Summary: A Big Disappointment
Review: I've read all the reviews here, which convinced me to buy it, and they are pretty much right on the money. However, one thing I keep reading is "sounds great." Well, I didn't think so. There was NOT enough volume in it at all! It was loud enough to listen to, but not enough to be IN YOUR FACE!... which is how I love listening to my music. Oh yeah, and this is with the AVLS off (the automatic volume leveling to protect your hearing). I don't need a cd player to decide how loud my music should sound. It should be deafening when on max, then let ME decide to turn it down. Heck, I have a COBY MP3/CD player that sounds way better than this thing. Who cares about features, the sound is what matters.

I'm very disappointed; I expected better from Sony.

Summary: Excellent Player!
Review: It won't play CD-R/RW's anymore. I don't know why. It just keeps spinning the disc really fast and doesn't do anything. I got frustrated and pounded it... it broke. NO CD player I've had has ever broken because of a simple hit. Not even my ANCIENT Sony Discman. I broke it. Boo Hoo. A waste ... after 10 months use... I've gotten more use out of my 5 year old Discman. This thing really ruined my impression on Sony. One time, it spun a CD-R for so long before I stopped it that it ripped the film off the top of the CD, therefore making it useless. So disappointing. I hope not everyone has this problem.

Summary: Finally Sony gets a clue
Review: It's a Sony. It plays MP3s. Battery life is fantastic, and it takes plain 'AA' cells you can buy anywhere. Anti-skip is perfectly adequate for walking and the occasional jog across the street or run to catch a bus. Plus, it has enough output power to drive a set of in-ear headphones to painful ear-damaging volume levels.

Works fine with all the CD-Rs and CD-RWs I've burnt with my QPS burner; maybe lafnsam is using no-name CDs. (Why, when TDKs are so iinexpensive?)

Only two downsides to this player: The supplied headphones are worthless (a common problem with portables), and there's noticable hiss during silence. Still, it's great.

Summary: Beware! Store bought CD's play fine, but CD-R's may not!
Review: Sony warns that this player may have difficulty with some CD-R and CD-RW disks, as well as with some CD writers. I happen to have burned quite a few disks with a QPS disk burner (on 3 different brands of CD-R) and none of them will work in this player without skipping a lot, MP3 disks and standard CD format. The funny thing is that the same burned disks that have standard CD tracks play perfectly well on the the Sony D-F200 and D-E350 portable players. Go figure. Anyways, try to demo one of these with the media that you use or buy from a place that is easy to return things without a restocking fee. Also, sound level is a little low, probably because Sony doesn't include their usual selectable volume limiter on this model.

Summary: Highly recommended
Review: The player comes fully equipped including a car kit. Its screen is tiny - not like the one the more recent and expensive devices have, but it can display all the MP3 information. It allows you to jump by folders and to play files from one folder randomly (you'd better keep all the folders on the same level). It can also play all the files on the disk randomly, though it may repeat the same song from time to time. It perfectly keeps the paused point at any disk! I never have a problem with this even though I switch off the car without prior switching off the device. Just have two batteries inside it even if you like me almost never use it on batteries.

All together the player is very good for the money and highly recommended.

Summary: great CD and mp3 player
Review: This has the best sound I've ever heard on CD's and mp3's. it plays them great at 128k. I hear little details in each song that I couldn't hear otherwise. the cd quality, on the other hand is even more outstanding. When burning CD's be careful to use the right burning format, also, make sure to do it in disk at once, otherwise it will split each song into 5, but if it's done right, it works flawlessly, I've never had a problem with it. The batteries last as long as sony says they do, but my only complaint is that the CD stops when the an mp3 is going, and when the song is over, it has to start spinning to read it again, and it takes too long to switch songs with low batteries, but its a lot faster with brand new ones. This thing is great, I get all my songs from the internet, and burn 200 of them onto a cd. Its incredbly easy to navigate if you put the songs in folders, like the bands.

Summary: Really good
Review: This is a great cd player, and it has all the features needed to play just about anything you throw at it, like mp3 discs, cd audio, and cdr/rw's. I enjoy it very much and will recommend this to music fans with a cd burner (for making mp3-cds).
