Summary: I thought the "wasted opportunity" guy was a big complainer
Review: (...)picked this up at Fry's yesterday and they literally couldn't have done less. It's a regular game-sized box, with the following contents:

(1) CD

Yup, that's it. And there's nothing special on the CD, either. Just DOOM. Not even an accelerated port of it - not a problem for me, as they're all over the net, but c'mon. No 3d accelleration out of the box? Gaaaay. Just their last "doom95.exe" Windows port.

Again, they literally could not have done less. As "The Complainer" pointed out, they could have included a poster, or a soundtrack CD, or a T-shirt, or a pewter Cacodemon (oooo! I want that!), or a tin box, or FREAKING ANYTHING TO MERIT THE "COLLECTOR'S EDITION" MONIKER, but no.

Seriously, though, having said all that, I'm not bitter - it was (dollar amount), and I wanted the games. The price was fine, and I lost my original DOOM][ CD long ago - I needed these games and will probably play them more than most other games I own currently or that I get as gifts this holiday season. They're the real stuff.

Summary: Great Classic made better by using Jdoom
Review: After installing the colelctor's edition, i found that my mouse and joystick would not work. After searching for help, i found references to jdoom (jdoom.newdoom.com). After installing and configuring jdoom to use the doom iwads, its like playing a new game. jdoom uses hardware accelaration and 3d models for the monsters. i am enjoying doom all over again.

Summary: A Classic!!!
Review: Anyone who immediately fell in love with the Doom series when it first came out will love the return to the fun that this bundle brings. Perfect for those rainy days when you don't feel like getting involved in a serious game, but want to vent your boredom. I'm still in love with Doom!!!

Summary: It's Doom!
Review: Didn't matter if you owned a Macintosh or a Windows PC back in the early-to-mid 90's, Doom was it! The pixelated monsters and the bloody, dark, hellish levels and atmosphere was nothing like you had ever seen on your 13" monitor. The Midi soundtrack, the possibilities, the action, the fun, the immersion, Doom is what started it all in the FPS genre.

Doom is a nostalgic romp for those of us who got high on 3D graphics when they were first introduced back in the day, and if only they could release a boxed version tweaked to run on today's PC's without hassle, it'd be even better. If you buy this set, be sure to check out jdoom.com and download the 3D patches for the game to enjoy it in a tolerable 3D mode for today's PC's.

I don't know that younger people will feel as strongly about Doom I&II and Ultimate Doom as someone like myself and others in their late 20's and early 30's, but if you want to know what it was like back then, check it out.

Doom is a classic that compares to what Pac Man, Donkey Kong and Pong did for video games.

Summary: A great collection, but...
Review: Doom Collector's Edition contains the original Ultimate Doom, Doom II, and Final Doom all on 1 CD Rom. These are 3 of the greatest computer games ever released, so this is a fantastic collection. But, everything isn't perfect here. The 3 games are simply the original Windows 95 versions. Nothing has been added or modified to take advantage of today's computers. This means that all mouse support is absent under Windows 2000. And USB mice will likely not work under any OS. Also unchanged is the game's control scheme. There is still no single button command for right or left strafing. Strafing is still done by holding the strafe button and pushing the direction that you want to go. This means that you can't circle-strafe with the standard conrtols. Circle-strafing is more like octogon-strafing here. You must strafe, then turn, then strafe, then turn, etc to make a circle. You can use a programmable gamepad to solve this problem by mapping the 2 button strafe command to a single button, but this shouldn't have to be done on a game released in 2003. I also would have liked to see added 3D accelerator support as an option.
As it is, this collection still contains some of the best games ever made, but it's simply been thrown together by Activision to cash in on the Doom 3 hype.

Summary: Doom is great. this collector's edition.... maybe not
Review: Doom is a great game. it was the most advanced of its time (early 90's) and probably the only really good game back then. however, this collector's edition box really is nothing. in the box: one doom collector's edition cd. that's it. there is nothing else in there but the box. no certificate, although the paper in the case labeling it "DOOM collectors edition" has a number on it, but it is barely noticeable. however, if you have never played DOOM and want to experience, then buy it. it has extra chapters that are not found on the shareware version. meh, but i returned it and got black and white instead. the CD only holds 108 megs of data and can run on my AMD k6 2 350 MHZ with a SiS 530 integrated graphics chipset with 8 megs of shared grafix RAM. good game, bad package.

Summary: Doom is simply a classic
Review: Doom is a really fun game...., okay it's old..., okay, the graphic are granular, the it self is just AMAZING :P ! ! !
First, for one of you who are wondering about the graphic (VGA 320x200) that's really messy... this is not a problem anymore, on [url] Section Doom Port, they got plenty of utils to play doom, in 640x480, or 800x600...
But that's not all, they have utils that suport Open Gl, and DirectX 3d... so the graphic are pretty nice, and light effect ect... here is the site for the program im talking you about, Legacy, [url]
and buying this game is a really good choice... ;)

Summary: Doom
Review: Doom is a very good first person shooter and next to wolf3D it is the greatest game ever made. Wolf3D is the grand daddy of morden 3D games but it was Doom which made the world sit and take notice. Without Doom there would be no multiplayer tournaments, I think doom is the game which started the multiplayer games with co-operative and deathmatch gameplay. You play a soldier sent to another planet to destroy the aliens and save the world, The gameplay is very good and the controls are very easy to use. The length of all the games are very good. Finally i think an OpenGL patch for Doom called GLDoom was made by a gamer using the doom source code. I read that on the net a long time ago. They could have included that patch in this edition. If you like doom then get Heretic, Hexen and Wolfenstein3D you will like them too.
