Summary: Upgrade now! The changes are well worth it!
Review: As a seasoned Adobe FrameMaker user and expert (since version 2.0), I am pleased to see the new additions to version 6.0. The book functionality alone is worth it weight in gold! Among other things, you can now apply a variety of commands to all or selected files in a book with one click. This used to be a tedious task that had to be performed on each file individually. Adobe made some changes to Chapter and Volume numbering across files which is much easier to work with than previous versions. I could go on, but see for yourself! You will love these new changes and additions to FrameMaker. I highly recommend this upgrade.

Summary: A Classic
Review: This DTP software is a classic. It is mature and stable. For long documents like books or manuals it is a good choice. It may be a little too mature, though. The underlying technology is 16-bit code that does not take advantage of today's modern operating systems. The user interface looks like something coming from the 1980s. In the book publishing market there is not much of a competition, so Adobe may think they could get away with this. But they can't really. Compare Corel's Ventura Publisher 8. It is also an excellent choice for books and long structured documents. It is based on up-to-date 32-bit technology and a the printing engine from Corel Draw. The modern user interface is very similar to the recent versions of Corel Draw. So, Adobe needs to do more than they did for this Upgrade to keep Framemaker competitive, esp. they when they charge that much money for it.
