Summary: Pros and Cons
Review: After using this device for one month+, this is a small list I gathered here for good/bad things about this little mp3 player.

Pros:
- You set your favorite radio stations, and it is still there after you change the battery.
- Good sound output quality and can deliver high sound levels
- Two level dynamic bass (although, i dont like to use)
- Your old MP3 CD's will suddenly make sense.
- Long battery life. I bet if they put some kind of solar cell on this devices, it would run with them perfectly without battery nor main power.
- some of other sony cd mp3 players has much successful (harder to break) control buttons. But D-NF610 looks smooth and beautiful with its radio.

Cons:
- My reason to give it 4 star (canceling 1 star) is its poor quality buttons. Especially the CD OPEN button is a stiff plastic, when you bend it by pressing, CD door is open. Someday either it will loose its speciality of keeping the cd door close, or it will be broken.
- Sometimes when I try to change radio channels, CD starts playing. Because of tooo compact and joint button desings. I have small fingers.

- Poor quality radio, especially when I compare to my old sony walkman radio. Too much noise and no MONO/STEREO switch.
- There is a USA/Europe shortwave radio BW (9KHz or 10KHz) switch to make you choose. But No switch for NTSC/PAL/SECAM systems. So TV Tuner does not work in Europe. I guess, you will need to buy D-NF611 for Europe.
- You will need a cd player bag.

- Japans and I have opposite intuitive direction feeling. When I use Jog Dial button, it does the opposive of what I thought. (That had happened to me with my Sony CMD Z5, I guess this is something to do with japaness culture)

- You cannot register this item, if you are not living in USA/Canada.

- No built in battery charger. This seems a logical decision to remove such a charger, because it is a very simple and cheap circuitry to do that. Would only increase its cost of production say 1 cent for sony, but would made our life easier.

Summary: Great. CD. MP3. Atrac. Player. Period.
Review: All I can say is Wow. I didn't expect this much quality. Atrac is awesome, I can have lower bitrates than for MP3s and still get more quality. Though Simple Burner (the software required to burn Atrac format) is a bit tedious to use, the end result is worth the time.

My problems with Simple Burner are the following.
-When changing tags, it lags for a bit, wasting time, and really making going through about 180 files tedious.
-Additionally, you cannot save your ISOs, so if you mess up, or need to end your session before burning, you lose all your progress required to organized.

Other than these problems, Simple Burner is fine.
Okay, back to the CD player itself. Again I must say that the quality is awesome. My only problems are the following.
-It's not very rechargeable battery friendly...oh well, I'll just have to get more alkalines.
-It looks like its cheaply made because of the materials used for the casing.
-The jog dial takes a bit of getting used to. You have to press downward as well as in to get the button function of the dial to work without extraneous effort.
-The buttons are so confusing!!! I hate manuals.
-Also, when you think about it, for about 4 times the cost, you can get a iPod with almost 12 times the capacity (more if you spend more). Oh well, I didn't have that much mone to spend.
-Lastly, Sony had to have the backward thinking to put the volume changing button RIGHT WHERE MY HEADPHONE JACK IS. Argh I have to move the headphone connecter every time I want to change the volume. Oh well, not that big of a deal, I don't change volume that much anyway.

In retrospect, all my complaints are just petty complaints which can be dealt with without too much of a cost. Great CD/MP3/Atrac player. Great quality. 'Nuff said.

Summary: Really good For portable CD player "Newbies"
Review: basically sony scores again with this CD Player. It has many features to choose from FM/AM radio, TV audio, and WB. I always find that when the MP3's that I burn start to irriate me. (Not the quality or the performance) I then switch to the radio and listen to some radio DJ's.

any way, the G-protection on the player lives well up to it's name. boy did I test it. I shook it, had it in my coat pocket, ran with it, not one skip.

The MP3 and Atrac3/plus is rock solid. It practically plays MP3s at many different bit rates. (32-256)

Atrac3/Plus Very good. but the software tends to piss me off a bit. It encodes all those songs, and then tells you, "some tracks may not have been written." all in all it's nice to have. The manual says that the software may not work on all PCs. It worked on mine.

as for the CD Player, it's well thought up of (The functionality) not the button placement. the pause/play, forward, back, stop button is so friggin tiny. it's about the size of a dime. I have to be carefull not to push stop or pause.

but with everything the CD player is rock solid.
it's well worth the money you'd spend on it.

Summary: Used it without Atrac3 feature
Review: Before I had a chance to get home and download the software on my computer, I had a few days to just use the player in the car and on headphones. I wasn't as happy as I wanted to be with the money I spent, so I already returned it and bought a cheaper Panasonic with the tuner and mp3 playback capability. I found the Sony couldn't handle full volume without distorting the sound, especially the bass. The machine beeps no matter what button you are pushing unless you do some maneuver every time you turn the thing on involving holding down a button for some time, which I didn't like to do while driving. Then, in my Nissan, there is a compartment big enough for a portable cd player, but not one that takes the inputs 180 degrees from each other- the width increases too dramatically and it doesn't fit anymore... I don't have any of these problems with the Panasonic, although I won't have a chance to use Atrac3.

Summary: Sony D-NF610 Walkman ~ Some MP3 Tips
Review: Here is a short list.

1. There is a noticeable lag switching between mp3 files on this unit. This makes listening to things such as live performances and conceptual albums less than fully pleasureable. SOLUTION: Encode the entire cd/album as a single file.

2. The sound quality from this unit is superb...making it quite easy to distinguish between MP3s encoded at a lower bitrate (128) from that of a higher one (320). SOLUTION: The encoding must be at a higher bitrate... subsequently your CDRs will hold about 7 albums at most. (I have read elsewhere that this walkman will not play VBR encodings... I haven't tried VBR as of yet).

3. The bass-boost hardware functionality is not very consistent to be enjoyable. SOLUTION: Wavelab or similiar software to modify the bass-punch of the MP3 encoding (if you are into that sort of thing).

4. If you leave your MP3s all on the root-level (or in the same folder) the plus or minus buttons on the left-hand side of the LCD will not advance between the tracks... only to adjacent folders. SOLUTION: Put each of your single MP3 albums in it's own separate folder on the root level. I leave albums by the same artist in their own folder and then use the shuttle function to get to it instead of the plus button.

I hope this will be of some help, I enjoy using this player everyday! Good luck and take care.

ps. make sure to own the albums you encode :p

Summary: Great Player!!
Review: I am really glad that I got this walkman; it was definitely worth the price. I travel often and need a dependable portable CD player that will not mess up in the middle of a trip. This is such a great CD player; I can throw it up and down or jostle it any which way when I am listening to a CD, and it won't even skip! The sound is crystal clear, also.
The only thing I do not like is it has a lot of gadgets on it that I do not need, but the CD player was designed to look nice despite all the buttons. Despite this, it is an excellent portable CD player. Whoever is willing to pay a little more money for a player, definitely buy this one!

Summary: My best friend
Review: I bought this after going through a few other players that I had problems with - my old Sony D-FJ61 finally died after a long life of use, and the open/close button of another MP3-CD player broke.
This is one reliable piece of machinery. I mainly use it on the bus and around school, and this thing has withstood the rigors of backpack-life. Now and then I accidentally drop it or leave a book on top of it in my bag, but it doesn't have any negative effect at all, aside from a few scratches. I've never heard it skip, even when jogging.
The volume level is great - it goes loud enough so I can hear my music over the bus tires (even though my parents might argue that I'm going to go deaf - oh well). The built in tuner is a great feature to have as well, whether you enjoy the radio often or just want a quick change of music - Or if the batteries are running low (great battery life, by the way), you can switch to the radio to save some.
My only complaint is that I use a connector cable to listen through speakers, and I can sometimes hear the player playing the cd - a kind of scrapey noise - if the music is on quietly. But that's not a problem with headphones or with louder music. Also, the buttons take some getting used to, but I haven't had any problems with them breaking.
Some advice, though - when using the MP3 CDs, it's easier to keep your MP3's organized in folders, probably by album. And buy other headphones if you don't already have a pair you like.
If it looks too expensive to you - remember, you're getting the built in tuner as well as MP3 and CD capability. It was hard to find another one with all that. This one's worth it.

Summary: WOW
Review: I bought this cd player not knowing that it played the ATRAC format. I am able to fit 27 cd's worth of music on one ATRAC cd. So, when I travel to camps and such I never change the CD. The only down side to the ATRAC CD's is how long they take to burn. It takes my DELL several hours to process the information. But, I don't have to burn very many of them. The FM and AM tuners work very well, even in a building.

Summary: Best CD player i've had!!!
Review: I bought this Cd player, not knowing what it had. I knew it had a player, radio, weather, and TV, but there is a feature thatmade me love this thing. The feature is the Atrac3plus. It lets you put on like 500+ songs on one cd, all you need to do is download it on your computer and put all your cds and mp3 stuff on one cd. Its awsome and no one really cares or trys it.
Well besides that, this player is awsome. It like I said, has a cd player, radio, weather, and TV. Its also a mp3 player. This player has such clear sound, I heard things I didnt hear on my old panasonic. It also has 3 different bass choices, none, medium, and alot. It of course has the different modes like shuffel, repeat, etc....It has 3 different displays, normal, wich is how much time the song has beed paying, Time left, and the song # out of all the songs. It also has a jog dial where you just spin the dial and push in to choose a song, and it helps when you got 200 songs on one cd so you need to use it to look for your song. Also you can turn of the player and it will go to the exact spoyt where u stopped.
The only probably is that when you pause it, it makes an annoying beeping sound, but i got used to that.

Altogether, you need to buy this cd player.
