Summary: Plays good, but features lacking.
Review: I wanted just a CD player for some extensive lesson material in the new (to me) MP3 format. It was necessary that the player be able to stop and restart ("resume") within any location in that material. This unit would not do it. And the "technical data" info was lacking in this information. This unit still did an acceptable job in playing the data, music too, but not with the level of control that I needed.

Review: Pros: Many features for the money (AM/FM, Plays CDs, MP3s, WMAs, etc). Displays the most information about a MP3 song on the 4x16 character display for a BoomBox Ive seen advertised. With the remote it is easy to navigate and pick the songs you want. With the MusicMatch software you can display more information about the MP3 song and sort playlists by Artist, Title, Album, or Genre.

Cons: Onboard buttons feel cheap and you have to steady the unit to push them without moving the unit backwards. Sounds poor without using the various equalizer options (I have to experiment for each environment loud, soft, far, near, song type, etc). The thump between songs is annoying when playing music softly. It is sensitive to CD-R quality and skips when moved.

MP3 Tech: In File/Folder mode it displays the 1st 15 characters of the file/folder name to allow song selection. (Dont name your folders The Best Songs of because you will only see The Best Songs for each folder.) When playing a song it displays 32 characters (scrolling) of the filename and 16 characters each of Artist and Album from the ID3V1 tags. Never displays ID3V1 Title tag content, just the filename without .mp3. In SmartTrax mode it displays the information the MusicMatch software places in .mau playlist files for Artist, Title, Album, and Genre. See the manual

Summary: Could Have Been a Contender
Review: Sadly I am returning the second of these for the same defect. I was pleased with the capabilities of the unit. I can't however, overlook it's one shortcoming. Both units I tried produced an audible "thump" between tracks. This occurred with MP3 discs, and regular CD's, purchased or "burned". When hooked to an amplifier this was especially annoying. Audio playback units are not supposed to introduce audible signals of their own.

Summary: For I Wanted it
Review: The RCA RCD128 is just what I am expecting, a mp3 player to hear music in a close place with my girlfriend all night long. I am not interested in a huge or boombox equipment, but for I wanted it, just to hear the music that I download for the net without taking all the computer to a place and another.

-------------- S P A N I S H --------------

Summary: Run Away Screaming!
Review: The unit was defective when received. The pushbutton to open the CD player door only works about 1% of the time. I had to push the door away from the latch mechanism in order to get it to release. Also, a 'thump' comes from the speakers every time the unit starts to play the first song on a CD and again at the beginning of all the rest of the songs. This is true regardless if the CD is a commercial product, a computer burned CD-R with .cda files or a commercial CD with MPEG encoded files on it.

Summary: Good Player
Review: This is a good mp3 cd player. I like the remote control, and even though it isn't very portable, if you want a portable cd player, then buy a portable cd player. The speakers are good and can get semi loud. I recomend it highly.

-note-it doesn't have a backlight which can be annoying at times.
