Rating: Summary: Don't buy it - too fragile Review: My daughter purchased a Panasonic SL-SX289V. Within a couple of weeks it was busted. It fell onto a linoleum floor from a height of 2.5 ft and was ruined. The hinge/latch mechanism was shattered.A few bumps are inherent in the life of a portable electronics gadget of any kind. Clearly Panasonic didn't do their homework in designing their CD players.
Rating: Summary: VERY satisfied customer! Review: my old portable cd player, a sony discman (D-E301) broke. the laser jammed at track 5 1/2, and i could never finish my cds, which made it useless. it's three years old, and i figured it was time for a new cd player. when i found this panasonic on amazon, i knew i had to have it. my old wirey portable speakers take up more room than the player itself, and they're really quiet, kind of stupid. i found a picture of this cd player on panasonic's website... and it looked great. it's small and round, a tiny bit fat because of the speakers, but it's still smaller than my old discman. the speakers are on top, and so are the play/skip/stop buttons & LCD display. the top is silver, the bottom is black. at first it looked sort of flimsy, but after actually using it, i found the player to be very solid and sturdy. it has all the normal features, including random/repeat play options. the skip protection is awesome, the player slid off my seat and started playing ping-pong around my mom's minivan without skipping a beat. and, if you were wondering, there's a switch right on top to change from speaker to headphone mode, it's SUPER easy. the headphones are nice, too, even though i don't use them often. it is really neat to hold this cd player in your hand, without wires or headphones or anything, and have beautiful sound. the speakers get pretty loud, usually i keep them at half volume. i don't really use my boombox anymore, because i never used the tapedeck or radio, and this has better sound. with such nice skip protection, clear sound, size, long battery life (already, using speakers and everything, the batteries have lasted lots longer than they did with my quiet old broken cd player on headphones), and features, i would say this is an $80-$100 cd player by itself. the speakers are a bonus you won't find anywhere else, making this cd player so much more valuable to any music-lover, without affecting the price (and looking around at some online as well as physical electronics stores, amazon has a GREAT price). even if you already have a portable cd player, you should seriously consider purchasing this. i'll set it on my dresser, and forget where the sound is coming from. i have music with me everywhere now. it's a wonderful thing.
Rating: Summary: FUN CD PLAYER Review: Now, I can listen to my CDs anywhere I want without having to use earphones! Obviously, I can't compare the sound to my stereo system or a Bose. But why would I? The speakers are small. What else should I expect? The price is high compared to other compact CD players or big boom boxes (I think because this model is made in Japan). So, basically, I'm paying for convenience. Ok, that's it...
Rating: Summary: The perfect portable solution Review: The Panasonic SL-PH270 Portable CD Player is EXACTLY what I was looking for! I wanted a CD player that I could take on my frequent trips -- one that I could play in my hotel room without having to lug around external speakers. This little unit is only slightly (and I mean very slightly!) larger than a standard CD player, so it takes up very little room in my carry-on bag. As for the sound quality, it is excellent -- for an incredibly small unit with very small speakers. What I mean is that the sound is pleasing, but of course does not have deep, rich bass, or ear-splitting volume. It does nicely fill a room with music, and if you want more volume or bass, you can always carry a set of powered speakers to plug into the headphone plug (which is what you'd have to do with any other portable CD player anyway!). I imagine if you are into hard rock or rap/urban music, you'd probably find the bass disappointing, but I play mostly classical and pop/light rock music, and I've been very happy with the sound quality and volume. The unit has a good array of features (I particularly like the "hold" button, which keeps you from accidentally activating a button), and the anti-skip works very well. This CD player is easy to use and has a very simple, uncomplicated design. If you are looking for a VERY compact, easily portable CD player with speakers, I don't think there is a better unit than the Panasonic SL-PH270 on the market today. I highly recommend it!

Rating: Summary: Good Buy Review: This CD player is really great. It has excellent built in speaker which you will absolutely love. The bass boost has 2 levels according to which type of music you consider. The sound quality is definitely a 5 star. Pros are that 1. Never skips. I ride school bus(very bumpy) and it never skipped when riding the school bus. 2. Its abilities are all excellent (Ex: Bass boost, built in speaker, etc) 3.Over 24 Track programmable CD memory.(a lot of songs) But there are several major Cons though on this product. 1. 40 Seconds Anti shock isn't bad but most of other CD players on this price range has 45 Seconds Anti Shock. 2. The price may have gone down a little, but its still little steep for a CD player that just plays CDs. (Ex: not capable with MP3 and doesn't have radio) 3.It is very easy to spot scratches when you drop them. (Very common with Panasonic Products; in my opnion) Overall, this product is very descent and recommendable to anyone. But I would prefer Aiwa Products because their price is very reasonable and they have some excellent CD players. I would also prefer MP3-CD players (especially Rio One) because they have some very good capabilities.
Rating: Summary: Great product but doesn't have mp3 formats Review: This is a great product, even compared to today's cd players. The unit is built to last and feels strong compared to today's cheap products that you find at the stores for the same price range. It plays cd-r very well and handles scratches pretty good too. Don't let it's 40 second anti skip make you think that this is a weak product. It has this motion swing aid which works marvelously. What this means is that when you hold it on your hand and swing it while running or walking, it doesn't skip. That and add the 40 seconds anti skip to it and it would be very hard to here a single skip. It isn't ideal for running ofcourse but it will give you a good lap before it shows its weakness. The speaker on it isn't great, just a twiter but it helps you let your buddies preview a small portion of a song. It has a hold button that will lock every button on the unit but not the volume. I've had this unit for about 3 years and it still works pretty good with a couple of dents. This unit isn't good for a steam room, sauna, or any place that has humidity in it. This i know for a fact. Placing it in a hot car doesn't harm it cause i've done it several times. The bad point is that it has no MP3 support and so most people pass this unit for the newer players.

Rating: Summary: Very Good CD Player Review: This is a VERY GOOD CD Player!! I have enjoyed this CD Player very much. I have taken it everywhere I've went. The speaker sound is very good and sound quality is outstanding. I would highly recommend that you buy this! But...there is a very very very low ringing noise...but if you are listening to the music (at any volume)you can't hear it at all. DEFINATELY BUY!!
Rating: Summary: Panasonic SL-PH270 Review: This is an excellent portable CD player that meets or exceeds all advertised qualities except for the speakers which are so bad that I seldom use them. The 40 second anti-shock memory is no joke--- this machine does not skip.
