Summary: Best part it shows ID tags
Review: I just got this portable, and it works better than expected (and at a better price than expected)!! This is one of the first devices actually available (not vaporware like others) that has the ability to show ID tags for the songs. This portable scrolls the name of the artist, album, and song on its LCD screen while playing. You can also search the ID tags for songs you are looking for... and you can easily jump between albums and artists. Having a lot of buttons helps make things easier. The negatives are that the unit does not remember where you were last listening on the disc. On a normal CD that is not a problem, but when you have 150 songs or so on the disc, it would be nice to have it return to where you were. This units starts from the first song on the disc each time. Other negatives are the small LCD (without a backlight) and the fact that albums and artists are not shown full length (it is in ISO9660 format) when you are toggling between albums and artists. But, these are minor problems considering the price and the overall good operation.

Summary: Most Bang for Your Buck
Review: After reading these reviews I decided to buy both the Phillips Expandium and Memorex to compare the two. I was pleasantly surprised (mainly for financial reasons) that the Memorex for superior in all but a few categories. This unit has ID3 tagging, which is great for finding your MP3's quick on the CD (there's a album, artist, or track search feature). I do recommend using Adaptec's Easy CD Creator to make MP3 CD's. The player has read every MP3 without fail. The unit is light and easy to use, although getting aquainted with the buttons is a little tricky at first. The only complaint I have is the anit-skip mechanism. I bought this mainly to bring with me to the gym, and after I used it today, it skipped almost 20 times in 30 minutes, and that was just placing it on the machine (where I noticed other people were placing there's with no problem). It works great in the car, but so far I've been disappointed with it's performance elsewhere. Overall it's great though. You just have to be patient with the MP3 feature. It takes about 20-30 seconds until the CD is ready to play, which can be frustrating. Once it's ready to go though, there's no better player out there right now. It's WELL worth it!

Summary: A Big Bang for Your Buck
Review: WOW! This is the most economically priced player of its kind and caliber out on the market. It plays the beloved mp3 format and CD RW! These two put together in one player usually costs a hundred dollars more. With the 45 second antiskip I listen to my music without any disturbances. Also, since one disc can hold more than a hundred mp3's the ability to locate the song you want to listen to according to its title is great! This prevents you from having to memorize the songs according to their track numbers like normal CD players. Well, this isn't your typical CD player since it is a multimedia player. I use it when I workout because I can listen to one disc full of mp3's for several hours. If you still have a cassette player in your car, it's car ready! If you're going to purchase any portable media device, this is the one. It's the best priced for what it can do, and the quality of this product is dependable. The only thing average about the player is it's battery life.

Summary: Not a review, but a request for definition of terms
Review: Please indulge me, as someone looking at this product as a potential gift for someone else; what do the terms "MBR", "ID3 tags", and "multisession discs", as used in the reviews, mean? My rating obviously is meaningless but I had to fill in something to post this inquiry.

Summary: sound quality not very good
Review: I wanted to buy an MP3 cd player for a while, bought this one soon after it was available at amazon.

My first impression was it is a little thick. When I turned it on, I felt a little disappointment: the sound quality is not very good. I am not a die-hard music fan wanting good sound quality desperately, but I can clearly feel the difference compared with what I used to hear. I compared it with my three-year old Sony diskman playing CD and MP3 playing from my desktop, clearly this player lags behind. Memorex is not known for high quality of its products, guess that's what this player offers. Aiwa has an MP3 CD player, maybe I should try the Philips one, but it is much more expensive than Memorex.

Summary: Good quality for Great Price
Review: Generally, I am having great fun with this product: It is cheap, functional and enjoyable. Great for long car trips and flights

I do have some problems, with my MP3 cds, I am encountering a file limit of some sort. The device would read some files, but not read all of it, like a 200 file limit. And it seems the limit is arbitrary, and I cannot find out if it is a size limit, a file number or directory limit....

These are just individual problems, maybe. But I would recommend this product, despite its beta 1.0 feel and look.

Summary: Can't beat it
Review: I just got mine and wanted to let others know some of the great features on this underpriced powerhouse. You know it has ID3, but what does that mean? Well if the MP3 is encoded correctly, you can see the: Title, Album, Artist and more. It scrolls across the display as you listen to the song. The specs say that it will only play files that are encoded up to 128kbps, but this thing will play anything! I have listened to multiple songs encoded at 160, 192 and 256. Just burn it and enjoy the tunes. The bass boost really gives it a kick and the headphones they provide aren't cheap crap like you normally get. It doesn't skip at all and plays CDRW's without a hitch. The only complaint I have is I would make the display backlit (so you can see what you're listening to in the dark), but that's the only thing I have found lacking. Dollar for dollar, there's nothing like this on the market.

Summary: Don't spend another penny
Review: This is a great player for the $. It's the best valued portable CD player on the market and with the benefit of MP3, you cannot beat it. This anti-skip is excellent. I could not make it skip. Don't spend more for other MP3 CD players, this one is all you need. Don't bother buying a regular CD player, with the flexibility of MP3 CD players, a regular CD player is obsolete.

Summary: Inexpensive and excellent player !!
Review: I have been thinking about getting Phillips Expanium MP3-CD player (..) . Then I found this product from this website.I was just about to order when I saw an ad in the Sunday newspaper yesterday. ... at the Target Store. Not bad . So I bought one from there yesterday.

It comes with a car kit as well as AC adapter and headphone. When I got home, I inserted one of my MP3 disks. Sound was great but the player could not read all the files and it skips some files. I tried the other disks and did the same thing. Disappointed, I was ready to return it. But I stopped by Good Guys first and have them try my disks with their Phillips Expanium demo unit. Expanium did the same thing ! It could not read all the files (read only 91 MP3 files out of 190 files). So I thought hmmm.. maybe the disks not the players that make bad reading.

So I came back home without returning it. Instead of 10X speed burning, I tried slower 4X this time. Still same errors. Then I remembered someone saying some of those MP3-CD players do not work well if the MP3 disks are prepared with "Direct CD" software. So this time I used "Easy CD Creator Ver 3.5" with 10X speed. Hey !! All of a sudden, my problems were all gone. This unit read and played all the mp3 files. NEVER USE "DIRECT CD" SOFTWARE FOR THIS PLAYER !! It won't work.

It reads sub directories and can do file search, directory search, fast forward and reverse search. Random, repeat (within subdirectory or entire files), 10sec introduction for each song, program play. And it's very easy to use with those nice little buttons.

As I said, sound quality is good. Get a better headphone. It will be better. So far I have not tried with batteries. It says 4-7 hours. I connected the line out jack to my Sony Home Theater Receiver. Sound is great. I also tried it in the car. It just works great too.

I dropped it on the floor( not on purpose ) . The disk popped out. I put it back and no problem. I think even ... is still a good buy !

I would strongly recommend this product.

Summary: Something I have been waiting for!!!
Review: If you have a CD burner you would agree with me that buying a MP3 player was pretty much a waste of money. But most of yall probley have the same idea that Memorex created. I thought it would never been done, but it did. Today I bought this product and I never looked back. Its a great MP3 CD-R player which includes a LCD display of the files of their ID3 tag. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because it does not support playing multisession CDs. But it does support all bitrate up to 192 (thats the highest MP3 bitrate I have in my collection). It even has a find file feature where you put keywords and find songs through each file's ID3 tag. Overall a great product and this is just the beginning on MP3 CD players!
