Summary: This program ruin your computer. Avoid.
Review: Do not install this on your computer unless you want everything to go wrong. Meaningless error messages. Unfixable bugs. Everything. I finally gave up after hours of struggling and being told that I would have to rewrite my registery. Norton Antivirus still does not work.

Summary: Symantec, what happened?
Review: From what I have read, there were many activation problems with the previous edition of this software bundle. So why didn't Symantec solve those problems before putting out a new edition? The activation problems I've had with Systemworks 2005 are defenseless and irresponsible. This is a textbook case of customer alienation. Some say the higher the rise, the harder the fall. Symantec apparently had rockets on its back on the way down.

Summary: After 2 months I still cannot activate product
Review: I bought systemworks back in November and I still haven't been able to activate the product. Activating a product is something that you normally take for granted. Usually it's as simple as entering in a license key and you're product is instantly registered and working. Well for me, even after 80 hours on the phone with Norton support, uninstalling and reinstalling the product, cleaning out my registry, installing other product copies, and removing dsl and router firewalls I still can't activate my product! This is absolutely unbelievable! I'm a computer engineer and not a technophobe. How can a company sell a product that cannot be activated? Certainly this issue should have shown up during product QA! Judging by the amount of complaints of this product, I'm not in the minority here. In case this is a causing factor with the installation, I use SBC DSL, and a NetGear router and wouldn't recommend Systemworks 2005 for anyone with this setup.

Summary: Symantec Has Lost A Customer
Review: I have had all their releases going back to the 90's, but after the fiasco of trying to load the NSW 2005 Premier edition, I will no longer buy their products. Also, I am recommending to my company that uses the AV product to dump it too.

This product has so many problems and bugs that a lawsuit should be brought against Symantec.

I went to this product on Symantec's recommedation (yes I stayed on the phone 3 1/2 hours waiting for a human voice at their Help Desk, I even had a priority number) after their Common Client (NSW 2004)live update in December caused major problems with my PC. I thought it was a problem with my PC (DELL XPS, XPSP2, 2G) and called Dell Support Desk who told me it was NSW 2004 problem. Dell recommended that I go with McAffee instead of Norton. Dell has be hearing that there are a lot of problems with the 2004 and 2005 products.

Don't buy this product, and Amazon should not offer it because it is so bad.

Summary: I like the program I say go for premier
Review: I have used Norton system Works for quite a number of years, and recently bought this as an upgrade from 2003 professional version. I haven't had any real problems...

But I would recommend going with Premier version over the standard version. You do get Norton ghost, which is a powerful program for backing up your critical data. For me. I would much rather by system works than the antivirus because it is not too much more. And you get so much more!

One thing to note, I love clean sweep is a great program for cleaning up your hard drive and Internet temp files but when you do the normal installation of system works. For some strange reason it doesn't install it. So make sure to use the advanced tab. When installing so that you can have clean sweep installed just an FYI.

Other than that all-around decent program good applications. Good virus protection and doesn't put a real strain on resources from my point of view running on 2 GHz processor.

Peace out

Summary: You guys were right ...
Review: I read all the negative reviews and ordered anyway, because I've always protected my computers with Norton products and it was time to renew. Holy cow. I apologize for assuming you were all idiots who just couldn't follow installation instructions. The BEST I've been able to debug now leaves me with three ambiguous error messages to cancel every time I start my computer. "Norton does not support the repair feature. Please uninstall and reinstall the program." OK. WHAT program (times three)? I've uninstalled and reinstalled all the Norton components to no avail. I've uninstalled and reinstalled all my Office 2003 programs to no avail. I don't want my money back. I don't even want my wasted time back. But I'd sure like to have my computer back. Thanks to Norton, Outlook now downloads at least 10 copies of each e-mail from my server, and all my programs run so slowly I feel like I'm back at the keyboard of my first 286!

Summary: Not scared by bad reviews!
Review: I read all the negative reviews for this product and almost didn't upgrade from NSW 2003. But I like a challenge I guess! I have a Compaq Presario 3045 notebook Win XP SP2 60 Gig HD with 1 Gig ram. I have running NSW 2003 for two years with no problems, but my subscription was up so I purchased the 2005 edition. The install was a little slow but by following the supplied instructions there was absolutly no problems with install. I did not install the "GO Back" feature or "Check It" and I did not let the program disable the Windows firewall. Also I don't use "System Monitor". I have been using most every feature of the systemworks for a couple of weeks now and have not encountered any problems. I recomend the upgrade.

Summary: Useful and trouble-free so far
Review: I've had good experiences with Norton products, and a friend recommended upgrading to SystemWorks 2005. The installation horror stories I read here gave me some second thoughts, but I bought it anyway. My installation and activation were smooth and uneventful - everything worked on the first try. I haven't noticed any system slow-downs, either. My friend has had some annoying hassles with reactivating it after major system upgrades, but I don't expect to encounter that any time soon. One disappointment - I had 4 months left on my Norton AntiVirus subscription, which were superceded by the new one-year SystemWorks subscription.

Summary: Pay to upgrade and then lose functionality and speed????
Review: The 2005 upgrade is pretty much garbage. You lose Password Manger, and overall PC speed goes down using the new version. Oh to have my money back again.

Summary: Works ok
Review: Well being that my Norton 2003 AV was about to expire and that I received this product as a gift, I decided to upgrade. After reading the difficulties of installing this and the stand-alone antivirus not sure what their problems are.

What I did was first run Windows Update to make sure I had all of the WinXp SP2 updates. Reboot, let it run for a bit to test. Then I removed the older Norton Anti-virus, rebooted and tested the machine for stability. Then I put the disk in and installed it. Rebooted. Tested it. Rebooted again. Working ok for me. Ran the Liveupdate, worked ok.

If this wasn't a gift I would have either just renewed my 2003 subscription or buy the standalone AV product. The rest of the items were overkill for me and I have removed them.
