Summary: Know what you're doing
Review: 1) Read & follow instructions very carefully. Mistakes could be catastrophic. 2) unless you're pretty good with computers (e.g., can set up home network w/o many problems), don't use it b/c its too finicky. 3) Download trial version from Eisenworld.com & pay if it works, undo if not. 4) It doesn't move utility programs (norton av & sw, zonelab) & they will be a pain to reinstall. 5) empty trash & delete internet caches etc. before moving. 6) I used this from XP->XP over tcp/ip, with automatic settings, so it work but with quirks. 7) only migrates to 1 & only 1 target PC.

Summary: horror
Review: After reading how easy it would be to transfer my old computer's files to my new computer, I purchased this software. I new I was in trouble when it took most of one night to get both computers to recognize the usb cable( included with the program). I then began the transfer following all instructions. Old computer has win2000 and new one has win xp professional. Transfer ran and then it tried to reboot new computer. No reboot! Win xp refused to start. error message "NTLDR is missing". No problem, I thought , let me call tech support at Alohabob. After searching high and low for a phone number I found it hidden away on a hard to find support page. No problem, I thought, I will call and they will fix it right away. When you call you find out that they have stopped all live support. Just leave your name and number and someone will call you in say 24 to 72 hours. Excuse me, why wasn't I told this before buying this software? I sit patiently waiting in front of a blank screen hoping someone will call. Oh, did I forget to mention... for an additional fee you can get some other kind of support. Great, Seventy dollars for a program that does not work and now they have me hostage and expect me to pay more. Drop dead Mr Alohabob, and fix this mess on my brand new computer!

Summary: NOT WORTH THE MONEY
Review: After two or three unsuccessful tries to get this program to load properly, I gave it one more try. It finally loaded, then it would not recognize the USB connection. Gave some kind of communication error with the cable. One more try, and I was finally able to communicate. Went thru the process of picking the files to be transferred and the program came back with a description of which files will transfer and which ones would not.

To my surprise, of the 27 programs I wanted to transfer, only 1 was give a "High" probability, 2 were given "Medium" probability, 4 were given "Low" probability, and 20 were given "Will not transfer".

What a rip-off. Don't waste your money on this junk.

If you are upgrading your system to Windows XP, it has it's own file transfer feature built-in. Just go to Start, Program, Accessories, Tools and pick the File Transfer Function.

Summary: pretend i gave it ZERO stars
Review: ah, you've gotta love a program that takes the liberty of shutting down windows explorer so it can "run properly". believe me, do not even CONSIDER spending actual MONEY on this product and DEFILING your system with it. why? no reasons that haven't already been touched upon by other reviewers. it should be illegal to put software this low quality onto the market.

die, aloha bob. die.

Summary: It worked for me!
Review: Amazon reviewers warned me that it would be difficult so I expected hard work and some expertise with computers to get PC Relocator Ultra to work. I wasn't surprised then that I had to install, run, tweak, undo, clean up, uninstall, and start over 4 times. I wasn't surprised that it took one to three days to get a response to each of my "online" tech support inquiries (I couldn't get through by phone except to hear the announcement to leave a message and a time they could call back). But I did expect some expertise from tech support and thought I would have an external hard disk by now with a functioning clone of my Optiplex harddrive. Boy was I optimistic! To add insult to injury, PC Relocator announces "Your relocation has been successful!" at the end of each run. I finally gave up and used MIcrosoft XP's Files & Programs Transfer Wizard and it worked fine!

Summary: Not sure whether the software or the tech support is worse!

Summary: Fantastic software---transfers outlook successfully
Review: As a frequent traveler, I know the pain/trouble of dealing with home computer and the laptop I used for business trips.
It is really inconvenient that I can't have my work computer and my laptop identical. Friends of mine recommend Alohabob PC Relocator to transfer data between work computer and laptop. But some of the reviews are not so convincing.

I have a Win XP (home) laptop and desktop. My main concerns are my outlook emails and address books, and my documents files. So I make a call myself to see if it is going to work for me. Support was very professional and helpful; they gave me a lot of tips on how to transfer outlook data. Basically, I need to create an Outlook folder in my documents folder. Export my outlook data into that folder. Do a selective migration only transferring my documents folder. Once the data got transfer, and then import them to my existing outlook inbox. I was told to do this not to override my current Outlook data.

Guess what, it transferred my outlook data smoothly as well as my documents folder. This is absolutely fantastic software and company. I definitely will use this software again.

Summary: Works, but not as I thought.
Review: Based on the other reviews, I bought PC Relocator UltraControl. After installing, I realized that to have a smooth relocation that you need to plan, plan, and plan. Your old PC needs to be well organized too. Because of various reasons, my old PC's two hard drives were partitioned into several partitions. Programs were not installed on the C drive with the OS and PC Relocator did not like this. Relocator puts each of the partitions in separate folders on the new PC drive if you do not have exactly the same drive configuration on the new PC. Of course the programs did not work properly on the new PC after the relocation since they were not in the correct location so I un-did the relocation, manually installed most of my programs on the new PC, and then re-did the relocation. A number of shareware and freeware programs could not be relocated. Another quirk is that while the program was collecting data on the old PC, I started the process on the new PC and I kept getting an error that said that it could not find my old PC on the network. I checked all connections and confirmed that I could communicate to the old PC through the LAN. I discovered that I had to wait for the old PC to finish collecting data. PC Relocator does move some information which was helpful but I expected it to be complete and simple. I spent about 16 hours getting the relocation to work right and to get the new PC set up after the relocation.

Summary: Terrific Product
Review: Bought the product last week and used it yesterday. Was a little nervous after reading some of the reviews but following the directions that came with it I was up and running my new computer in about three hours. Everything worked just as it was described and everything was where it belonged including my Favorites, History, and e-mail addresses. My biggest worry was all the photos on my hard drive but they were all moved successfully.
I would definitly recommend this product to anyone buying a new computer, just be sure to follow the directions.

Summary: It worked for me!
Review: By and large PC Relocator Ultra worked for me. I used a Network Crossover cable. This was not easy to install. The so-called automatic feature whereby PC Relocator will change your computer network's settings for you did not work. I had to make the setting change manually on both computers. Likewise the utility for changing the network settings back to their original settings did not work and I had to reconfigure them manually before I was able to get on the Internet again.

Likewise although the program told me that I shouldn't and couldn't transfer Norton Anti-Virus, Norton Anti-Virus 2003 was transferred but seems to work just fine in its new location. The computer which I purchased had Norton Internet Security 2004 installed and when activating it, it recognized the Norton 2003 and the two work seamlessly thus far.

My scanner no longer works, but the manufacturer's web site says that that the software is not compatible with the Windows XP operating system for my new computer so I'll have to purchase a new scanner and software if I want to continue scanning.

My Family Tree Maker Version 11 is working fine although for some reason the name I have given to my main file (My wife and my first names) was somehow changed in the transfer to my first and last name and a 5th cousin's first and last name!! (Go figure) None of the names in the file seem to have been lost

This said, I would recommend using PC Relocator. Most of my programs transferred just fine. I was given a warning by PC Relocator beforehand about those which probably wouldn't transfer and didn't, such as my TurboTax program. It said that they lacked installers with the programs and if I wanted to keep them I would have to manually re-install following transfer. This I have had to do.

.I had many programs and files to transfer and the actual transfer procedure took a little over 2 hours. The entire process of setting up took more time, of course. The process was slowed by the power going out which meant I had to start over. I had a battery backup power supply for my old computer, but not on the new one. My advice is to get an extra power supply even though it costs an extra $40.00 for the cheapest model. You'll save grief and your spouse's or friend's ears and sensibilities.
