Summary: Norton AV 2003 (with NSW) was a disaster !!
Review: Norton Anti virus 2003 was a terrible product with lousy support. Anybody can post FAQ's on their web site. What matters to people is speaking to a live person that's not going to charge you when you just made your purchase.

These folks just don't get it ! So why buy the 2004 product !

Summary: Crashed and burned!!!
Review: When I first bought a computer about 3 years ago, Norton's products were always well recomended. And for the last 3 years I've used nothing but Norton's products. So when I got the new 2004 version of thier antivirus software I thought that the quality would be consistent with the other versions. WRONG!!!

This program is horrible. First, it never installed properly. When you load the program onto your computer you are supposed to restart your machine and then an "Information Wizard" is supposed to appear that will activate the program. That "wizard" never appeard and thus it was never fully activated. The program was half installed with no way to access it.

Secondley, it made my system unstable. I had freeze ups, system crashes, fatal errors galore. Norton's should have put a few more weeks of quality assurance into this program. But I have a feeling they rushed it on to the market.

Lastly, this program is a resource hog. It's so bloated with superflous features that it sucks up alot of system resources when older versions would run smoothely and unobtrusively.

I am very VERY dissapointed in this program. When I buy an antivirus program I expect that it would at least do what it's SUPPOSED to do and run unoticed in the background. This did niether. I am considering using MacAffee from now on as a result.

Summary: Warning..Symantec products corrupt each other
Review: Oh boy...if you have Norton Firewall 2003 on the machine and Antivirus 2003 on the machine, you may be in for it. I upgraded to Norton Antivirus 2004, and the Firewall software is now corrupted. I get the pleausre of going through the nightmare of deinstalling both products to try to resolve the problem. Makes me really confident when a software company can't get it's OWN products to work together. It may be time to move on to the competition at this point (since I had the same problem with LAST years programs). How the mighty have fallen

Summary: Install Bugs after 98 to XP upgrade
Review: Bought this version prior to 98 to XP upgrade, as NAV 2000
would not be compatable. Installed under 98, seemed fine.
After XP upgrade, Norton reported license problem, asked me
to uninstall. Uninstall had errors, re-install won't work.
NAV 2003 won't install because of traces of 2004.

Not recommended if you are planning to get it to "get ready"
for XP upgrade.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: This is my 3rd Symantec product that I have purchased. The other two I was very happy with. This one wouldn't install on my computer. The software asked me to reinstall it twice. My computer locked up completely. The online help is only good if you can use your computer. My fourth time of deleting the software I wrote to Symantec and they are going to try to respond in four to five business days. Considering Norton's has always been good in the pass, at this point I would try a different product.

Summary: The best - and it keeps getting better!
Review: I've been using Norton Anti-Virus products for the past 8 years. As a webmaster and Internet professional, I would be lost without the protection this product provides. More times than I can count, Symantec/Norton products have saved my computer and my files from dangerous software viruses, worms and other malicious programs. I keep my virus definitions up to date at all times.

Just recently, I discovered to my delight that my virus software was also safeguarding my system from spyware, that software that looks innocent, but that gets on your system through tool bars (like the MSN toolbar) and gathers information about you or your surfing habits.

Even better news is that Symantec (the owner of Norton Anti-Virus) is getting into the anti-SPAM business. I can't think of a smarter and more effective company to help with that huge problem!

As far as the tech support issue on Norton is concerned, if you first use the very helpful and extensive database of information Norton has developed on their website, you will find that you have almost no need to ever even contact tech support. I have personally never had any problems with tech support, but that may be because I try to do my homework first. If you try to contact tech support in the middle of a new and large virus attack, it is understandable that you will have to wait for help. This would be true no matter which virus software you select.

The people who have problems with Norton usually do one or more of the following:
1. Do not keep their virus definitions current.
2. Are not careful about downloading programs, games, music files, and screensavers from companies they do not know.
3. Do not read the directions for the program
4. Do not use the information available on the symantec.com website
5. Do not regularly scan their computer for viruses.

The malicious programmers who are trying to cause problems with your computer are a very aggressive and active bunch. This means that if you want to protect yourself, you will not be able to get by with a passive defense. Norton is a tool, but like any tool, it is useful if you use it properly.

Summary: What a ripoff!
Review: The problems began when the installation froze, stretching installation time to a whopping five hours! Once the software was finally installed, it encountered an "internal error" which could be "addressed" at the Symantec website. Unfortunatly, however, the technical support link is non-existent. Literally, "www.symantec.com/techsupp" DOES NOT EXIST!!! This also renders live updates impossible. Of course, this issue could probably be resolved on the phone during the work week for the low price of 30 bucks. Instead, I'll just trash this piece of crap and spend 40 bucks on PC-Cillin 2004. Buyer beware!!

Summary: Interesting provider of non-costly software
Review: That was an OEM and I didn't expect more than a CD-ROM. Nisofts provided me with a Norton Antivirus 2004, which was installed flawlessly. They reacted fast to Amazon order and they shipped the software fast. They deserve five stars.
