.

I used to be a DJ about 20 years ago, and I have a lot of records that have been played many times; quite a few have scratches. The more I use Creator 5.0 the more I love it! The Sound Editor is great and I've used it to further clean my WAV files before burning.

Summary: Works WONDERFUL!
Review: I bought this program so I could copy my old record albums and 45's to CDs. It works great! I like being able to "clean up" the songs that crackle and pop. I had NO problems installing this program and no real problems using it. I am not the brightest crayon in the box when it comes to using computers...so I did have to read the instruction book to use different features. The instructions are verrrrrry easy to understand. Any computer lingo that I wasn't familar with was explained clearly..."coaster" being one of my personal favorites. :) Speaking of coasters....I haven't made any of those! Anyway....once I finish copying my albums (vinyl, LPs) and 45's, I can't wait to check out alllllll the other features this program offers! At a glance, it seems to offer many.

Summary: Major Disappointment
Review: Even though I did not have any of the problems other reviewers have had installing this product, Easy CD Creator 5 fails to deliver in some important areas. Some of my frustrations:

Crossfading between tracks is a big deal to me. The print manual and online documentation says you can overlap tracks with no fade out of the first track or fade in of the second track. However, when actually opening the option box to set a crossfade the "no fade" option is not there. You are forced to fade one track or the other or both. When you choose to fade out the first track and fade in the second you can set the overlap for as much overlap as you want. However, when only fading out the first track or fading in the second track you are limited to only 4 seconds of overlap. When you factor in the few seconds of built-in silence at the end of most CD tracks, the crossfade effect is essentially lost. Another feature that was very important to me was the ability to "normalize" tracks compiled from various CDs so the volume level is consistent. Inexplicably this feature is offered in the more basic "SoundStream" part of the Easy CD Creator suite, but not in the "advanced" MusicCD Project part. As a result you cannot normalize tracks and perform crossfading, or other advanced editing work, from the same application. (At least not easily. Maybe there's a workaround, but why should it be so difficult?) If you manage to customize transitions between tracks to your liking, you cannot save your work and come back to it later without losing all of your transition settings. I gave the product two stars because I did have good success burning music discs when keeping things very simple and not trying to get to fancy, so it's not completely useless. However, the free software that came with the CD-RW drive worked just as well as this product when doing a simple burn. I'm very disappointed that Roxio is advertising features for this product that either are not there or do not work properly. Especially for the price they are charging. I will be looking for new software that can deliver on what it promises, and this time I'll be more careful to check out the reviews before putting my money down.

Summary: A Great Program !
Review: I can't disagree more with some of the previous reviews I've read here. This program is a life-saver for people who are unfamiliar with burning CD's or for those who seek an easy to use, clutter-free means of doing so. Whether you wish to compose CD's of your favourite music, back up your files or create copies of your most critical application or other CD's, this is the program for you. I tried numerous programs before discovering Easy CD Creater and believe me, it works great. It does have a few drawbacks but they are not intolerable. For example, it requires some knowledge of how to navigate directories. If you are familiar with Windows Explorer, the Windows file management system, you will have no trouble at all with this program. If you are not, you will still be able to use it with just a little more (but not painful) effort. I have not experienced the installation issues as have other reviewers but I can assure you that once you get past those issues, if you encounter them at all, you will not be displeased with this incredible tool. The Editorial review is fair and objective but if after reading their's and mine you are still uncertain about the product, throw caution to the wind and try it. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. This is the very first review I've ever written about anything and I take great care in recommending things to people. I would not recommend anything I had reservations about and I certainly have no financial or other interest in or connection with this company or its products. Good luck to you.

Summary: Stay away if you have Windows XP
Review: I upgraded to Platinum without reading the reviews of actual users. Last time I make that mistake. After spending two hours attempting to install/ reinstall and downloading the useless fixes from Roxie, getting no help from there Techs - in order to be able to use my PC in any fashion, I had to completely uninstall Roxie and the Basic verison that came with my PC. Even with Roxie completely off, my PC Still takes along time to Boot - Roxie really made a mess of things.

Platinum created such a mess - I am looking for a new product and refuse to reload the basic.

In Short - if you have XP - RUN FOR THE HILLS - It will not work.

Summary: Easy CD Creator 5 Makes CD Creation A Little Easier...
Review: CD burning is becoming a way of life, much the same way that audio CDs did. In order to make the best use of your CD-RW drive, however, you must have good software that will transfer your files or music onto the CD. Easy CD Creator 5 will do that and much more. Using this software, you will be able to easily create music and data CDs, record music from non-digital sources (tapes, records, and even the radio), create labels, and backup your computer. DirectCD will even allow you to use your CD-RW drive much the same way as you would a floppy. Just drag your files over, or save them from within your favorite application. This software is compatible with Windows XP (although you will need to download a patch, which is simple to install). If you will just be using your CD-RW drive for basic functions, then the software that came with your drive should work fine. If you want to make the most use out of that drive, buy Easy CD Creator 5!

USERS OF EASY CD CREATOR 4 DELUXE:
If you are not running Windows XP (or plan to run), save your money. This version is very similar to 4.0 Deluxe, and you will notice very few improvements over your version!
