Description:

Whether you need to recover from a hard-drive disaster or you just want to make sure your Mac is running as smoothly as the day you bought it, Norton Utilities 6.0 for the Mac contains all the tools you'll need. Installation of Norton Utilities 6.0 is quick and easy. If you bought the software to recover a damaged hard drive, the CD acts as a start-up disc, allowing you to recover your drive without damaging any missing data. Even if your drive is apparently working fine, it pays to run Norton Utilities 6.0 from the CD to first check for problems before installation.

Norton Utilities 6.0 consists of five main components to cover almost any maintenance you will ever need to do on your Mac. Norton Disk Doctor scans your disk to find and repair damaged files and applications, as well as detecting physical damage to areas of the disk itself. With Disk Doctor set to automatically repair any damage it finds, keeping your disks error free is a simple task.

Speed Disk optimizes your disk performance by reuniting files that have become fragmented and then moving them around on the disk to improve its performance. FileSaver and UnErase effectively work together to protect your files by tracking files that you delete, and scanning your disk for damage at start-up or shutdown. If you happen to delete a file that you later need to recover, UnErase can often recover the file in its entirety. Finally, Volume Recover works in conjunction with FileSaver to recover disks that are either so badly damaged that they cannot be read, or that have been accidentally initialized.

Norton's reputation and long history of producing Mac disk utilities makes Norton Utilities 6.0 an essential addition to any Mac user's troubleshooting library, and its ease of use and range of integrated functions is second to none. --Daniel Jardine
