Summary: Worst episode ever...
Review: I give this product 1 star, only because I am unable to give it zero stars.

If you are he11 bent on buying this software, please visit the support forum for ECDC5 first. You may save yourself a trip there later.

Roxio has a tradition of blaming everyone ELSE when their software is exposed as incompatible. According to Roxio: Norton, Intel, and Microsoft are ALL to blame for ECDC's problems.

For example, Roxio says that service pack 2 changes Windows 2000 so much, that it is a different operating system.

This is from Intel's website:
>After extensive investigation with Roxio of the 'Inaccessible Boot
>Device' error message, we have found that the Intel Ultra ATA Storage
>Driver is not the root cause of these incompatibilities.

There is also a warning on Microsoft's website about the problems caused by ECDC, but I will leave it to you to muck about through that mess Microsoft calls a website.

A little research might save you... a lot of grief.

Review: I've briefly looked at most of the reviews here and they are highly polarised, there is no middle ground. I did this before I installed Easy CD Creator Basic edition on my Windows XP Home computer. In fact the ferocity of some of the negative criticisms made me delay the installation; meanwhile I used the CD burning software that comes bundled with XP (also written by Roxio I understand) and conducted a thorough research into the risks of installation.

Eventually I installed the software together with the patch downloaded from the Roxio web site. Everything went exactly as described and the software installed cleanly and has worked properly ever since. I have detected no adverse effects with my PC. Unlike the advice from one of the contributers here I did reboot between loading the software and the patch and had no trouble.

So, my conclusion is that the original release did not work with XP and Roxio should be chastised for this. Judging by some of the reviews here they really must be smarting. However the patch seems to have cured all but this is not a solution for the layman. It is probably true to say that there is as yet no 'out of the box' software that works with XP.

Well, was it worth it? Yes. Easy CD Creator is a good package that lives up to the 'Easy' in its name. I have burnt both data and music CDs with no hangs, buffer under runs or any of the other problems. I shall be upgrading to the Platinum edition shortly.

Can I recommend it? Yes to someone who knows how to identify, download and install the patch they need. I imagine most people who burn CDs are in this category. Otherwise I would suggest the layman gives it a miss until the updated release hits the shelves. If there had been no need to patch the software I would have awarded five stars for an excellent price-performance package. As it is Roxio lose a star because of the patch.

Summary: Stay Away at all Cost
Review: Installed this software on my PC last week (Dell running Windows ME). Very soon, my DVD-ROM started to act funny. Lots of read error. Then I was unable to digitally extract music CD to record in MP3 using Music Match. Then I noticed I can no longer play DVD movies. After much aggravation, I restored my system back a week and now everything seems to be working, I hope.

Summary: No doubt it's the WORST
Review: I've been using this software for 1 year and its rate of
successful burning has been only 80%. It causes deadlock all of
the time. Yestoday after I uninstalled it, my win2000 no
longer can boot up. Seems some system files were damaged.
D-a-m-n.

Only after I had a try on Nero5.5 today did I realize that
how bad EZ Creator is. I'll never touch roxio products again.

Summary: Still waiting for "Out-of-the-box" capability for Windows XP
Review: When a person pays more than [$] for any software that says it is Windows XP capable, then it really should work without having to go to the internet and getting an upgrade. As long as Windows XP has been around, ...should have been able to produce there wares to work with it. Based upon personal experience, be advised to wait until [they] develops a version of Easy-CD-Creator for Windows XP

Summary: Worst Software I've Ever Used
Review: what a mistake...I've since returned the software to Amazon. I have Windows 98, and I still had problems. It causes the computer to crash; after 8 times, I said "no mas."...I will never buy a piece of software produced by this company plus I look forward to the day it goes out of business. Roxio doesn't deserve to exist with products like Easy CD Creator.

Summary: Even after 51D update-Can play track-but does NOT record
Review: My latest Unanswered E-mail to Roxio Tech Support:

Two weeks ago I sent THREE e-mails concerning my problem - NONE were answered.
I've been using Windows XP and had no problems with my LG-CD-RW CED-8120b drive.
However, I wanted a more full featured CD Creator.

NOTE: I have Gateway Pentium IV - 1.4 GHz computer with 768 MB of RAM
use Windows XP - home edition 2002

I bought and installed Easy CD Creator 5-Platinum. The drive wasn't recognized, so since then I have:
1. I READ ALL the applicable info in your "knowledgebase"
2. Read all applicable info in your "discussion group"
- MANY people are having this same problem
3. Uninstalled v5-Platinum - READ & FOLLOWED ALL INSTRUCTIONS
4. Checked for a complete uninstall as per you manual
uninstall knowledge base article
5. Uninstalled ALL other CD software - as per very time
consuming INSTRUCTIONS
6. Reinstalled ver 5.0 - still didn't work
7. Updated to 5.1, rebooted - still didn't work
8. Updated to 5.1B, rebooted - still didn't work
9. YESTERDAY-Updated to your NEW 5.1D - still didn't work

The LG-CD-RW CED-8120b drive IS listed as being supported by EASY CD Creator-5-platinium!

The drive IS recognized:
1. I CAN COPY FROM a CD-RW disk - using explorer
2. I CAN WRITE TO the CD-RW disk - using explorer
3. I can NOT delete and can NOT move files - using explorer
since the files are marked READ-ONLY - & I can NOT
change the attribute
4. I can NOT "MAKE" a CD using Sound Stream or MusicCD Project
5. I actually CAN PLAY a CD music track USING your SOUND
STREAM or in MUSIC CD Project!
1. Plays in the DVD CD-ROM drive Pioneer DVD-115
2. PLAYS in the LG-CD-RW CED-8120b drive

BOTTOM LINE: The Easy CD Creator CAN NOT do what it is designed to do->"MAKE" a CD in your applications:
Sound Stream or
MusicCD Project or
DATA CD-Project.

Summary: Very user friendly, until you try to use the CD you created.
Review: For a long time I was an enormous fan of Adaptec and their Easy CD Creator program. The name truly says it all; "EASY!" This program is so user-friendly, never crashed on me and never burned me a frisbee. When I purchased my first CD burner it came with version 4.0 (I think that was the version number). Some time ago I purchased the Platinum edition at full price because I enjoyed the earlier version that came with my burner. I installed Platinum and was in heaven! This thing is loaded.

Now I know that most of you reading this haven't gotten past my initial remark that, "for a long time I WAS and enormous fan..." If you're wondering how a program that seems to be so user friendly, so loaded with options, so stable and so well designed could lose the admiration of a long time fan, I'll tell you.

A few months back I purchased a new TDK CD burner. The burner came with Nero 5.0 burning software. I had heard of Nero but was completely unfamiliar with it. I installed it and hated it. It was not half as user-friendly as Easy CD Creator and that part frustrated me. I read that Nero was also loaded with cool features but the problem was, I couldn't figure out how to work them. The help screens in the program were lame and it came with no manual. Frustrated I returned to my Easy CD Creator program and installed it again. Something terrible then happened; neither programs would work right. Things started to crash. I browsed the Net to find answers and discovered that Nero and Adaptec absolutely cannot co-exist on the same machine. This fueled my hatred for Nero even more. Eventually I had to completely re-format my hard drive and start over. This time I installed Adaptec exclusively. But then I discovered something else. My new burner was NOT supported by Adaptec and so nothing worked quite right. I re-formatted again and installed Nero. I was hacked (in the "mad" sort of way, not that I was actually hacked, physically or electronically - ok, just a brief point of clarification there for our viewers)! But if I was ever going to be able to burn CD's with my new burner I knew that I would have to learn Nero.

To make a long story short, I discovered the joy of Nero! It is a fantastic program and, in my opinion, it's much better than Adaptec software any day! The only gripe I have is that it is not as user friendly, however the options and features are fantastic! You just have to commit some time (and a few frisbees) to figure out what the heck you're doing.

But there's more to the reason why I so dislike Adaptec now. Over time I have discovered that a lot of the CD's created with Adaptec do not operate well on all other computers or audio devices. In fact, some CD's I'd made with Adaptec caused Windows to crash when I tried to access them on other computers. Since I started with Nero, and put the effort into learning how to use it properly, it is so much better! I have yet to see a machine that rejected a disk I made with Nero, but Adaptec flopped often. I think the reason why I didn't notice the problems with Adaptec for so long is because I was predominantly playing and accessing disks made with Easy CD Creator on machines that also had Adaptec.

Adaptec software has a lot of fantastic features and they are easy to use and the program comes with a great manual! I will say that the VCD maker works nicely and burning a regular audio CD works well. If this is predominately your usage intentions then you will be happy with the program. However, when it comes to making things like MP3 CD's or even just data CD's you may be in for some headaches. Not necessarily if your burning them and using them on the same system, but if you try to use the disk on another computer without Adaptec software, or sometimes even with it, you might discover what I'm talking about.

Anyway, all of that to say that there are positives and negatives about this program. Perhaps your experience will be different. I just know that I really dig Nero now! Granted, it was a bit of a headache to learn how to use (and some features I am still learning how to use), but it is very stable and makes perfect copies of anything. You will just have to determine what's more important to you; ease of use or actually being able to use what you created. For me the latter won the coin toss! Good luck!

Summary: Easy CD Creator 5.0 Platinum
Review: I was somewhat skeptical prior to purchasing this product after reading many negative reviews with users describing disastrous results after installation. I purchased and was lucky enough to recieve the newest version for XP support (without the requirement to download the XP support patch). It installed without a problem and works great!

Summary: kinda slow
Review: This product is good but it sometimes slows down and almost freezes. I use this with xp and it is much slower in reaction time compared to use with windows lower than xp.
