Summary: BE WARNED
Review: I just opened this thing 11 hours ago, and here are the problems I've had:

-frequent skips, even when the player is not jarred or jolted

-shoddy, light construction

-the worst, most confusing controls I've ever seen

-you can hardly see the LCD

-skips for no reason every 30 seconds or so, if you are using batteries

-sometimes you press a button, and nothing happens

-it's so picky with files it will read that by the time you've fixed all of your mp3's to work with it, it will be tomorrow

-it somehow found 193 songs on my cd that had 145 songs

-the manual is obviously written by people that live where the manual was printed: in China (If you're Chinese, don't be offended. I am half Chinese myself. Still, this manual is written in English so bad that I laughed out loud.)

-the delay when skipping one song (e.g. skipping from track 3 to track 4) can be anywhere from 5 seconds to 35 seconds, and it's usually around 25 or 26 seconds

Are there any upsides to this product? Sure. There's nice accessories, good bass boost, ID3 support, and... well, I guess that's it. Oh, I almost forgot. It's flimsy and lightweight, so it will be cheaper to ship it back to Amazon.com.

Summary: From bad to great
Review: Read this Review for your own good!! This mp3 cd player periodically skips on any mp3's above 128 kbps bitrate. It will also periodically skip every 10 seconds if there is a mixed bitrate on the cd for example some of your mp3's are 128, and some are 96, and some are 64 bitrates. So All i have on my cds are 128 bitrate encoded and it works perfect without skipping till about 20 minutes, (which i think is because one of my cds is scratched up). So if you have music with different bit rates, do not buy this product. I recommend 128 kbps because it is the highest bitrate this cd player can handle and if all your songs are this bitrate, this product will suit you. Otherwise you are in for a lot of messed up music quality. All music is great under same bit rate (on one cd) and a bit rate 128 kbps or lower. It also Does not take multisession cds but this does not change my opinion on the product cause it reads my cdrw's fine!

Summary: Love turned to Hate
Review: At first when I got this CD player I thought it would solve all my remaining portable audio problems. I currently burn CD-RW's in standard CD Audio format and use my regular Philips CD player that reads CD-RWs. This was great because I could erase the CD and start over again and again. I then got this new Memorex player so I could put 300 Mp3s on a CD instead of 20 tracks on a CD. I also picks this one over it's compeditors because it reads ID3 tags. WHen I got the player I noticed it only got 3 hours of play time. This stunk compared to the almost 15 hours I got on my Phililps CD-RW player. I bit the bullet and accepted the power loss. I burned a CD a played it. When I put it in it took a long time to finally recognize and read it. It began to play the first track but then skipped 20 seconds into it. I switched tracks but then noticed it took an even longer time to simply go between tracks. I tried to pgram the tracks in a certain order but the controls are extremely aukward and franky impossible to work correctly especially while driving. The unit is also bulky itself and much larger than my other player. As for it's predicted good points, it did't mount up to them. The famed ID3 tag reader it has rather primitive. When scrolling through tracks it only shows the first six letters of the entire song name (Artist-Title). This makes it impossible to quickly scroll through tracks. By the time the slow-scrolling ID3 tag finally moveds across the "Non-Backlit" screen the song is well on it's way being played. Pretty redundant feature, huh. Anyway. I wouldn't recomend getting any Mp3-CD player yet. Everyone of them has too many bugs to be worked out yet. Wait a while and save your money for a player that is worth it.

Summary: Not too bad thus far
Review: I just got this product for Christmas so, before I get into it,there may be things that I won't find out until I have time to playwith it for a few weeks. Also, as the other reviews mention"Suffix A" and the standard unit, I do have a Stuffix Amodel. Like the other reviews, I also encounted the same 200 filelimit. I'm playing with it to see if there is a backway around it, butthus far none. Overall though considering this is the first of thetime of device, it is pretty good. Comparing this to other portablemp3 players- it hold ALOT more. (CDs are around 650MB while mostportable mp3 players are around 32-96MB). Also, the ability to playstandard CDs helps add to the selling power of this device.... Again, compared to mp3 players - it's cheaper. One of the downside of thisdevice compared to mp3 players is that it does have moving parts so itcan not claim the ability to absorb shock as mp3 players can. (A lastside note: So far after an hour- I have yet to have it pause whileplaying an mp3 CD). Overall- a good buy.

Summary: Skips can't be tolerated
Review: Similar to what a reviewer mentioned, this unit is very unstable and susceptible to minor jolts/shocks, particularly those you'll encounter when driving. Perhaps I also have a defective unit...it's definitely not a revised version like another reviewer mentioned. Can anyone give any more information on the "Suffix A" revision? I'm about to return mine and go on a hunt for the revision. I phoned Memorex support, but they were oblivious as to any revision of this unit. If you're planning on doing any type of remotely mobile activity while using this unit, I'd recommend against purchasing it, unless you can find the revision already mentioned. If I can get this resolved, I'll up my rating (I hope that's possible, I'm new here) ;)

Summary: The Next Big Thing!!
Review: MP3 CD players are going to be the next big thing - i think that memorex is poised to make it self a leader, with complete id3tag support directory and file browsing and search and much more - I have yet to have a problem with this excellent product my top recommendation to buy - and at the best price on the market!

Summary: Unbelievable!
Review: I'm now randomly listening to my Beatles MP3 CD on the Memorex MPD8505CP. (Every officially released Beatles track, 447 songs on 2 CD's!) It sounds great, reads ID3's, comes with an adapter, headphones, and complete car kit for 89 bucks at Target! Of course it has some programming idiosyncrasies, but for my 89 bucks, it's perfect, and I'm in MP3-Beatles heaven!

Summary: My Thoughts on MPD8505CP
Review: After using this CD/MP3 for over a week and reading some of the posts here regarding this player let me make some recommendations regarding using this playe, especially for people who are having problem with this player.

SUMMARIES OF THIS PLAYER PROS 1. Price it's an incredible price for what you get 2. Battery life - play at least 4-5 hours of MP3 with a pair Rechargeable Ni-MH batteries (not supplied by Memorex) 3. Read ID3 Tags and supports sub-directories 4. 45 second ESP shock protection 5. Reads CDR and CDRW 6. Acceptable sound quality 7. Read MP3 files up to 192 kbp (even though the manual says up to 128 kbp) 8. TRUE random file play

CONS 1. Awkard user interface 2. Even more awkard manual (I am ashamed of its English - Chinese is my first language too!) 3. No backlight 4. Resume doesn't work if the player powered down 5. Does not support 256 kbp files

MUST READ SECTION 1. If you are having problem with frequent clicks, skipping in the middle of playing, or skipping with MINIMUM shaking - return the player - it's defective. That's what happened to my first player. I returned it and get the second one which is a REVISED edition (if you flip the player over you will see a little sticker that says Suffix A which means it's a revised edition). Skipping while shaking is all eliminated and clicks/skips while playing is greatly reduced (though not 100% gone) 2. Thoroughly test your MP3 files on your computer first to make sure they don't contain pops and clicks. 3. Make sure you DO NOT use DIRECT CD to burn your MP3 disc - this has been mentioned before many times 4. EasyCD Creator is simply NOT a good program to use to burn MP3 because EasyCD only supports ISO-9660 Level 1 format which only supports 8 characters. Burn your disc with NERO 4.0 or NERO 5.0 which supports ISO-9660 LEVEL 2. Basically ISO9660 level 2 format supports file name longer than 8 characters. With ISO-9660 Level 2 my MPD8505CP displays the first 12 characters of the file name w/o any file name artifact associated with ISO-9660 level 1 + Joliet. This is the solution to file name problems people are having. 5. Currently I have not have experience with 700MB CDR or CDRW; once I test that I will post my thoughts

Summary: Excellent, inexpensive MP3 player!
Review: I've finally made the commitment and entered into the world of portable MP3 players; I absolutely recommend it to anyone with a CD recorder. At 650mb of memory, it's an unbeatable bargain. And with the ability to also play CD-RW's, there's nearly infinite ways to arrange your music on this gem. I shopped endlessly for an affordable MP3 player, but I was reluctant to pay for a measly 32mb-64mb.

The playback quality may not be the same as your regular CD player; that's the nature of MP3's and compressed music. And the trade off is well worth the slight loss of perfection. Most people won't even notice the difference.

The player itself seems a little flimsy, but it has worked flawlessly. The controls are confusing, and the instructions hardly help. Once you get used to it though, the ability to read a song's title in its ID3 tags is a lifesaver. I can't imagine searching through over 150 songs on a disc without the ability to read the song's title. I also organized my CD's into about 15 directories, and named each directory a genre of music or an album title.

I have a first generation iMac (rev. A), and a Sony USB Spressa CD-RW. I'm also using Memorex CD-RW's and have had none of the problems mentioned in all of the other reviews. Memorex has made a solid, cheap MP3 CD player. It's not perfect, but it does work.

Summary: WOW
Review: Seems like they rushed this out the door for the christmas season. It shows in the documentation and the need for more QA. BUT.... This product is a dream come true if you get to know its little drawbacks cause there is a way around most of them. FILE ORDER - Files are ordered by their DOS name. CDs can be burned as either Julliet or ISO9660 but the files will only be displayed as ISO9660. WHATS WITH THE PRICE (CHEAP)! Very impressed by this product, - but if you are a perfectionist wait for the next iteration although it'll probably be more expensive. I love the car adapter.
