Summary: A good product for organizing your finances
Review: I have been using Money for the past 18 months -- and upgraded to Money 2002 earlier this year. I found it relatively simple to use, and have come to rely on it to manage and track my finances. My only criticism is that it seems to have difficulty if you are self-employed and pay estimated taxes rather than have taxes withheld by your employer. As a result, I don't use it for tracking my income/taxes for tax preparation purposes, but it certainly comes in handy when you need to figure out capital gains, charitable donations, and other deductions when it comes to tax time.

Summary: Just OK
Review: I am not completely happy with this product which, after so many editions, should be nearing perfection for such a simple program. I have found that printing checks to be a pain... It should be so simple and yet, the layout choices they have provided don't work for pre-printed checks. Everything else is like before a good basic program.

Summary: Needs Work
Review: i purchased money02 deluxe and find it to be a waste of money. I have had a difficult time managing anything and keeping track of anything. I find it is not user friendly, and a seemingly stubborn peice of software. What I mean by stubborn is if your particular financial situation happens to be somewhat out of the norm then good luck attempting to enter it in money02 deluxe.

Summary: DONT UPGRADE! You will be sorry if you do!
Review: I used Money2001 with no problem. Then I got a new PC that came with Money2002, so I decided to try it out (BIG MISTAKE). The conversion went without a problem. Then I realized the new version only allows you to upload one bill at at time. What were they thinking?? What used to take 5 minutes to pay several bills now takes 30! Another feature lost by not allowing multiple payments, is the ability to see how the payments will affect your account so you can make any adjustments BEFORE you click submit. When I reinstalled Money2001, I could still get into my records, but I got got an error message saying my online checking had not been activated. According to Microsoft, they converted to a new file format in Money2002. Eventually they wont support earlier file formats. Once your bank converts your files to the new format, YOU CANT GO BACK!!. They said the only way to get Money2001 to work after you use Money2002 is to go open a brand new checking account! Microsoft said they "might" reinstall some of the old features in Money2003 this fall. If you dont have any financial software, try to find a copy of Money2001 or use Quicken2002 which allows multiple bill payment with one click. If you have Money2001, avoid this upgrade like the plague and wailt and see what Money2003 has to offer. Microsoft had better listen to the many complaints over this snaffu or they will lose business to Intuit Quicken. LET THE BUYER BEWARE!

Summary: Do Not Use this product (Even if it is free!)
Review: This product is terrible. I was suckered in with the free rebate that they offered with the H&R Block Tax Program (Another terrible program when compared to Turbo Tax). I have had nothing but problems and it is not operator error (I am a computer programmer). The program constantly complains that it cannot project financial data so I am constantly clicking through error messages. Microsoft posted a "fix" for this. The "fix" did not work! Minutes ago, I tried to create a 401(k) retirement account and I got a vague message saying "Operation Cannot be Performed". Moreover, it constantly prods you to get a passport account, which as most technically adept people know, is a tool that essentially allows access to all your accounts with ONE password. This is a terrible idea since if the system is compromised, every account you have is compromised as well. Go with Quicken, it cannot be any worse than this.

Summary: Worst product I've ever purchased
Review: Microsoft's Money 2002 has got to be the worst product I've purchased from them since the first edition of Windows 98.

The product has tremendous lag time when opening the subsets within the application. It crashes on almost ever user session.

My experience has been dreadful, If you buy this software you'll be making the mistake of a lifetime.

You'll have to reinstall your Operating System because it will invoke an explorer error in Windows that won't allow the O/S to boot. When I called Microsoft they said, and I quote; "Well, we've got no control over errors until our development team takes time to fix them. Sometimes our products get sent out in such a short time frame and that hurts our ability to produce a quality product"

Basicly what I got from customer service was a "I don't care, but I understand" kind of reply.

Futher errors you'll come across with this software is that it's missing files. A update will not replace these files and re-installing the software will only force you re-enter all of your personal information and start all over again.

The files that are missing are cruical to the operation of the program like certain scripts that allow for printing and designing custom invoices. If you try to use these features the program will crash and you'll have to re-install Money 2002.

Bottom line if you want some expensive toliet tissue buy the software and put the user guide to something worth while. Then use the CD-ROM as a coaster.

Summary: Not friendly for invoicing
Review: Be careful of this product if you want to produce custom invoicing. An Invoice Designer is included but crashes when saving any customization. Microsoft's web page says they are aware of the problem but do not have a solution. There is no provision for adding my own text (such as web page address) to the form. I also had a problem with a previous version where it could not print correctly to my HP printer.

Microsoft should be shamefully embarrassed by these failures and not market to any business if it cannot produce essential functionality.

Summary: Great Product with some changes from 2001
Review: I have always loved money and this was the upgrade from the 2001 money. I like the new UI and some new enhancements in background banking, Advisor FYI and the best feature was money side.

Summary: Buy MS Money 2000, if you can find it.
Review: If Money 2002 was half the product of the 2000 version, I'd rate it a buy. Unfortunately, it is not only an inferior product, but in many cases it permanently bars the road back to the far superior offerings of the past. It is not even a simple system issue; the only path to recovery entails getting a new Social Security number.

If you have a working version of MS Money, stand clear of this nightmare.

Summary: Much improved over Money 2001
Review: I was a Quicken user for 9 years and made the switch to Money 2000, then 2001. I recently downloaded Money 2002 Trial version and was very happy with it which lead to my purchase of Money 2002 Deluxe.

Here's some baseline stats on my system:
AMD Athlon 1G with 256 MB RAM. My money file is about 17MB large (containing all transactions since 1991).

Things I really liked:
- reports run much faster now. (in Money 2001, reports used to take 30-60 seconds; now they take less than 10 seconds; this is still much slower than Quicken's, but is improving).
- "Income vs. Spending Over time" graph is now part of the report. This allows for graphing monthly income vs. expense side-by-side. This was alwasy available in Quicken, but not in Money till 2002.
- Very clean and nice GUI
- Customizable home page with Follow-up notes, Spending Progress, Flagged transactions.
- Reconciliation with online bank or charge card downloads are much more intuitive and easy over 2001. [Make sure you turn off automatic Accept in Options].
- transaction data entry, download reconciliation, and reports all have their performances improved much.
- auto backup of the 17MB file is much quicker now than in 2001.

Other reviewers have disliked some Money behaviors, but most of them can be changed via "Options".
- ads can be turned off
- registration reminders can be turned off
- MoneySide can be turned off
- Auto Accepts during download can be turned off

Overall, MS Money 2002 is much improved over 2001 in performance and features and GUI.
