Summary: Really nice player
Review: i bought it a couple days ago, and its been quite good, i upgraded the firmware in about a minute or so, and i havent had any problem with it.
2 things: first, its a little slow to read (but i guess it depends on how many mp3 are on the cd) and the second.. lack of carrying case.
but a 4 overall!!

Summary: A few irks, overall a superb product
Review: I chose the iRiver SlimX player to replace my rather old CD player. I had looked forward to players that would be able to read mp3s, as well as CD-RW media, and with players like the iRiver, this is getting to be very affordable for most people. Firstly, the Amazon delivery was speedy (kudos to them). The player was easy enough to set up and use, and after looking over the manual to find out how to charge up the batteries, I had it playing with little trouble. The control pod takes a bit to learn what each button does when pushed, scrolled, or held in, but after a bit of getting used to it, I found out just how extensive the controls are. You have complete and easy control over the disc, which makes skipping around and through directories in search of a song quite easy. You can set the player to play your music by the entire CD or by directory only, which means if you have your disc set up with different artists in their own folders, its easy to either hear all of a single group or all of your music. This player is filled to the top with functionality, and as complete as it is, it is still easy to learn to use. Friends might not be able to pick it up and figure out how to use it without a bit of explaining, but considering that its much more than the stop/play/search controls on your run of the mill player, its not bad at all. A few things irked me about the player. They are worth mentioning, but certainly not enough to pull the rating down to a 4 instead of a 5. The player makes a very loud beep when it turns on, which can be quite loud and unexpected if you use the player in a car or hooked up to a stereo that stays loud. Another minor irritation is the fact that the seek is slow. It goes about 10:1 seconds, which is fine for single tracks, but for continuous mixes or long files, seeking through them can just take a very long time. One good thing is that when you stop the player, it remembers where in a track it was playing, so your track starts in the same place it left off when you turn the player on again. The control pod sometimes is a bit annoying, because with no way to attatch it to the main player, it just hangs around on its cord, and can be a hassle at times. Im sure the external battery pod would have the same effect, but with the rechargable batteries, AAs are usually not nessesary unless you need to go for a long time where you couldnt recharge. The case and panel of the control pod also scratch up pretty easily. Minor problems aside, the player is excellent. I would give it a 4.5 if the option were available, but the player certainly does not rate a 4, so 5/5 it is. I am quite impressed with its functionality and versatility, and reccommend it for a portable player.

Summary: More than satisfied!
Review: This product is justa amazing, slim is just the right word to define it. I'm more than satisfied with the looks, quality, sound and performance of this product, and I don't see why you would want to buy any other MP3 player. I read one of the other reviews in which the headphones where hardly criticized as well as the antishock protection, and I do not seem to agree with those unsatisfied costumers, the headphones sound just fine, and they have a great volume capacity and the antishock has not failed for me so far, the remote is amazingly comfortable and elegant, and with the firmware upgrades now available you even get new menu options that increase the functionality on SlimX. As I said before, its just great!

Review: Are you looking for an mp3 player? with radio? something that doesn't skip? is ultra thin? easy to navigate and organize files? awesome remote? amazing sound quality? all at an affordable price?? well, then this is the player for you. I bought this for my friend for her birthday and after seeing and experiencing it, I really should have bought two (or kept it for myself .. hehe)

Review: The ad boasts "best anti-skip protection around". I must be doing something wrong because this thing skips constantly. You can't jog with it or even power walk with it. Overall, nice to have something that will play MP3s, but not worth the money!!

Summary: iRiver came through with a wonderful product.
Review: I recently owned a RioVolt SP100 and have been testing the SlimX for a week now. My old RioVolt used to skip a lot when I was exercising and I also wanted to get a player that wasn't so bulky. Thank goodness I found the SlimX! The little remote has a very bright back-lit display and even has cute little animated icons. Besides having a compact size and cool remote, the buffer on these players are excellent. You can shake it until your arm is tired and you still won't hear a skip. I also like how you can personalize the EQ settings. They've also made it very easy to navigate through the CD directory, something I never got to figure out on my old RioVolt. It also has rechargable batteries that fit inside of the player. I took a flight to NYC and on the way back I was caught on a 2-hour delay. I listened to the iRiver the whole way back so it was able to play a constant 7-hours with the headphones I was using which is quite good considering the impedance on the earbuds I was using were 16 ohms. After the internal battery died out, I just ran the player off of two AA-batteries on the external battery pack. This is one CD-player package that makes the rest look like they're ancient. The next time I look for a new cd/mp3 player on the market, I'm definitely going to keep iRiver in mind.The only con is the earbuds that come with the player. They don't do this player justice. Go out and pick up some Sony's and you'll be set to go. I have some MDR-E888LPs. Exercising couldn't be more fun.

Summary: Excellent for jogging...and with remote
Review: I purchased the iriver because of the reviews I read on Amazon it seemed to be the best...and it had all the features I wanted including mp3 capability and an FM tuner. There's good and bad. The Good: 1)I've jogged quite a bit with it and it has done fine - but only when I hold the player and the remote in my hand - it didn't work at all in my pocket. 2)It's thin light and darn cool looking. 3)All the features mentioned in the ad for it. The Bad: 1)The sound quality without the remote is far worse than with it - distortion, and bad highs and lows. 2)The remote itself is difficult to learn how to operate. 3)The only the player operates at all on a jog is if I hold both the player and remote in my hand - it will not work at all in my pocket. Over all it's a good player if you plan to jog and workout with it...and you have the time to figure out how to use the remote.

Summary: Simply a GREAT piece of hardware
Review: Before shelling out the big bucks for a SlimX, I did a whole lotta research. I read pretty much every review that existed online, even those in languages I couldn't understand. All i knew was that getting 5 stars from every site (or the equivalent) had to mean something. My previous CD player purchases came to a grand total of prolly less than the one SlimX. But wow was it worth it. Although the looks aren't THAT great, and the slimness isn't as striking as some would make u believe, this is still a GREAT mp3 cd player. Using the remote for the display is something I actually like. While some reviewers complain that there should be a LCD on the player itself, I'd much rather just look at a small remote than take out the whole thing. The remote is very well designed, lightweight, and easy to use. I learned pretty much all the buttons in 5-10 minutes. But learning about all the functions is going to take a little playing with, not that that is a bad thing. The only big gripe that I have is with the external battery pack. It adds a little bulk, but beyond that, it's just not as cool as the rest of the player. iRiver should have at least painted it silver or done something w/ the covering. Other than that, this player will keep me rockin for a long time. BUY IT TODAY. If not yesterday. If you already have one, rejoice! If you want one and can't afford one, get a second job. It is worth every penny.

Summary: Excellent multi-format media player
Review: The iRiver 350 is great to look at, and really is light and slim. No problems in its first six months, and I use it every weekday. Most importantly for a player that can store 700 MB of music is a user-friendly in-line remote control. A menu system allows quick navigation through the directory system on the CD. Scrolling titles, and you can even fast-forward within tracks. Firmware is easily upgradeable; and the upgrades have improved functionality - they're not just hidden bug-fixes, the unit is clearly evolving. The unit also has a built-in recharger - chanrge lasts around 10 hours (one week for me). And finally, CDR/CDRW is the ideal media for PC owners - who needs mini-discs. The one single hassle was having to buy a UK charger.
