Rating: Summary: Very nice but complicated Review: December 25th 2003
I had extremely high expectations upon ordering this cd player and was waiting anxiously for Christmas to arrive. Upon trying out the cd player this morning, I encountered it to be quite complex for the normal personal. There are several things you must connect such as the remote and the headphones to the remote. It may seem a little complicated, but once mastered, this Sony player is great to use with its many features. I love the fact that the batteries last 120 Hours! It is also nice that the charger is included with the cd player. The nice carrying pouch also protects the cd player. The slight downfall to the player are the headphones included. With the included Sony MDR-027 headphones, you cannot test the full potential of this cd player. In order to do so, you must purchase the DJ type headphones or simply to look in style, purchase the behind the neck street style headphones. Overall, I rate this cd player an 8.5/10, it is great.
**August 9 2004 UPDATE**
So far this cd player is working perfectly! I never thought it would actually work so long at such great quality. i can pop in any cd and it will play beautifully at rich quality. again, ive bought harmon kardon headphones so this will alter the sound slightly so it can use the cd player at its full potential as opposed to the crappy manufacturer headphones.. well seems like this cd player will last for awhile and ill update in another 6 months or so
Rating: Summary: MD Users Review: I am not really rating on the item as a whole because I use it just to copy music to my MD Player. This thing rocks. It plays all my CD/CDRs/CDRW audio cds. With the optical cable and my NetMD recorder, the tracks are properly indexed (Except for hiddle tracks at the end the cds, the silence throws it off). With a CD with no music breaks, all tracks were properly indexed. I love this thing for my MD Player.

Rating: Summary: Good features and performance Review: I have had this CD player about six months and I am pleased with my purchase. The portability is excellent, the rechargeable batteries are convenient, and Sony's G-Protection system is unshakeable. I often listen in my car and no bump has ever made it skip yet.How does it sound? First, the headphones that come with it are kind of lame: little bass without the bass-boost function, and muffled sound. I tried some inexpensive Sony "Digital Reference" headphones but got weak volume and nearly no bass at all. Now I'm using some Koss KSC50 clip on earphones. They show off this player's capabilities much better! The bass doesn't need an artificial boost and the sound is clear and detailed. (And their silver color looks better with this CD player than Sony's own product.) I usually listen to electronic pop and indie rock so I can't judge the player's performance for other styles, but I just think it makes my records sound good.

Rating: Summary: What Happened? Review: I have owned several Sony Discmen. This Discman, the most recent that I bought, has all of the features that I wanted, except one, the most important one--good sound. This Discman in fact sounds worse--muddier, weaker, more distorted--than other Sony units costing one-third the price of this unit. This Discman is among the most disappointing purchases I have ever made.
Rating: Summary: Terrible Sound Quality Review: Previousely to trying the D-EJ985, I owned a D-ES55, which was manufactured about five years ago and was large enough to house electronics that could provide clear and strong bass output. The D-EJ985, however, is very small and cannot give any bass clarity. The sound was terrible and I returned my unit. I'd rather spend the money to have my D-ES55 repaired. Anyone hoping for clear bass notes will try another player. LISTEN BEFORE YOU BUY!
Rating: Summary: Good CD Player Review: Stylish, thin, and great battery life. It sounds fine to me, those people complaining about muffled sound are probably using crappy headphones. It sounds great to me.
Rating: Summary: Wow, this sux Review: This is my 2nd player and it sounds so bad. I plugged this thing through Creek OBH-11 Headphone amp to my HD580 and god it sounds soooooo dull. I m now thinking about a way to get rid of this.
Rating: Summary: Best Portable CD Player Around!!! Review: This is such an amazing portable CD!!! It is evrything a portable CD player should be. It's very light compared to other P.C.D.Ps and it has excellent design. Anyone with a beautiful CD player would be happy to show it around. Okay, now for the sound quality: just excellent. The bass sound is very very rich, plus this one allows you to switch modes; normal, rich bass (mode 1), and very rich bass (mode 2).This is a feature that not many P.C.D.P.s offers and mine is set permanently to mode 2. The sound just blows me away. It's just amazing. Plus, 120 hours of battery life!!! What more can you want? I come from BKK, Thailand and am currently studying in the US. I used this CD player practically for the whole plane trip to bangkok (22 hrs) AND back to Massachusetts and haven't even used up half of the battery. This product also comes with a charger, which makes everything very very convenient. (Even though I promise you wouldn't need to charge it very often, I mean, 120 hrs!) The remote control that comes with it is extremely stylish, something you would expect from Sony and very easy to use. The only thing I would complain about this product would be the crappy headphones that come with it. I would recommend Sony MDR-NC20 Traditional Closed Dynamic Noise Canceling Collapsible Headphones (also available here) if you travel a lot or live in an environment with a lot of noise like me. Overall: I'm very pleased with product. Great sound. Excellent rich bass. Stylish and up-to-date design CD player. Easy to use remote control. Convenient charging stand. Light, portable and skip-free. (Horrible headphones.) If this is what you are looking for in a portable CD player, I'd say: GO FOR IT!! Having used this for almost a year, there's no way that you could regret purchasing this!!
