Summary: Minor Problems
Review: I've had my 250 for about 3 months and I love most everything about it. BUT there are a few problems I'm having with the MP3 discs I'm making. If you burn a MP3 CD with more than 255 tracks (think audiobooks at 64kbps) and you create a playlist to make sure you hear it in order the player will stop after the 255th track. Not a major problem I'll admit but I drive cross-country a lot and I was hoping to cut down my CD luggage when travelling. The other problem is when you fill a 700MB CDR (any brand--I've tried 6 different) and use a playlist the player will not even boot up--It just goes back to the POWER ON screen and stays there unless you go to the radio. The player has worked well other than these 2 prob's ---Sounds Great/Works Great with Audio CD's and the separate Line Out jack is great for plugging into my home stereo. I've heard customer support is in the toilet but until it stops working completely, I'm cool

Summary: This thing is awesome!
Review: This has got to be the best MP3/CD player on the market. It's not cheap, but it's worth the money. This thing has more features than anything I've ever seen! You can customize it any way you want. It also plays WMA files. Look carefully at other top players, most of them do not play WMA files. I've only had the SP250 for two weeks, but it has surpassed my expectations. The sound quality can't be beat, and the volume control is very gradual so you can pick the exact volume you want to hear. The backlit display shows tons of information. This thing comes with the most accessories I've ever seen, minus the car kit which I don't need. I don't jog, but this thing still has not skipped even once. I used EZ CD Creator to burn MP3's at 8X speed on a CD-RW, and it has absolutely no problem reading the files. The earbud headphones are great, but wouldn't use the fold-up kind. The carrying case is very nice. The AC adapter and rechargeable batteries are a must. I wouldn't have bought this if it didn't come with an AC adapter. I have read some reviews in which some of the SP250's just quit working. ...I got the extended 2-year warranty because of that. Too bad this isn't made in Japan like Panasonic, then you wouldn't have to worry about it. As long as this thing keeps working I can't think of anything that could make it better. But if it does quit working, hey, I'll just return it for a new one. I highly recommend this player, but because of where it's made, do get the extended warranty.

Summary: What seems too good to be true is.
Review: I was very happy when I bought this as a Christmas present for my fiancee. I thought the price was very reasonable, and it worked like a charm the CDs I taught her how to burn. The first problem was the rechargable batteries didn't really work well; but that was fine since she usually used the adapter.

Then suddenly it stopped stopped playing any kind of CD. The only thing it will do is play the radio.

Soon I discovered their support is nearly non-existant. Their online solutions library has never worked althought I've tried to access it many times. The rest of their website has no mention of this problem, although I've seen it posted many times here and on other review boards. I've email their tech support, but have yet to receive a response. I've tried calling which was another fiasco!

In other words... this product is a lemon.

Summary: Best player money can buy
Review: I've got this player today, and though i've paid huge tax (this fact need to be check) i dont give a f**k about extra money i've paid,i've got a very good engine for my MP3 collection, the only
weack point is regular CD playback, the sound isn't good as SONY cdman, so if you want to change your ricent cd SONY player, don't do it. I think lots of people have written here about how simple to manage SP250, so I won't repeat all this. 5 stars definitley.
Don't forget to change the headphones, those in packege are low quality, use aiwa ones.

Summary: It works great!
Review: After reading some of the reviews posted here, I was a little reserved about purchasing the SP250. However, now that I've received it, I'm glad that I bought it. It supports multiple bit rates, which HELPS ALOT (most of the MP3s we download are not all encoded with the same bitrate). The sound quality is great (though I would advise a new set of ear/headphones if your a REAL music lover)... The customizable EQ works well. The firmware is upgradable, so your SP250 can stay up with these times of quickly changing technology. In terms of skipping and shock protection, I thought I had a problem, but the problem was just that I was walking with the SP250 in my bag, and the buttons were being pushed....after activating the hold function, everything was fine. The menus weren't as customizable as I expected, but no biggie. The SP250 also comes with Nickel Metal-Hydride batteries, which are the best recharable batteries you can buy now. It comes with RealJukebox software, which doesn't really do much more than organize your music and rips CDs. I would highly recommend this product to anyone.

Summary: Good for 30 Days
Review: I received this unit as a Christmas gift. It ran fine until the return/exchange period ran out. A few days after that, it started skipping. This surprised me since my wife's SP100 runs flawlessly. Rio customer support is useless.

Summary: Didn't work
Review: I bought one of these things from Amazon and it never worked. Not for one second. I let the batteries charge all night and it still wouldn't boot up. I tried different rechargeable batteries, but it made no difference. Between this and my Rio 500 which had to be RMAed 3 times, I'm starting to think Rio specializes in great ideas that they don't know how to make work. I'm moving on to the Creative Nomad IIc. Hopefully I'll have better luck with that.

Summary: RIOVOLT - CUSTOMER NO SERVICE
Review: Purchased an SP250 in December. Poorly designed lid latch broke in January. Tech Support indicated they were having problems with that....product is so far out on back order no idea when it could be replaced under warranty. Tech was supposed to send email with return instructions and RMA (Return MErchandise Authorization) next day. It is now February and still waiting. Company Tech Support number is permanently busy...then they forward you to a related company to tell you they can't pull up the support case on their system. But if I wait a few more days, they will send me an RMA.....Their support is nonexistent!!

Summary: Defective and apparently already obsolete
Review: After a lot of comparison shopping I bought myself a 250 for Christmas and liked it at first. The batteries didn't last as long as advertised, but I have a recharger and extra batteries, so that was no big deal. What was a big deal, however, was that a month after I got it, it stopped playing audio CDs. (To its credit, it still played MP3 discs.) I returned it to where I bought it for an exchange, only to be told that the model has been discontinued. I chose an in-store credit instead, and will wait for the next generation. Why discontinue a model that has been out such a short period of time (though it's still available on RioVolt's website)? Is this unit having more problems than are reported here? I'll wait and see, thanks.
