Summary: Could it be that they make some cheaper than others????
Review: My honest opinion... Its cheap and the quality is not as reliable or as good as Sony. The sound quality through any of the earphones I tried (I tried quality ones too) which I subsequently tried on other portables did not produce a strong sound even at the highest sound setting. The hinge under the top lid looks like it would break very easily as it shifted side to side. The sound comming through the line out was superb I must say but I dont want to carry around my speakers. Stick with the more reliable and consistent sony- they just keep ticking this one is fragile and week.

Summary: An Awesome portable player!
Review: I gotta say, this thing is awesome! There is nothing it doesn't do, that I would want it to do. The biggest thing I like about it is that it shuffles MP3's that I burn from my PC. I love using CD's because the media is cheap and I don't have to mess with transferring data to/from my PC with one of the solid state mp3 players. I also love that Windows can't 'accidently' erase my media like it did for my digital camera's flash card (Thank you very much!)

Other things about this player that I like...it's user interface. Very well thought out and intuitive. I didn't have to spend an afternoon with the instruction manual which is always a plus for something that does so much.

Things that could be better....the case it comes with is really cheesy. Nothing more than a cloth sack. So, do yourself a favor and get a nice case for it.

Although the control attachment for it is very well done, I probably would have preferred it being on the player cause it along with the AC adaptor, the headphones, and potentially the external battery attachment are just too many cords to deal with and get all tangled up. Just my personal preference.

All in all though, an excellent player, for a competitive price!

Summary: Good choice for the money
Review: This is a great CD/MP3 player for the money. Sound quality is good but you definitely need a better pair of head phones than the one it comes with. The headphones jack has become a little loose after few months of use and occasionaly needs adjustment for proper sound. Also it is ultra sensitive with burnt CD's alot of my burnt CD's have difficulty running on this player.

Summary: MY FIRST CD-MP3 PLAYER
Review: My first CD-MP3 Player. Probably the Best because it plays pretty much whatever I have fed it. Very Cheap to operate and superb sound quality compared to hardware players. Can also play audible.com books recorded to CD-R/W media.Nothing can be easier than just adding mp3 tunes to your CDR disc and plopping it in to listen to. No software interfaces and transfers to worry about.

Summary: The most sophisticated microsoft-ware enabled mp3 cd player
Review: I was so impressed with the high sophistication of this unit, I've been used to the Japanese models in Japan, with really cutting edge features. I wondered away from the Japanese mini disc's players and cd players due to the high conformity constraints withholding new mp3 players from the market. The copyright infringement laws are highly implemented in Japan, so the U.S. market is a good test bed for the piracy in world right now. Anyways, this cdmp3 player comes with 2 bubble gum stick batteries that are internally housed to power it for hours of pleasure. Then as a kick back, it has the ability to connect to the external extended battery pack that takes two double AA's, of which is included! The software is so detailed and advanced on the remote control; it has far surpassed any Japan market player's I have ever owned. I was also able to select the time I wanted to skip ahead in songs, like 1,2 or 4 seconds at a time, that's so helpful when listing to mega mp3 mixes that are like 2hrs long! The thing even comes with an adjustable equalizer that is detailed, the list goes on and on. The software is upgradeable and is powered by Microsoft, that's got to say something for the hardware used, to enable the player. The player is also thinner and lighter than the newest Sony ultra CD player in the U.S.! As for me I'm proud to say that i'm back in the American market for consumer portable electronics due to the highly advanced technologies the company has implemented.

Summary: Perfect Sound, Excellent Features, VERY SLIM
Review: Got the iRiver SlimX MP3 player for Christmas. I have CD-Rs and CD-RWs that contain MP3s and WAV files that play with no hitch. I have also played a few regular store-bought CDs. No problems.

Best Features: a) Menu features. On the wired, not wireless, remote you can go through all the features. Too many to list but very self-explanatory. The standard set-up is good. Among them are intensity of blue light, amount of time the blue light stays on after you click something, beep sound. I changed the way the equalizer look from bars to wavy lines (only for show). I changed the "fast forward" speed to speed up how fast you can skip ahead in a song. It also has the ability to set up a fade in for songs when you start up the player so you don't get sound-shocked.

b) Wired remote. The remote has 2 buttons on top. Push down on it and it goes to Menu. Click it to the right and left and it skips or goes back a full song. Do a hold to the right or left and fast forward through a song. The 2nd button on the top skips ahead or back 10 songs if you click it to the right or left. Here you also control the FM stereo. There is also a HOLD on the remote. On the bottom is the volume, EQ, Memory buttons. As well as play and stop.

c) Slimness and batteries. Incrediblely slim and light. The batteries will even blow you away. They are very slim rectangle batteries that charge in the unit. Once you plug in the AC Adapter you can charge or discharge/charge the batteries. It held me through a full 2 hour flight. I have not fully tested the life yet. There is an included AA battery case. It looks like a pen and it plugs into the unit on the side. It is a battery backup should the rechargeables go dead. Nice to have.

d) Sound. I was really impressed with the great sound. However, I did not like the included headphones. They are regular earbuds with no headset. Actually the earbuds are a little big and would not fit in my small ear. They kept falling out. Regular sound is about ~23. On the EQ you can adjust all settings to get it like you like it.

Other upsides: Great shock protection. I think you can even adjust this setting in the Menu. Cool shiny silver look. Nice carrying case.

Downsides: Earphones, wired remote (wish it were wireless) - wires can be bulky. Carrying case is nice but is cloth. Can not be clipped to anything.

Summary: Amazing Value
Review: I purchased this unit while the ... rebate was in effect. Assuming I get the check, it is an incredible value. The unit is about the size of a circle inscribed in a standard CD case. It plays virtually all common formats flawlessly and is firmware upgradeable. The website (iriver.com) says Codecs for Ogg vorbis and other formats are being developed. I burned my entire 9 CD Stax collection as MP3 files onto one CD-R disc (244 songs). No problems-good reproduction even with the standard earbuds. The remote has so many features, it can be daunting. The sparse manual has confusing directions with pictures that don't help much. But hey, half the fun is playing around with the features. Almost everything can be customized, including EQ settings and 35 languages for the display. Comes complete with all you need including an external battery extender. Did I mention it has a decent FM radio with preset capability ?
The website offers a car adapter kit ... which includes a cassette adapter, car charger and non-slip mat to use on the dash. I haven't ordered it, but these items separately would cost a lot more. I recommend it highly unless you are scared off by learning the capabilities of the remote.

Summary: Thin, Great Sound
Review: Loads of features, thin design, and great sound makes this a wonderful CD-MP3 player. However, I find the way the wire on the remote control positioned ackwardly and I wish there was a display on the player itself so that I could operate it without the remote control when I feel like it.

Review: AWESOME cd player!!! I love it!! It has so many features. I had a TDK Mojo and wasn't sure if this would compare to it but it has gone beyond what i could have expected. Great buy!! I would recommend it.
