Summary: So complicated that we had to return it for refund
Review: I love Norton's products. I've been using Norton Anti-virus and SystemWorks for years. So I was so excited when I learned they had an Internet Security product. Within the first day after I installed it, I was ready to throw it out the window! I am well-versed in technology. I was a network administrator for a university department, and I've written technology books...so I know what I am doing. But I found this piece of software one of the most frustating exercises in futility EVER. Once installed, it began conflicting with other programs. It blocked many legitimate sites, even though the setting was "low sensitivity." Several times after restarting the machine, it wouldn't even allow us to connect to the Internet. After 24 hours of playing with it, adjusting it, and reading the Help feature, I gave up and returned it for a refund. I wouldn't use it even if it were free.

Summary: Works great - Easy to install, Easy to maintain
Review: I downloaded this software from Amazon.com and installed it within a few minutes. The setup is painless and the software prompts you for all the necessary information. As different software programs on your computer attempt to access the internet, Norton Internet Security will ask you to give or deny permission for internet access. The combined virus software also works great. It automically downloads and installs new virus information. It quickly scans incoming emails without interfering with the funtionality of Outlook. You can also set it up to scan outgoing email. This feature is a bit annoying but is easily disabled. When a virus is located, the program takes the necessary action and provides you with the option to obtain more information about the virus. All in all a great product!! I also recommend downloading the software directly from Amazon.com. That way you can be up in running in minutes and save on shipping costs.

Summary: Excellent Product - Essential Protection Covered
Review: The installation wizard made this a breeze to install! (even for a non-techie) The protection features exceeded my expectations, and like any Symantec product, speaks quality. With the ability to set "rules" for protection, I am confident that I have full internet protection.

Summary: Unstable + doesn't work = bad deal
Review: I'm running XP Home on a Dell Optiplex GX240 with a P4 1.6ghz, cable internet access thru a Linksys cable modem and wireless router. My setup is all new and works fine. Bought NIS2002 yesterday and installed it. Installed fine, and LiveUpdate worked great. Got all updates, no problem. Set up personal firewall for 'Automatic', which is supposed to ask me when an application opens whether I want to allow that app to access the internet or not. Launched Outlook Express 6, Norton worked OK, everything fine. Launched Netscape 6 and IE6, and the fun begins. Bottom line: I can't get page downloads using any browser as long as any component of NIS personal firewall is enabled. If I disable ALL components of NIS personal firewall, but leave Norton Antivirus running, it works OK. I've tried to make this thing for 4 hours, using their website and 'knowledge base' (not a lot of knowledge there) extensively. Even tried to call their FOR FEE tech support, but they're closed on weekends(what's up with THAT)!OK, so I just disable personal firewall, right? Problem is - when I do that, NIS crashes about every 3rd time. Why? Who knows? This is just bad software. Even if it COULD eventually be made to work correctly, the fact that an experienced user with a brand new system can't make it work out of the box means it's bad software by default. Maybe it'll work for you, maybe not. I certainly won't be buying anything from Norton again. McAfee, here I come.

Summary: Zero problems
Review: I have read many reviews of people who have had the software crash their system. I am a user who always pushes my machine to attempt a crash so I can see the limits of the system, and have not had Internet Security crash my system yet, and not from a lack of trying. I own a Dell 8100, running XP, cable modem, and have way too much stuff loaded on my system, which is mostly used for number crunching.
On a loaded, fairly up-to-date system with up-to-date software and hardware drivers, I have had no problems with this at all.
For the features, it has the basics plus other features I use but didn't knowI had any use for before.
As for a buggy unistall mentioned by other, I would not know. I have no desire at all to remove this software from my system.

Summary: Difficult to install, use, and uninstall
Review: This product was very awkward to intall and configure, degraded overall computer performace and kept interuppting the work. The virus scan continually crashed the system. Even the built-in uninstall took two or three tries and even then did not completely remove or the residual junk.

Review: This software is the best around. With firewall and antivirus these two programs will stop a hacker and will never bother you again. I have been with Norton for about 4 years and I will not switch back to Mcaffee.

Summary: Completely hosed my system
Review: When upgrading my Dell Dimension 4100 from Win/Me to Win/XP via a scratch install, I was forced to upgrade my NAV license to NAV 2002 for XP support. I chose the NIS 2002 upgrade over the NAV 2002 upgrade because with the ... rebate, it was ... cheaper overall, with more "function". But it [messed] up my machine big time. It crippled my internet connection (cable) which worked just fine beforehand and the support options and solutions were pitiful. I finally got the thing completely de-installed (I hope!) and bought NAV 2002 instead. I prefer NAV over McAfee but will never buy another Symantec product again after this experience.

Summary: Do not buy this software
Review: With the recent improvements in the security settings in MS Internet Explorer 6.0, many of the features of this software (e.g., cookie blocking) have become redundant. The remaining major feature, ad blocking, is useful but not worth the price of the software. Moreover, the software lacks several functions one would otherwise expect--pop-up blocking and the blocking and removal of spyware (hidden programs that, once downloaded onto your system, report back personal information to whoever installed them). Of particular concern is the fact that this program pre-approves ads provided by certain information-gathering companies, without bothering to tell you. (Improves the bottom line, you know!) To find and remove these sites, you have have to go to "Options--Internet Security--Advanced Options--Ad Blocking" and remove them individually. "But didn't I buy this software to eliminate that kind of problem?", you ask. Exactly my point.
