Rating: Summary: Great Performance, Controls could be more ergonomic. Review:
I'm very happy with this player. Performance is excellent, but my only complaint is that the controls could be a little more ergonomic. I am able to feel my way to the buttons when the player is in my pocket, by virtue of the raised dots on the play button and the volume up button. I've grown accustomed to this, and it's actually not a problem. But I've noticed that the new generation of Sony CD Walkmans emulate the iPod as much as they can - they have a centralized button set, located on the center of the door face. I imagine this makes working the controls by feel a little easier.
Rating: Summary: Flimsy, Not Worth The Money Review: As many have said, this is a very nice CD/MP3 Walkman.Pros + Very solid and reliable, in a small package. + The battery life is amazing. I use NiMH batteries, and they last for days. + Very nice full sound. + If you hit the Stop button, it powers down in 10 seconds. When you power back up, it remembers the spot where you left off, even in the middle of a cut. I like this feature a lot, as I listen to a lot of recorded messages. + It's a Sony! They're always great. + It WILL play MP3Pro files, and they sound great, even though MP3Pro is not necessarily supported. Cons - Display is ridiculously small. I don't know what Sony is thinking on this one. If you want a similar Sony CD walkman with a very good display, try Sony's Psyc® ATRAC® CD Walkman® D-NF400PSGRAY (check Sony website). I wish I knew about that one before buying this one. - By default beeps with every button press and beeps constantly on Pause. However, this CAN be easily disabled, as documented in the instructions. - EXTREMELY slow FF and RW functions. This is irritating if you want to skip forward or backward in an extended recording. Further observation I haven't tried the SonicStage software, based on the very negative reviews here. I'm using MusicMatch Jukebox Plus, encoding everything MP3Pro 96 khz with great success. Overall, I'm very pleased with this player. Yeah, you need an electron microscope to read the display -- but beyond that it's great.

Rating: Summary: Flimsy, Not Worth The Money Review: I bought a new D-NE509 a while ago, and when I hadn't even owned it for two weeks, it suddenly stopped working. I've consulted the instructions, and none of the valid reasons as to why it would read "NO DISC" when there was a disc in place were present. This item had not been under any stressful elements and was brand-new when I bought it from Target in the Mid-West. I'm currently rounding up the cheap headphones that also came with it and plan on returning it very soon--and not for another one! It also makes very loud rustling noises. Sony should be better than this, and I have switched back to the cd player/walkman I had been using for two years. Dysfunction aside, this cd player is too big for the little capabilities it does provide. It is too large to hold easily in your hand, nor to slip into a jacket pocket or a front pocket on a hoodie. You'd think it would have a large screen, but instead it doesn't. I've seen much smaller MP3 players that display more than this does. If you're interested in hearing your music and nothing else, this would be the item to choose. But if you want actual options, then get something better.

Rating: Summary: PRETTY SATISFIED Review: I did lots of research to get the perfect mp3/cd player. I think this player fit my criteria and gives the most value for money among any other cd players. Compared to my panasonic which i used nearly 4 yrs. It seems so much bettter... long battery life...good sound quality..only thing i dont like is that it takes a long time to read my mp3 cds which i didnt burn with sonic stage. Also when forwarding and rewinding it makes a loud tinny annoying sound besides making it annoying.. a remote would have been much nicer..BUT OVERALL A BIG THUMBS UP..SO FAR SO GOOD....... vikas
Rating: Summary: Beware Review: I dont understand this at all.I have always been a big fan of amazon so far.The ad (on amazon) for this discman said it is 99 bucks and now it is being sold at 59 bucks, that is a net saving of 40 bucks. But this is not true sony actually lists this product at 59$.So there is no net savings involved at all.Infact every sony product listed on this page is overpriced and the price slashing is just a farce. Why is this?.To check this out see the prices on sony.com
Rating: Summary: Amazing player. Review: I have always loved Sony. My previous CD player was from them and it lasted me two years, it still works just slightly broken. But Sony has that power to make a great lasting cd player. And the ability to have 490 songs on a cd is great. The sound quality is nearly perfect. Even with the antiskip feature off the cd player still needs alot of impact to skip. But with everything that is good, there are the downsides. The cds take awhile to make as it is either 48kps or 64kps. But it is definitly worth it. I give this cd player 5 stars. And it deserves every one of them. Go and buy it. Well worth the money.
Rating: Summary: A great deal Review: I read lots of reviews conserning other CD-mp3 players. Most of them did match this Sony player. By far the batt. life is much greater than others. I have had mine for three weeks and I have used it everyday. The batteries are still working. The sound is great. With the factory headphones I can hear my music with greater definition than with any stereo that I own. It would be nice to have a larger display and to beable to light it. However this is not a problem if you take the time to set up directories when you burn a CD. This makes searching quite easy. The ATRAC3PLUS format works well on the player but it takes forever to convert the files and there is no way to save progress. It took my P733 processor seven hours to set up one CD with Sony's format. However, the format can be very nice because with it you can fix a ton of music on one disk. I have almost 30 CDs on one ATRAC disk. I am totaly pleased with my purchase and I sujest that you look at reviews concerning many different players before buying one. Good Luck!
Rating: Summary: poor ergonomics Review: I wanted to specifically discuss the ergonomics of this device. I use this thing at my desk at work. The buttons on this thing are a bad combination of having too shallow a profile, being too small and requring such a force that I find I can't depress the buttons in a one-handed operation without the thing sliding across the desk. Thus I end up having to use two hands - one to hold the thing and other to depress the button. The lcd is unreadable from a distance beyond 12 inches or so. The small size, poor contrast and typical office lighting glare result in not even bothering to read it or having to get up close and personal. And another thing, when the pause is enabled it beeps once a second - very annoying. Wanted 3.5 stars but rounded up since it was a good price and the sound is very good.
