Summary: Has gliches
Review: I've used this product for four years. The last two years I've had a problem with downloading my state's tax updates. I always buy the extra state tax software. I try to download the updates from Intuit's web site and it tells me there aren't any updates for my state. When I go back to the program it tells me there are updates to download. It's a never ending cycle and meanwhile I have no idea if the state tax form I send in is accurate or up to date because I always buy the software before the end of Dec 31 and changes are made to it before Apr 15. I've never received a reply from TurboTax/Intuit when inquiring about this gliche either. Also it seems if you use the same software year after year you should be able to get a better deal on the price - sort of like an upgrade. I find it's cheaper to buy this item from just about anywhere than Intuit... Otherwise the software works okay. I'm going to try Kiplinger's this year though.

Summary: Use to be good
Review: I've used TurboTax for at least 3 years. I've been relatively pleased in past years. This year they have done a very poor job with the product.

I found a blatent bug in their Web product that was miscalculating a basic number regarding mortgage interest, which I suspect had something to do with the Schedule C information.

Their tech support could not even support the Web product. They could not help me in the least bit. Incidentally, getting tech support was a joke! There were no free options. I couldn't even look at a knowledge base.

Summary: Terrible product, crippled with "activation"
Review: I've used TurboTax products for the last several years, but unfortunately, I'll probably never ever buy one again. First of all, the product is crippled with "activation". Someone at intuit is probably being touted as a genius for increasing revenue by 0.01% with this new copy protection. Unfortunately for him, he'll probably get laid off next year when the company enters bankruptcy because their customer base will not be coming back. The "activation" protection only lets you print and file form one computer. This is a terrible inconvenience for me as I have two computers, one in the den and one in the bedroom. I installed into the den, so if I try to use the software on the bedroom computer late at night, it comes up in demo mode and nags me to buy the software. Honest to god -- something I paid [money] for nags me and treats me like I pirated the software. For that reason alone I'll never buy another intuit product. As if activation is not enough of a problem, the software is bug-ridden to the point of being virtually unusable. The first time I tried to do my taxes it corrupted the save file when I finished working on it. This caused the program to crash with a "error in kernel32.dll" every time I loaded it from then on -- couldn't even load the program. The only fix was to delete my taxes and start all over again. There's also numerous other bugs. When I imported my tax info from 2001, it created some phantom nonexistant W2 that confused the heck out of everything. It often fails the tax return verification check at the end of the process because the interview procedure fails to ask some question that's needed to fill in some obscure worksheet that isn't even needed with your taxes. In conclusion, the only reason I purchased this software was because I was a loyal TurboTax user of years past, and they're certainly ruined that. I'll never buy this product again.

Summary: The new limitations are not worth the hassle
Review: I've used Turbotax since 1989 but this year I switched to TaxCut since I typically will input the information for me and several family members whose returns I prepare on my notebook computer, put the files on a diskette and then print the forms out on my desktop computer at work which is hooked up to a laser printer. I made the mistake of installing this program on my notebook and discovered that I could not install Turbotax (and print) on my desktop without paying for Turbotax a second time. I understand the need for copy protection, but I paid $...for this program and am being hampered in my use of it. So, I returned Turbotax and tried TaxCut. I thought I'd have to re-input my data from TurboTax, but TaxCut read my 2001 Turbotax files just fine! It was also cheaper than Turbotax by $...(bought it at Staples). The interface is just as good and easy as Turbotax and the program has good support. Even if you have been a good Turbotax user in the past and like it, I recommend going with Taxcut - especially if you want the flexibility of inputting data on one computer and printing from another. But, if you only use one computer to input and print and won't be changing out your hard drive anytime soon, Turbotax might still be a good option for you although I don't think the program is any better than Taxcut.

Summary: What does Premier Stand For?
Review: Just found out that TurboTax Premier Home & Business does not support the filing of the required 1120S form. The product leads you to believe it can support S-Corporations in its help features but only appears to support K-1 forms. After paying for TurboTax products from their inception, I'am going to look elsewhere as this company has no clue as to delivering the positive customer experience. TurboTax recommends that one buy both their Individual (Home) and their Business versions to support an S Corporation. Now since I'm not a limited partner or LLC, I don't know if those features work in their Premier Home and Business version.... Premier sounds like an opening of a new movie in which you may be in for something you didn't expect.

Summary: Intuit backs down
Review: Let me first start by saying I have been using Turbo Tax for 4 years now. This year Intuit made some significant changes which, unfortunately, are a disservice to its customers. First, you need to "activate" this product before you can do things like file electronically or even print your form. Once you install this on a particular computer you can forget about installing it on another one such as your laptop since the product is now tied to ONE computer for ALL time! So much for trusting your long-time, loyal customers. I was dismayed to find I was essentially forced to register my product. Secondly, most customers will be unpleasantly surprised to find you are blasted with advertisements from financial institutions WHILE using the software! That's right, you are in the middle of answering questions regarding your financial history and when you get to topics such as investing you are besieged with "relevant" ads. This is totally unacceptable! After paying ... retail for this product the last thing a customer wants is advertisements plastered in his face, especially right in the middle of doing your calculations. I can imagine using MS Word in the the not to distant future and the "little paper clip" pops up and tells me to go buy Webster's dictionary after I run the spell checker. Yeah right, only Intuit could think their customers are this naive.
In conclusion, the quality of this product has been diminished because of Intuit's attempts to squeeze at little more revenue out of this program. It appears as though these attempts have back-fired. After speaking with several colleages of mine they informed me they switched this year to Tax Cut. Next year I will do the same.

Summary: This was a good product until this year
Review: My computer "crashed" and I had to install my HDD and other peripherals in a new case with a P-4 motherboard.
Intuit no longer recognizes my installation as valid, I never got the State edition and the copy will not print out my forms.
Intuit's only solution is to purchase this package all over again.

No way will I purchase this again. I will copy and paste the info into the IRS.gov forms to print the final forms...or import the info into TaxAct and then ask for my mony back.

Intit has lost a faithul small business customer.

Summary: Worst customer service I have ever experienced.
Review: My initial activation was actually easy and uneventful. A week later I decided to upgrade my hard drive. Every application I moved from my old hard drive to my new hard drive runs flawlessly - - except TurboTax. I called Intuit's customer support and looked for help. Their response: "Buy another copy." I contacted tech support. Their response: "Reinstall the old hard drive." Please don't waste your money with this company.

Summary: Registration [stinks]
Review: Registration is fine for this year. I archive my data on a cdrom and files it away for amended return or audit and for next year.

What if I do need software two years from now? Microsoft may have pretty much forced me to a new OS and I probably will have new hardware. Will my archive copy of install work? Probably not. Will Intuit help? Maybe. Will it be significant extra hassle? You bet!

Is registration spyware? Maybe, but probably not. One can never be sure.
