Summary: Do Not By This Product
Review: To borrow the title of an Orson Welles directed movie "It's All True" everything that has been said concerning the problems with this product - the sad part of course is that Symantec knows this product is severely flawed and virtually worthless on many if not most machines. Virtually worthless because when it works it is extraordinarily effective. The rub is that is gets tiresome resetting this software every 24-48 hours. Additionally, the Norton Suite "Norton Internet Security" is an easy match and perhaps exceeds the AntiSpam junkware. After two weeks of back and forth with Symantec I uninstalled Norton Internet Security and reinstalled Norton AntiVirus and Firewall 2003. Both of these products are incredible rip-offs.

Summary: Norton Anti-Spam. Wait till they fix this bug!
Review: Thinking of buying Norton Anti-Spam.
Save your money till they fix this bug.

This program was not released it escaped. If you use outlook
express and pop3 reading your mail, you are in for a world
of pain. This is because there are Spammers out there that
have written messages that lock up Norton Anti-Spam solid.

Here's how the bug works. Inside theses bad Spam messages
the data has been modified to freeze Norton Anti-Spam.

Here's the details. The Spam message is encoded in base 64 and
at the end of the message the Spammer has put in a hex 0 or null.
Norton Anti-spam reads along and runs into this null and Norton
thinks its at the end of the message and freezes.

What good is an anti-spam package when you can't use it to delete Spam.

My work around is to run a perl program over my mail box before
I pop the messages down. It searches the mail spool for nulls
in each message and deletes just the null from the messages.

Wow. If I can do that norton why can't you!!!

Summary: WASTE OF MONEY
Review: Outlook 2002 stops connecting to the mail servers about 20 - 30 minutes after program start when using Antospam 2004. Only solution is a re-boot.

Norton's support is useless.

Summary: Could never connect to email server
Review: I had extremely bad luck with this product. After installation Outlook 2000 could not connect to the server. When I disabled AntiSpam it worked fine. I traded several emails with the support team, but there was very little help or useful insight into what was going on. I have a pretty basic system. Brand new Dell computer and I am using Outlook 2000 and Windows XP. I do have a router between the computer and the cable modem and although I suspected an issue there (and pointed the support personnel to that) there was never any suggestions on how that could be the problem.

Summary: If There Were Less Than One Star, I'd Award It
Review: Do not buy this product. While it advertizes compatibility with Eudora, it is not. It will not recognize Eudora 5.1 address files and subfiles as an "Address Book," even though these are integral functions of Eudora, and suggests in the Symantec "Knowldge Base" [sic] that one reconfigure (hundreds?) of email addresses so that Eudora will work with Norton AntiSpam. The "Knowledge Base" suggests that the email files are "corrupted." This is not what I call "compatible."

Further, when spam addresses are added to the "blocked" list, the program does not block them. Pretty nifty, eh?
Also, the "buttons" for "This is Spam" and "This is not Spam" that appear in the Eurdora toolbar referring to Norton AntiSpam remain gray, that is, unselectable.
I wouldn't even sell this in the "used software" market; I know I would be selling a "lemon" to someone else. It's unfortunate that I spent money on it. Please don't make the same mistake.

Summary: Absolutely Great!
Review: It's an absolutely fantastic program. Out of all the antispam programs I've tried, this is the only one that has worked. I've read other reviews here, and I really don't understand why you people don't like it. It works great! Also, please keep in mind what Anti-Spam software is supposed to do: It is NOT for blocking pop-up ads and websites, it is for filtering e-mail. If you want to block ads, you want Norton Internet Security 2004.

Summary: I truly wish I had read the reviews here before buying!
Review: I use some other Norton products, and have been relatively happy with them. However, the Antispam product is the very worst software I have ever encountered. It seemed to work for about 1 hour, then it crashed Outlook. Fortunately, Outlook has something built in to disable bad add in software, which is just what it did with Norton Antispam. Unfortunately, in the process of disabling Norton Antispam, Outlook also disabled parts Norton AntiVirus - what a mess. Do not expect any help from Norton either. They asked be for $70 to fix there two products. I passed. I had to uninstall both Outlook and Norton AntiVirus then reinstall to make it work again. Buyer Beware of this product.

Review: Faithful follower of Symantec until now but the error Bullock refers to below afflicts me and many others. Symantec wake up and acknowledge you have a problem!!!!

Summary: NAS Debug Error With Outlook 2003
Review: I am using Outlook 2003 (not Outlook express), and have 5 separate accounts set up within Windows for each of my family.

NAS came as part of NIS2004. The Antispam bit is causing me a real headache, so be aware before you buy, here is the issue:

When logging off one Windows account, logging onto another Windows account, and then opening Outlook 2003 I get the following error:

Dialog Heading: Microsoft Visual C++ Debug Library

Debug Error!

Program: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE

abnormal program termination

(Press Retry to debug the application)

I then have to press abort.

When reopening Outlook it gives a message stating that Outlook experienced a serious error the last time that the "norton antispam outlook plugin" was opened. Would you like to disable this add-in?

Outlook then works fine for that user for that session, the problem reoccurs when logging off one Windows account and logging onto another.

Disabling the add-in stops the crashes.

I have only recently installed Windows XP Pro (fresh install), and upgraded to Office 2003 Pro from XP Pro. I had the same problem with antispam under Outlook XP before upgrading.

Summary: Very effective against spam and SO easy to use
Review: Spam was driving me nuts. I tried other antispam software (mostly freeware) and found it not worth the trouble. Norton Antispam filters more than 98% of my spam. Very elegant design--nothing to learn and it couldn't be simpler. This software has made checking my email much less of a chore. I recommend it highly.
