Summary: NIS 2002 upgrade for XP Beware
Review: I was successfully running NIS 2001 with my Windows 98, and I wanted to upgrade to Windows XP. (NIS 2001 is not XP compatible) I successfully upgraded to NIS 2002 before I upgraded to XP. Life has been miserable since, and Symantec does not help the problem.
After installing XP the ONLY program on my computer that did not make the transistion was NIS 2002. I got a Symantec error saying that since I upgraded my operating system I was going to have to uninstall NIS 2002, and reinstall it in XP. The NIS 2002 is such a horrible mess that it cannot uninstall itself. Nor is XP able to either. The fun is only beginning. Symantec makes it very, very difficult to locate tech help numbers. They want you to plow through a ton of FAQ pages on their website, and hopefully something will help. Symantec's uninstaller utilities that are bundled with the software are NOT supported by Symantec, and they warn you that they are not responsible for problems caused by their own uninstall utility. The fun is not over though...
If you wish to speak to tech help, it will cost $30!!! (not including long distance fees, plus add-in that I spent 45 minutes in a phone queue)
So lets review why I gave this one star.
1) Amazon doesn't let you give zero or even negative number stars.
2) Software that says that it's XP compatible, maybe it is, it sure doesn't seem like it.
3) Tech support that is next to non-existant, and the little support I got was the tech guy saying "call Microsoft." (this is not an XP error - so Microsoft can't help)
4) Tech support is only open M-F. (that's funny I work those days)
Before all this I was a big cheerleader for Symantec, as you can tell, that's changed.

Summary: Norton Internet Security 2002
Review: I did a port scan on my computer before installing Internet Security and found vulnerable areas open to attack. After installing just the trial version, I was not able to find any open ports and also stopped 6 hackers from attacking my computer...and that was in just 3 days! It even tells you the I.P. address of the attacker. I'll be buying this program as soon as my trial is nearing it's end. This is a good one!

Summary: BEWARE
Review: Not only is this horrible software, but it will destroy your ability to open your Email program. When you go to Norton / Symantec for help, you will learn that they have built a tremendous firewall around the company against its customers. Their technical support consists of a bunch of meaningless white papers. Call them, and you are told you will be paying $30 for the call. If you are willing to do this, you go thru many levels of questions, only to be told that this "service" is not available. I am extremely technically savy, but I can't get this to work. My ISP provider has no ideas either. There should be a big warning on this box that it will foul up your Email. BEWARE....buy this product at your own risk.

Summary: Great firewall and antivirus; terrible parental control
Review: Great firewall and antivirus software. If you're buying this to use the parental control feature, however, don't. The lack of working URL updates for parental control makes that piece of the software useless. Symantec has known about the URL update problem since Sep and has yet to provide a solution.

Summary: Great firewall and antivirus; Horrible parental control
Review: If you're purchasing this to use the parental control software, don't. Although Norton identified a problem with URL updates for the parental control list in September, they have yet to provide a fix. The antivirus and personal firewall software works like a charm. But Norton's support (they don't respond to email or letters) for users of the parental control software is nonexistent!

Summary: Great firewall for a beginner, not enough for advanced user
Review: I bought this firewall product on my DSL. It is not quite up to my expection, but it is still a good product.
Pro:
1. easy to set up and use
2. the default setting can be strict, if you choose firewall setting "block everthing unless specified"
3. it provides both port filter and application filter.
Con:
Mostly for power users:
1. the firewall rule is not flexible enough, and advanced setting is confusing. (compared to IPCHAINS in Linux, and Lock'nStop for windows)
2. It CAN slow the performance quite a lot, especially when loading the firewall rules (I have about 30 rules). Taking minutes
3. CANNOT differeciate between local net and extra net, which is a big fault. However, there is a Network Adapter option, which fits for this purpose. but i cannot get this to work...

Summary: It works for newbies.
Review: It can be a great product because it combines antivirus and personal firewall in one suite; however, Norton Antivirus slows down computer a great deal, and requires buying the virus definition upgrade after one year of use. There are a few antivirus software that works better and cost much less: DrWeb, NOD32, Kaspersky AVI, Panda AntiVirus and etc. "Tiny Firewall" and "Sygate Firewall" are a free software, which in my opinion works better than Symantec.

Summary: Works Real Well
Review: When we got our high speed internet for the first time, we shortly afterward got a virus. Then we got this, and we haven't had a problem since. I was surprised how many times you get hacked with a subseven, and if you have cable internet, this is a necesity. 5 stars definately

Summary: Nothing but problems on Windows XP
Review: I've had nothing but problems with this product. I've had to de-install it. It caused all sorts of problems with Windows Media Player. Even though I have DSL, I could only select slow speeds like 56k in Media Player. Selecting faster speeds just caused things to hang. I can't recommend this product.

Summary: Best on the net
Review: Absoulutely outstanding. After several damaging virus's and hacker attacks, I purchased this software to protect my system on which I operate a small home based business. Since installing this easy to use software, I have not had a single succesful attack.

The auto download gets your virus definitions up to date easily. The firewall protects sensitive info from being stolen, and the email virus scan protects you from all known email virus.

A must have for anyone who spends alot of time on the internet.
