Summary: Do NOT buy or use this product
Review: I recently upgraded from an HP running XP Home, to a custom built PC running XP Pro, and wanted to transfer files to my new PC in an efficient manner. Well, after spending approximately 10 hours installing programs on my new machine, and then running Detto (which took about 8 of the 10 hours), I have had MULTIPLE problems with my new PC, which worked perfectly before I ran Detto. I should have used that time to simply burn stuff to CD's instead. If you are thinking of purchasing this product - STOP! Do NOT do that. Instead, either burn stuff to CD's or get a "mirror" program instead. Save yourself the aggravation, and the money. It's just not worth it. Too bad Amazon doesn't let you give something ZERO stars, 'cause that's my real rating.

Summary: More useful than Windows XP File Transfer Wizard
Review: I transferred from a Pentium 2 Gateway 233 MHz to a Pentium 4 HP Pavilion 2.4 GHz. I first tried the Windows XP Transfer Wizard, but there are several drawbacks to this method: (1) I had to establish a Small Office Network (buy a router, use the Network Wizard, etc.), (2) XP Transfer Wizard does not transfer preferrences, settings, or data from applications such as Outlook Express (which means you loose your Address Book and all the old emails). On the positive side, Windows XP transfer wizard did a good job with my MP3 files; it took about 30 minutes to transfer about 1200 files. Also, it came loaded with the Windows XP operating system (so it is "free").

Intelli-Mover transfers settings and preferences, as well as data files. The program needed 2 hrs 39 minutes for the complete transfer of about 1 Gb. Here are a couple of advisories: (1) You need to have applications loaded on your new computer before you transfer; (2) You will need a floppy to create a Transfer Wizard on the old computer; (3) Be careful with the transferred data, namely, do not delete an application like Outlook Express and reload it after you have transferred: you will loose your Address Book. (5) Note, also, you have to turn off all anti-virus software during the transfer. (6) You should not get rid of your Old Monitor before transferring; a blind transfer is really not an easy task. (7) Finally, you have to check all your applications by starting them before you can really deem the transfer complete.

I hope this helps.

Summary: Lousy Program
Review: I used this program to transfer files from my old win98 computer to my new XP computer. It promptly crashed both systems. Finally transferred most files including some programs such as Norton System Works which, which it should not have , and is still playing havoc with the new XP system causing a crash about once a week. Emailed Dell from whom I bought the program and Ditto and received no response from either.

Summary: Move over red Rover
Review: I wanted to move data from my Gateway pc running Windows 98 to my Dell pc running Windows XP. I saw IntelliMover and thought I would try it, primarily because it moves over my specific setting preferences and email without time consuming burning and without having to figure out XP's hidden identity files. I watched the demonstration and hooked my computers together with the provided usb cable. Everything worked, and it didn't take that long. Just be aware that for things to move over seamlessly you have to have your software programs already installed onto the computer you are moving stuff to. Also, it seems to be more difficult with more than a one time use, I don't know from experience but would be nervous to use it again. I would have given this software a much higher star rating if I felt confident that it could be used multiple times for paying the price to own the program. Another thing is, the IntelliMover file is still on my hard drive and I don't know what to do about it, should I trash it now? If I need to use the program again in the future should the older file be removed and/or will it recognize the previous actions? I do like that the program has two options, pull over all data, or manually select the files you would like to be moved over, however, it also pulled over a couple of files that I didn't want.

Summary: LOOK INWARD (BEFORE YOU LEAP)
Review: I've used this system twice. Once it worked as advertised. The other time it totally screwed up my system. The difference might be that on the successful use, I chose the Select All on the menu of files and settings to transfer. On the disastorous usage, I checked individual program files. Worst of all, Detto customer support was completely useless, ignorant, and unreliable (not returning calls etc).

LOOK INWARD XP USERS: This might all be solved by Microsoft. XP comes with a file and settings transfer program. Not sure exactly how it stacks up vs. Detto product, but I will try the XP program before messing with the Detto program again. Bottom line: a lot of money for a USB cord.

Summary: Software is Poor for Transferring Data
Review: IntelliMover , which is marketed by both Momorex and Detto Technologies, is a software product for transferring (migrating) data from the user's old PC to his/her new one. Unfortunately, it is a poor product that fails to deliver in my experience. Packaging and Websites by Memorex and Detto misleadingly promise that the software will transfer data quickly and easily from the user's old PC to his/her new one. In my experience, it failed miserably. I will never use the product again and recommend that no one buy it.

First, except perhaps in fine print hidden somewhere, Memorex and Detto fail clearly to inform the buyer on product packaging or its Websites, that the program does *not* transfer applications.

Second, during the transfer IntelliMover is supposed to move all files associated with each program from the old computer to the new one, including those that define the user's personal settings and customizations of said programs. However, in my experience the software did this for only some programs.

In sum, I recommend the PC users look elsewhere for solutions to transferring data from an old PC to a new one. Clearly, in my experience the manufacturer overstates what IntelliMover can deliver. In my opinion, the product is poor.

Summary: Total failure at first but keep trying
Review: Number of files and settings transferred after 4 attempts: zero. This software just froze up every time and had to be restarted from the beginning.

However by limiting the transfer to just the settings it did get through without freezing. Then I used the included file transfer program to transfer the files. This also would freeze up after 10-12 minutes, but at least with that application you did not lose all your work before it froze up.

One tip is that you really have to close all the applications, like antivirus software for instance, that run in the background. If it freezes up you need to re-boot the computer.

I contacted Detto's customer support by e-mail and they are first-rate. But the software needs to be easier to use.
