Summary: Surfing on a brick
Review: Hi, I've been trying IS6 now for 2 months, and have found it very hard work. It works well as a Firewall, antivirus, but the Security Center & Spamkiller are c**p. The security center has to keepbeing turned off all the time and thats going to safe, decent sites, the spamkiller works on rules, which are not the hardest thing for spammers to break, so 90% gets through. I dont know whether its my configuration but I have had to uninstall Privacy Center, and use Cloudmark Spamnet for anti-spam.

One example is security center doesnt work with remote desktop, so you have to go to the remote dektop and switch of SC before connecting.
I wish I had gone for Norton Security

Summary: Some problems, but better than Norton
Review: The problems:
(1) Outlook Express cannot successfully download email from a POP3 account unless SpamKiller and Privacy Service are disabled.
(2) Privacy service flags pages based on "keywords" and so gets lots of false positives.
(3) The firewall doesn't listen when you tell it "don't ask me about this program again."

The plusses:
(1) It installed OK. I couldn't get Norton Internet Security to install at all.
(2) AntiVirus works great.

Summary: Very Poor - Don't take the risk!
Review: DO NOT INSTALL THIS SOFTWARE.

This is worst software I have ever seen by Mcafee. The install reconfigured all email accounts on my computer to combining individual accounts into one. SpamKiller rejected vaild emails that could not be recovered. The Personal Firewall created a system boot problem that continously locks my computer up.

In fact, the software is so poor that even the poorly trained tech support online could not help. I spent a whole weekend restoring my PC as a result of the uninstall not properly removing the McAfee software. The uninstall deleted shared registry files. The last suggested solution was for me to contact the vendor where I purchased the PC- easy way to pass the blame. I didn't settle for the excuses...now they won't even talk to me. I have talked to 6 differnt technicians all of whom now terminate the newtork chat session ever time they find out its me again.

Spare yourself the time, trouble, and embrassment. Return it if you already bought it. DO NOT INSTALL THIS SOFTWARE. You will regret it.

Summary: completely mucked up our computer
Review: I have to agree with all the other reviewers here. We installed McAfee earlier this year and it gave us no end of computer related hell. Our computer would reboot in the midst of booting up. The printer only worked correctly if you sent through a blank page first. Anything related to e-mail was a nightmare in which eventually we couldn't get any mail from our server at all. Before we disabled it, the Spam Killer would identify almost every single email coming in as Spam even at the lowest setting. Start up and Shutting down took ages.
After uninstalling McAfee, everything went back to working properly. For virus/internet protection we downloaded a free trial of PC-Cillin Internet Security by Trend Micro. It seems to work fine with our computer so far. McAfee may work fine for on some computers, but for ours it was a complete nightmare.

Summary: TERRIBLE PRODUCT - McAfee Internet Security Suite 2004 v6.0
Review: This is truly one of the WORST software packages I've ever used. I've been quite happy with ZoneAlarm (from Zone Labs) for firewall protection and SpamNet (from CloudMark) for spam protection. I used an earlier version of VirusScan by McAfee -- standalone product. And it was time to update, and since the suite wasn't much more expensive than standalone VirusScan, I figured I'd get the suite and then maybe I could stop paying for other products a la carte.

What a disaster.

For starters, the user interface on the firewall part is pretty bad.

SpamKiller managed to trap emails with attachments that I KNOW, 100%, were not infected. And worst, I couldn't manage to get the email/attachment out of "trapped files" and back into my emailbox so I could work with it. I had to ask the sender -- a client of mine -- to re-send it, which was pretty embarassing.

After installing, I couldn't make the suite auto-update itself. You go through the configuration and then it takes you to a website where it tries to download an active-x applet to help with auto-updates. Except the download won't execute, and the website gives a page telling you that it can't download because of the pop-up blocker program. Except that I had already turned off my pop-up blocker.

And finally, VirusScan. Grrrrrr. Even though it worked okay with Outlook XP, once I upgraded to Outlook 2003, VirusScan now managed to stop all files with attachments over 600K or so from going out. Actually, let me clarify. It LOOKS like it's stopping file-send because the file hangs in "Outbox" and never moves to "Sent Mail." Except that in fact, it's making Outlook send the file 20 or even 30 times, EACH time with the big attachment, which really angers the recipient. There's no options to handle this problem, and McAfee tech support was completely useless. I spent a couple hours on the phone with Microsoft tech support thinking it was an Outlook problem, and after finally testing every possible problem, we realized that VirusScan was the problem... once we uninstalled, emailing big attachments from Outlook worked just fine.

In summary, do NOT buy this product. I'm sticking with my previous spam and firewall software, and I'll have to try another Virus protection problem. According to other reviews here, Norton's pretty bad too.

Summary: Deceptive - avoid this and all other McAfee products
Review: Not only do you not get full versions of the viruscan software and SpamKiller as listed on the box (they are actually 30-day trial offers), the software doesn't even load correctly. I had to manually edit the registry to get all the McAfee error messages from popping up. Symantec products work much better, install correctly, and don't deceive you into thinking you are buying products that you, in fact, aren't.

Summary: !!!!!!!!!WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: I brought this software with hopes that it would protect me, and it did for a little. Then my whole computer took millions of years to do anything, i got pop up ads sometimes, and never called tech support because they charge too much. I must add that I just got the virus scan and my computer runs fine.

Summary: Tremendously, tragically frustrating
Review: Since installing this software three weeks ago, I have spent 15 hours (!) online with tech support, and still it freezes my email. It's my worst experience, ever, with software.

Norton works fine. Stick with Norton.

Summary: DO NOT WORK
Review: I tried to install this product on a dell computer which came with a trial version. I uninstalled the trial version which had been expired before I install this new one. This product is total confused with the dell trial version and refused to allow me to update anything.

Called and emailed McAfee and their rep acknowledged that my receipt and I have a new version of legal copy. However, their web site still shows my registration is expired and no updates are allowed. Their rep told me to register using different email address. The problem is no matter how many time I try to install and uninstall it, it never asks me to register again. Since the virus definition are not updated, this product is virtuall useless at all.

Do not "UPGRADE" this product from previous version. You will waste your time and money because they want you to renew it online so they can make more money from you.

Summary: very inconsistent install/poor customer support site
Review: doesn't load properly, all functions don't load, then you have to uninstall and reinstall, again various functions don't load correctly or consistenly. Some units of the product have never even shown up during install. Then when you go to their site it says product has expired?? Go figure, after 8 hours of trying I'm very disappointed.
