Description:

VisualAge for Java is designed to facilitate the building of Web-enabled enterprise applications. VisualAge is ideal for building and testing Java applets, servlets, and Enterprise JavaBean components. And it supports the development and management of Java programs that can scale from Windows NT to OS/390 application servers.

You can reuse your existing applications and extend them to e-business with VisualAge for Java. Rather than coding to low-level interfaces, VisualAge for Java generates JavaBeans and Enterprise JavaBeans components for existing CICS TS, TXSeries, MQSeries, Host On-Demand, and SAP R/3 transactions and connections. Investments in tools and skills are maintained through integration with VisualAge for Java (Rational Rose, IBM WebSphere Studio, Rational ClearCase, IBM TeamConnection, Merant PVCS, and Continuous Software). Multiple developers can work on multiple projects, with automatic versioning control that facilitates the rapid creation and deployment of applications to the WebSphere platform.

Leverage the complete range of WebSphere servers and supporting platforms: VisualAge for Java covers a wide spectrum, from your first JDBC data bean to EJB persistence of CMP beans into relational databases. With a persistence framework and unit-test environment for WebSphere, VisualAge for Java provides a fast way to develop, test, and deploy end-to-end e-business applications.

Features specific to the Professional Edition include:

  • Servlet SmartGuide generates servlets, JSP files, and prototype HTML.
  • WebSphere Test Environment allows developers to test their server-side Java code inside the IDE without having to publish an external Web application server.
  • An improved External Version Control bridge allows code to be shared with SCCI-based source control management (SCM) systems.
  • Solution maps allow developers to load and unload subsets of projects, packages, and classes from the IDE (config maps).
  • Full-screen edit/browse.
  • Support of Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition, V1.2.2 (also known as JDK 1.2.2), and Swing 1.1, Servlet 2.11, and JSP 1.0.
