Rating: Summary: Great sound and battery life, but durability needs work Review: It's been about 10 years since I bothered with a portable CD player, so I looked for one with a good combination of sound quality, battery life, playback features, and durability. I based my choice of this player in part on good experience with other Philips products, and in part on others' ratings of the product. (Having that Amazon promotional gift certificate helped too....)When I received the player, I was indeed pleased with the sound quality and the playback features. The included headphones had a tinny quality, but I intended to use this through my home stereo quite a bit, and it did well for that. And in any case I had another set of headphones I preferred to use, and it sounded great with those. The various playback modes (shuffle, repeat, program, scan) leave nothing wanting. The included rechargeable battery lasted at least 18 hours between charges, very impressive. I tried high-capacity AAs once and got probably 40 hours of playback out of them (using the included battery box that doubles the player's battery capacity from 2 AA to 4 AA). This was the first CD player I've used with anti-skip protection, and that was a pleasant surprise. I never did manage to make a CD skip, in any playback mode. It worked fine through walking, running, cycling, mowing lawns, driving, all of it -- no skips, no pauses of any kind. And it worked with heavily scratched CDs, or CDs that would result in skips on my car stereo CD player or my home player. The downside? This unit is not very durable. It looks good, feels like it can survive just about anything. But the lid is held in place but two small plastic nubs that, if broken, render the thing useless. Just under one month after I received it, the lid snapped clean off when I was changing CDs. This is a good unit, but if durability is of any concern at all, think carefully before you choose this player. By all means be extremely careful when you open the device.
Rating: Summary: Top Name, Top Quality! Review: Not only is Philips Magnavox a top brand name, it is also known for quality. The main things I like about this cd player was the bass. You have three stages of bass and the second stage is about as much as you get with other cd players, but this has one more to give you even more! Another thing I like about the cd player, is it's 45 second ESP. A 10-20 ESP will get you by, but if you are active as me, a 45 second ESP will give you un-skipped music, 24/7. The extra battery pack you get with the player makes it so you can play for over 40 hours, what other cd player has over 20??? The music quality is excellent! One flaw that I had was the headphones, two days after I received the cd player, they stopped working, I don't know why, but if you do decide to buy this cd player, buy another set, the headphones were good, but not lasting. You will not go wrong on this purchase.

Rating: Summary: It's good. Review: Ok, yes, this player does have a great anti-skip protection...however,I find it hard to justify the cost. . . for a CD player withOUT a digital optical outlet! I mean, come on, this isn't the mid-90's here! We have been able to purchase CD players with this amount of anti-skip protection for a while now, and at much lower prices. So, do yourself a favor, if you are looking for a CD player that will be able to perform up-to-par in the future, then look elsewhere. Also, if you are looking for the same anti-skip protection...you can look to a cheaper model for the same amount.

Rating: Summary: Philips CD Players sound better Review: There are many reasons to buy a Philips CD player, but the most important one is that they sound much better than every other brand I've tried. You may read or hear that all CD players sound the same, but it isn't true at all. There are significant, audible differences between different brands and models and Philips CD players just sound better. If you're doubtful, just play one of your favorite CDS in a Philips and in any other brand; you'll hear the difference. The headphones which come with the player are OK, but if you get a pair of Sennheiser headphones, you'll hear how good these CD players really are!
Rating: Summary: WOW ... IT DOESN'T SKIP! Review: There are so many other players out there that claim they have skip protection, but Phillips is the real deal. My friends have other brands that are the same value (45) of skip protection, but they still complain of skips when running and what not. Well this cd player not only works skipless when I run, it doesn't skip in my car either. Now granted there are SOME instances like going over bumpy train tracks too hard, then it will definitely skip. I had my expensive deck cd player stolen so I bought this until I get a new car, and my deck (installed) cd player skipped more than this one does ... go figure. Definitely worth it if you plan on putting it in your car.
