Summary: Not good...
Review: This is just a quick initial review... Save your money if you are looking at buying the PC version.

I bought the PC version of this game which is usually far superior to the Playstation versions... The game looks like it has potential but the graphics are skippy and the gameplay is hard to control. I have all the recommended hardware to run this game but I guess it is not enough because it isn't very much fun to play...

Hopefully the Playstation II verstion will be better, stay clear of the PC version.

Summary: WOW
Review: This is the best you can earn player cards to give your players a boost. You can trade, release players, you can custimize your own hockey team even the jersey. I have NHL 2000 and this game is alot better all I can say is WOW this game is the bomb!!!!!!!1

Summary: Awesome gameplay
Review: This is the coolest game on ice and the PC version lives up to it. With Super Mario on the box, I knew it was going to be good (even though it doesn't look like him in the game play). Right down to Johan Hedberg's Blue Moose mask, this game rocks. The players faces are a bit off, but the improved gameplay makes up for all this. It was a delight buying it today! I got my butt kicked on the medium skill level. A MUST buy.

Summary: you will play it until 2003 is released
Review: this thing is so much fun, you can still create your own player. The graphics are the best the faces are a little to unreal though. The gameplay is fast and the only thins that are wrong with this game is the announcer guy is ANNOYING as heck and the NHL cards are kinda gay.

Summary: Love This Game Because It's Fun
Review: Well, when I first got this game 5 days after its release, I can say for sure that this is one of the best hockey games I've ever played. Though, the last EA Sports game I bought was NHL 99, and the rest I played were demos, this is by far one of the best concoctions.

Some of the new features that give it a "story-like" feel may annoy some users. These include the 3-time replay of great saves and big hits during gameplay, which might make the user lose his/her sense of the moment until the replay ends. Also, when you are breaking away, the screen just tints blue and makes a heartbeat sound is probably one of the features I don't like about the game.

The NHL Cards are a new thing. I really have no opinions about this because these cards are more like cheats and special abilities which might turn away people in the wrong way. Though, it also gives more unpredictability to the game (except for the cheats). Luckily, it could be disabled on a per-game basis.

The AI has improved over the NHL 2001 demo I played. The goals made by the computer looks more skilled now than NHL games of before. It doesn't look like the CPU decided to score at that time, but the AI makes an effort to make a goal like any other player. In fact, I'm able to make goals farther from the net, which evens out the playing field. Also, the defense of the computer doesn't include trying to check you at every moment. It seems to try to poke check you and loosen the puck a lot of times, which gives you some chances to recover.

Anyway, soon I will be trying to play online via EA's Match Maker. Though, users should know that you can only play online until October 1, 2002, where they probably cut us all off so that we buy a new version of the NHL series.

BTW, those gamers who want a real simulation might want to look elsewhere. There is a big tradeoff made between fun in general and realness.

I love this game and it would become a classic in my collection.

Summary: It was great at first, but it has gone down since
Review: When I first got this game, I was excited. All kinds of great and interesting features. The game was more difficult than the previous game (2001). But once I got used to the controls, it is easy again. The first game I played, I lost. The next one I won by two goals. Now I am on my fourteenth game and I am winning by twenty goals. Also the "zoom" in feature on the breakaways is getting annoying. Overall, this is a good game. I still do love playing it. But it has the same problems as the last one (2001) with left handed shoots being able to beat almost every goalie. The one thing that does make this game great is the computer is actively trading. So far, the Dallas Stars have almost traded 25% of their team. But it is great. A team is struggling, and the computer starts proposing trades to try and improve the team. That figure is the best part of the game.
