Summary: Watch out on Win 98 w/DirectX 8.1
Review: Even though I have 256 Mb, I have found this one to be quite flaky under Windows 98. It randomly fails to load games properly under DirectX 8.1, which then procede to eat system resources until the system crashes. MS has been unable to resolve the problem (and, the first time, the registration # it gave me was faulty and they wanted me to pay for support, had to re-install and get a new # before I could even get them to acknowledge my existance w/o a credit card...). Even when the games do work, they are generally poor adaptations. For much better emulation, get MAME and download the original game ROMS at www.mame.dk. Sorry for the sour grapes. Expect that those running later versions of Windows or earlier versions of DirectX might be in better shape.

Summary: These games bring back some GREAT memories!
Review: How many of my quarters supplemented the diet of a dot-munching yellow creature? How many hours did I spend tunnelling under the ground, battling creatures named "Pooka" and "Fygar"? The five games on this CD-ROM--"Pac-Man," "Ms. Pac-Man," "Dig-Dug," "Galaxian" and "Pole Position"--were impossible to resist in the video arcades. Even when newer, more sophisticated games came along, I still found myself drawn to these straightforward, yet wonderfully addictive games. They're all coin-op classics, and deservedly so.

Twenty years later, they're back, and they all look, sound and play just the way I remember them. If you played these games in the arcades, you remember how much fun they were. If you grew up playing a later generation of games, do yourself a favor and discover the magic of these classics.

One drawback: A few of these games--"Pac-Man" in particular--can be awkward to control using directional keypad buttons, unless you're really adept with them (I'm not.) My suggestion: Get a joystick, if you don't already have one. It will add immensely to the "in the arcade" feeling and enhance your enjoyment of these wonderful games.

Summary: BEWARE! Does not work on Windows 2000
Review: I bought this game based on the other three reviews (all positive), but couldn't be more disappointed. The video quality is poor (circa 1970) and there are better games available for FREE downloaded off the Internet than what this disc provides. My son (who is a very bright 6 year old) was bored after a short time, and so I played each game to see for myself. I can understand his boredom: These games, although they may have some "retro" sentimental value to adults, are not interesting to kids because the graphics and sound are primitive-looking and do not even come close to comparing to other games that are currently available to kids and are in his library already. He is accustomed to newer software with better "bells and whistles" rather than these old-fashioned games. ...-- save your money!!! It is better spent elsewhere for the value you would receive from this ...

Summary: Crude graphics, but sophisticated fun!
Review: I can't believe there's a review from someone who complains that the arcade games in this set have crude graphics. No kidding, but if you were a teenager in the 80s, these are among the sweetest sights and sounds you'll ever know. For every one of us who looked forward to the home version of Pac-Man in the 80's, only to get the lackluster, bland, and even cruder Atari 2600 version, this is sweet revenge. You can finally play the actual game in your house. And somehow, each time you play, the taste of New Coke, or the sounds of Hall & Oates or Michael Jackson seem to come along into your mind. Don't be surprised if you start wondering if you have time to finish your algebra homework. It takes you back to high school in the 80s. Maybe if you weren't around back then, you can't appreciate it. But for me, I'd rather sit and watch these crude shaped ghosts chase Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man than those supposedly more sophisticated versions of the games that were recently released. They may have superb graphics, but they lack the most important thing... charm!

Summary: BEWARE! Does not work on Windows 2000
Review: I just bought this as a present, but, although it is made by Microsoft, unbelievably it does not run on Windows 2000! So the person who received it has not been able to try it out. How could Microsoft possibly do that? Also, a more prominent warning to that effect should be placed on the Amazon add.

That being said, it is probably very fun, but I have to put 1 star -- because of what Microsoft has done here, we have not been able to try it out!
