Summary: Treat with caution
Review: After joining several partitions into one I was left with not being able to uninstall many of the programs on the hard drive.

Summary: NOT FOR NT!
Review: I purchased this product to merge partitions on some Win 95 and 98 boxes in my office. For that purpose, this software worked wonderfully. Not one problem came up. If you intend to use this product on those platforms, you should be happy. It did wonderful work on those machines.

I got too confident in it and tried to resize two partitions on a Windows NT machine, with the ultimate result being a system corruption from which we were unable to recover. I succeeded in resizing my partitions only after I was forced to REINSTALL THE ENTIRE WINDOWS NT OPERATING SYSTEM. UGH. Maybe I did something I wasn't supposed to do, who knows? But this software should be good enough to recognize when the user is doing something stupid and not let you. At the very least, it should give lots of warnings. No such luck... My advice is stay away from this product for NT unless you are an MCSE or experienced enough.

Summary: Good but be careful...
Review: I purchased this software package because of: 1.The customer reviews, and 2.I wanted to partition my new 45 gig hard drive (I thought it would speed up the processor speed).

The instructions are not user friendly, I had to muddle through the process of setting up my partitions. Once the software started, it too SEVERAL hours to complete the process. This information was not in the book, but on a supplement insert I happen to read while waiting for the process to complete (needless to say I stopped waiting and left my computer on by itself to do its work).

Once the program was in place the partitions were competed the way I set them up, but the program caused problems with other software I previously installed and those I installed after Partition Magic. For example, my internet connection program would not work and tech support ran out of alternatives to solve the problem.

I was lucky to have Power Quest "Second Chance" included with my computer so after I uninstalled Partition Magic, I revereted to the second chance program to restore my system before installing PM. Everything worked after the uninstallation and restoration.

As an unexpected bonus though, the partitions were still in place and my computer system works the way I wanted it to, but I don't notice any faster processing speeds.

Good program but you may need more than an intermediate knowledge of home computer systems.

Summary: Don't tell anyone that you use this :)
Review: I used to do this the long way. I would never trust this new fangled Partition Magic stuff. Any way what would me friends say if I told them that all I had to do was press a few buttons and that would take the place of backing up, fdisk, formatting and various other steps just to get a second operating system on my only disk. O.K. I'm coming out. I will no longer have to stuff rags under the door at two in the morning to make new partitions. The real neat thing is how the data mysteriously ends up on the correct partition.

Summary: Does not work on Windows ME
Review: I was a little concerned when I attempted to install the product and the documented installation instructions didn't work (referenced an executable that didn't exist). It was simple enough to fix, but made me wonder about the overall quality.

And again, while installing Boot Magic, I received an "undocumented" Boot Magic error. Not even an explanation of the error on their site. A second e-mail to their support.

One of the two e-mails to Partition Magic support was answered five days later simply re-stating the information in the error message. Never did receive a reply on the general installation question.

Actually, the ease-of-use of the product had won me over, until it "hung" on a partition resize operation and left the partition "locked" thus unavailable to the OS scandisk utility (which, incidentally, is what they tell you to run to clear the condition). Only way out, format the disk. I see why they tell you to back everything up before using their product.

A few too many problems for my liking. I can't recommend it.

Summary: Software partitioning at its best.
Review: I will never prefer something like this over FDISK (call me old fashioned), but this is the best there is as far as partitioning on the fly. As a matter of fact, although FDISK is all I would ever use, Partition Magic is what was used to partition my very first hard drive and that partition table remained intact for over a year before I finally redid it all.

I did begin to have cluster problems towards the end of that partitioning campaign, but any partition table may develop problems over that time. Could be due to hardware as well.

As far as "on-the-fly" partitioning goes, look no further. This seems perfectly safe for creating new extended partitions without damaging or losing data but I will never condone this practice. I've lost data once (not related to this) and I'll never take another chance again.

I'm not going to get into any specifics with this product and make it look like a tech review because most of you just want to know if it works good or not...so in short, yeh it does. Nothing to date worth that 5 stars though!

Summary: A must have program for serious computer users
Review: I've used Partition Magic since version 3.0. It is a phenominal program that allows hard drive repartitioning "on-the-fly" and easy booting into different operating systems. I have a PC-DOS/Win3.1 partition and a Win98SE partition on the same hard drive. I have also had a Linux partition on the drive. You can resize partitions and convert from fat 16 to fat32 and back. Boot Magic (and the previous Boot Manager) are great to allow for easy booting into any OS that you have on your drive. Partition Magic has never given my a problem. I have never lost data. If you want to have more than one OS on your computer or to try out a new OS or upgrade, then this program is a must have. Highly reccommended.

Summary: A Bit Pricy But Does A Fantastic Job
Review: Partition Magic 5.0 is by far the best partitioning utility on the market. Creating, resizing, or any operation you tell it to do doesn't take much time to complete. I have to admit, it is somewhat expensive, but does a nice job!
