Summary: Here is why people have still been playing it since 1995
Review: The original Doom was such and incredible first person shooter they had to make a totally new 32 level Doom with lots more monsters, such as the Chain Gunner, the Pain Elemental, the Arch Vile and others, but still the same old weapons and graphics. My second point is the fact that they are still selling Doom 2, they are no longer selling the original Doom except for in a bundle. So since 1995 and the game is still around and selling strong, must mean something! So what is Doom 2? In Doom 2 you are a soldier just coming off of a mission in space (Doom 1), so you must return to planet Earth only to discover it has been taken over and then from there go into the heart of it all, Hades and destroy the monster behind it all. The levels are incredibly detailed with 100s of new wall textures, where you actually believe you are in a city slum overrun by monsters, and you go to the lair of the monsters to destroy the big bad bosses. With that being said, why are people still playing it? Because Doom 2 is the surface beneath it all is a whole community that supports Doom 2 by creating new levels, some easy and simple, others 64 levels of pure pain continuing the saga or starting a new saga, with new enemies, new wall textures and fun. There are even expansion packs sold with 1000s of new levels to keep you playing forever beyond the original Doom 2!

Summary: Doom 2 Forever. and Ever.
Review: This game has changed the world. Before Doom 2 obviously was Doom. The game has introduced the FPS, or first person shooter. I myself have the doom collectors edition. It includes doom, doom 2, and Final Doom(TNT and the plutonia Experiment). Doom, however, is very old(over 10!) and doom 2 is turning 10 this year. Well, anyway, before my closing comment, i'd like to say this game is robably going to last for 10 more years(including Doom 3) until we are all writing on how legendary Doom 3 was and how it is all old. Aging is never a problem with games, its just if they are updated or not. Doom and Doom 2 were updated, with WADs, as you can create your own levels, episodes, and even games(such as final doom). My closing statement is:

I seem to be having a problem with my Doom Collectors Edition. The way the weapon is positioned in the game isnt right. It seems to have sunk lower, and if i get rid of the bottom dashboard, then it returns to the position it should of been while i had the dashboard up. I dont know how to position the screen.

Summary: It's not for children
Review: This game is fun if you like shooters but it is very violent and gory so it's not for kids. I believe that there is a bit too many "decorations" (ex. dead guys and severed limbs).
The graphics are good, and the animation is acceptable. But once you play a few of the missions it becomes boring. If you like to kill it's the right game for you. You may find yourself stranded in one area of the map if you don't find the keycard. Sometimes it's just too complicated for a 3d shooter.
Overall it's okay.

Summary: Fun
Review: This game is fun, challenging, difficult, creepy, and the only game I've ever liked, but gets boring real easily unless you use cheats. The graphics are well done and the game has well arcitecture and animated characters. The music is kewl, and the sound is OK. Alright, multiplayer is a blast, especially in coop. The demons, and mayhem is just intensifyingly addicting. I love this game. It's cool!

Summary: DooM 2: Hell on Earth
Review: This game is great!!! (...)The game is really fun and has some great graphics for a game made in its day. One last thing, the last boss, Tchenobog, is just a wall orniment, use the cliping code to see the 'true' boss behind him.

Summary: Classic!
Review: This game is truly a classic. Improvements over the last edition, especially in graphics, make this game even better! It us a lot of fun to play, and the gameplay is quite solid. This is a solid buy.

Summary: Was good back in 1995
Review: This game was fun and state of the art in 1995. The graphics no doubt will be really out of date even compared to the worst of what is offered today. The game was one of a kind in its day, and if your looking for 35+ levels of ancient fun, then this is it. The game gets 4 stars for being original and fun in its day. This game was soo good that the designers became multi-millionaires and now drive around in turbo-ferraris. This was the only game i "purchased" from 1994-2000. The only one that was worth it.

Summary: Once upon a time it was the best out there.
Review: This game was once the best one could find in the computer world. Those days have passed, but this game makes a low cost find for those searching for a way to pass the time on lower end computers.

Summary: really great game
Review: this is the best shooter ive played so far (but im hopeing that doom 3 will be better) i like the new enemies and weapons like the super shotgun, the arch vile, and the fat guys with the cannon arms. the thing that always catches me is the fact that u can go around a corner, and all of a sudden a tough enemy like the baron of hell appears and jumps me. i been playing doom games since i was 5. there some of the greatest shooters next to james bond games and the new gamecube metroid games. i reccomend this game to any hardcore shooter fan, or anyone who enjoyed the first game

Summary: Still the best
Review: This landmark FPS has likely owned more of my life than any other single activity, no exaggeration. Of all the Dooms currently in full release, this is my favorite. It's larger, it's harder, it's eviller, and it's got more lovable carnage than you can shake a chainsaw at.

During the peak of the Doom craze in the mid/late 90s, I was part of that group of hopeless addicts who lived and breathed Doom day in and day out, loving it all the way (at least until I developed chronic headaches and had to give it up). What gives Doom 2 such a charm for me? Well, it has everything the first game has, except possibly the "classic" feel that still sends me back to the original on occasion. Now, some have complained that not enough new things were added to this game. I have decided, however, that the real important change is in the style of level design. They are more maze-like, they are much more difficult, and the puzzles are more complex. And, as the later levels attest, they are much, much weirder. For the level-builders among us, the new triggers and the higher 256-linedef visibility limit allows us more possibility for design than the original. The super-shotgun is a fantastic edition, allowing the player to economize bullets when facing enemies such as the demon/specter and the chaingun zombie. Some of the added enemies are rather annoying, such as the Revenant, the Pain Elemental, and the menacing Arch-Vile, who may be the most dangerous enemy in all of Doom. And then there's John Romero's head and the now-famous backwards announcement that greets players as they come upon the huge demon face in level 30...

After Doom 2, the flood of FPS's looking to capitalize on the craze traded in long-term gameplay value for nice-looking graphics and a few bells and whistles here and there. (A true heir would not appear until Half-life.) Doom, obviously, is very primitive compared to what we have today. But it has stood the test of time better than any other shooter, unquestionably. Years later, it's less about winning the game than it is about the sheer fun of shooting up a roomful of monsters. There's something undeniably pleasurable about the primal act of pulling a trigger and blowing away a demonspawn. Doom speaks to the animal within you. Therein lies its true worth.
