Summary: Terrible user's guide
Review: I purchased Easy CD creator 5 platinum and have found that the user's guide is virtually useless. Even the tech at technical help agreed that they did not have good instructions. Be prepared to spend time and $ for tech help. They do not have a toll free phone number to call and I was on hold and with the tech today for over 1 hour! I would have tried something different if I would have realized all of this.

Summary: It does what I want it to...
Review: I am surprised by the low rating a lot of people give this product. I've been using it for some time now on Windows XP Professional with a Plextor 16x drive, and I have had 100% successful results. I even tried out the CD label maker program, and it had a template for my CD stomper labels! It made very nice labels, and even read the CD info from the CDDB database, so I didn't even have to type the song names! Cool.

Summary: WORST PRODUCT EVER! DON'T BUY!
Review: I an avid computer user, and I've used Easy CD Creator 4.0 Platinum for about 9 months to a year. I kept on having to get updates that were very confusing, they had special updates for my model dell! After that I got a bug that wouldn't let me run the program, my brother also had the same problem. So basically I couldn't burn cd's at all. It wouldn't even let me burn after a complete hard drive formatting. So I basically lost all my ($). Not to my suprise all this happened about 1 month after the 5.0 release. How very convienient? Take my advice and although most of us believe more money is better, in this case it isn't. Go for Nero. I use it now and it is great!

Summary: Don't Buy - Look at Nero
Review: First, let me state, that I am a BIG fan of 4.x. It was a great program. When Roxio went to 5.0 it was a huge mistake.

Two products really were bad. First was Roxio's Easy CD Creator Basic (bundled with a computer I just purchased). It was supposed to come installed, but did not work. After countless hours messing with support, on-line forums, etc. It still failed the same way, and never did work. Sooo, I then did something "not-so-bright" and decided to go with Roxio CD Creator 5.0 Platinum. Second big mistake. First it required that I download an update from their web-site for it to work correctly (I am running Windows 2000 and parts of this product are incompatible with the operating system - goes for XP also). I created a couple of coasters (i.e. failed CD burns). The real grief was when I tried to un-install the product. On re-boot I received a blue-screen-of-death! Turns out that Platinum does NOT remove a couple of driver entries from the registry, but DOES remove the drivers from Windows! According to the various technical forums I visited, this is a know problem with Win2K and XP. The result is several hours trying to rebuild my system (there is an easy fix, but Roxio doesn't tell you what it is, I found it out on a support forum). Anyway, in my book, any product that flames your operating system is a virus, not a useful program. Oh, it is pretty easy to use feature wise, but I have had nothing, but problems getting Platinum to: recognize my CD drive (a Toshiba, go figure), run (after three different installs, taking different paths in the installation it finally came up), un-install! A poor product.

Summary: #1 Seller to novice buyers
Review: What Roxio doesn't tell you in their book but online in their secured support discussion section is that to load it with little problems, you must start all windows versions using the clean boot approach and modifying your registry. This is not a job for a novice computer user. Best advice look else where for cd burnering.

Summary: The 5.1 Version Works!
Review: Despite these reviews (which did keep me away from the 5.0 version being sold here) I installed the 5.1 version of this software on my new Dell Dimension 8200 (running WinXP) and it works just fine. No CD burning problems at all. If you are running Windows XP, do make sure you get the version that is Windows XP compatible (it's the one without the program "Take Two" listed as a feature)....

I had no problems burning CDs, printing the jewel case inserts or the CD label. Did not even have to tweak the print settings to work with my OLD Canon BJC240. It was all automatic. I highly recommend version 5.1 of this product.

Summary: Roxio misrepresents this product
Review: This product is supposed to be used in Windows Me and Windows XP. With Windows Me I could never get the Windows Media Player to connect with the Easy Creator 5.0 Platinum. I E-mailed Roxio which I have not heard from them yet. This is August 3, 2002 and I bought this thing June 29, 2002. After changing to Windows XP Home Edition I found that the computer reported that Roxio Creator 5.0 is not compatible. I tried to install it anyway into the Windows XP. Roxio Creator reported it could not find the controls so I tried to cancel the installation. I could not cancel because the computer finished installing. Then I tried to format a CD which I received the message that there was no CD Recorder connected to my computer. I have the Windows Media Player Recorder. My advice is to save your money and don't buy this misrepresented merchandise. I wish I could rate this product -10.

Summary: an updated mess
Review: I have rated this product 1-star based on the updated version as of the date of my previous review. Their tech support (email) produced no solution.

Roxio has promised that the latest update will solve the problems; I tried it, and the situation has not changed.

Do you have a zero-stars rating? No? Too bad.

Summary: Alex's Review
Review: I do not care for this product. It makes backing up your hard drive info extremely difficult. Too many processes.
