Summary: More of the same with great graphics !!!
Review: Hi, I have purchased EA FIFA games since FIFA 97, and still think that the best was EA World Cup 98. Yes, the graphics are better than ever (at least in my PC, a PIII 550 MHz, Viper V770 Riva TNT2 32 MB) but the game is still the same. With FIFA 99 and earlier you could make some great movements combinations using Ctrl and alt buttons but with FIFA 2001 you can make very repetitive and stupid movements.

Something better: the computer defense and the guard movements.

PLEASE EA SPORT PROGRAMMERS: Dont work so much with the video, its already good, make time on the essence of the game, it needs it !!!.

Summary: This game is ridiculous
Review: I don't know what EA Sports are doing. I have played 97 to 2001 of the FIFA series, and I found some interesting things. Indeed, the graphics are improving, but the game play are worsening. There is no way to call this a good simulation game. Do you expect the golie to fly around and make impossible moves? Do you expect a player to spin 3 times in a row to avoid tackles? Do you expect each player to use overhead kick that easily? EA Sport has insulted every single soccer player, and the world of soccer. If FIFA 2002 were going to be similar of worse than 2001, I think EA Sports should stop right away. EA Sports deserves no right to develop soccer games.

Summary: Getting Better All the Time
Review: I have followed EA's FIFA game since 1996 and the 2001 version has hit a new high. I was somewhat disappointed by the 2000 version but the 2001 version has made up for it. It incorporates superior graphics and a much more realistic gameplay experience (especially from the Tower cam).

Summary: Not as Advertised
Review: I have four reasons why this game is disappointing to me: 1. It does not include all of the FIFA teams. It excludes Iran, for example. I don't know how the other reviewer says it includes Iran, because my copy does not, and I bought the game to play that team. 2. There is no real training session. Sure you can play a training game between two 7 man teams and there are various scenarios. But the game definitely lacks one on one training sessions so that a player can get used to the various controller moves, kicks, turns, etc. That's how real training occurs and that's how teams improve. I am surprised that it was not included. 3. You can create a custom team but you can't play them in tournaments. So what's the point. 4. After awhile the AI shows its limitations. The computer player hits the goal most of the time, and invariably takes the ball away. Graphics are excellent and the commentary is cute, although who picks the music? I'd like to insert my own MP3 files if I want to listen to something.. Because of the above reasons, I am really disappointed in the game.

Summary: Good Graphics but Subject Game play
Review: I have owned all of the FIFA titles since their inception, and this one does offer refinements in visual/graphics, especially in the smooth animated replays, etc. The players do react with more realism, i.e. if you shoot the ball and an opponent is in the line of fire, the ball bounces off of them, and the opponent stumbles to the ground. Despite the added realism, I still find the game play a little to be desired. To make long passes you need to do a through pass (not really directed at another player) or do a long lob pass. The crisp clean snap passes of FIFA 99 (still my favorite version) are non-existent - when you pass the ball it travels slowly - Yes, you can speed up game play a bit, but the ball never seems to make it as far as you could kick it in real life. Thus, it is easier to intercept passes just by walking in the way of them. While the players move smoothly and look great on screen, it just isn't as fun to play as FIFA 99. I didn't like FIFA 2000 much at all for its game play either. It takes forever to build up a nice one touch, crisp passing offensive move, because the weak passes prohibit you from using players more than a few yards away from you (unless you do a long lob). Maybe I am missing something, but the game play just doesn't encapture me as much as I thought it would. NHL 2001 is much more fun to play than this hands down. If ranked into diff categories, I would give FIFA 2001 a score of 5 for graphics and 3 for game play.

Summary: Finally, EA got it right! (for the most part)
Review: I own FIFA 99 and 2000 which seem quite inferior compared to FIFA 2001 in terms of gameplay. This game plays and feels like a real soccer match would, the commentary, while somewhat repetitive, is still an improvement over the previous two games. Also, the difficulty level is challenging but not impossible, another improvement over the previous two games. The only things i didnt like about this game were that the goalie is still a bit sluggish and that passing can be a real pain in the kisser without lobbing or through passing. Other than that though, great game I must say.

Summary: Soccer is da bomb and so is this game...
Review: I remember playing with my brother, FIFA 95 on my old SNES (funny that I refer to my SNES as old like an Atari)and we loved every minute of it. Sure it wasn't 3D accelerated but it was so fun. But after my brother left for college, I lost track of the FIFA series until he brought to me. He told me that it was unlike any soccer game he had ever seen. I played against him and me being totally new to the new 3D universe, lost to him horriblely. I just liked to tackle his goalie when he had possesion of the ball. My first game with him, I did nothing but aggresive tackles and only got called on like twice throughout the entire game. He was pissed because he said usually the refs call those all the time. It was then I learned that the ref AI was actually impressive. Some games, the refs won't pay attention (like most of the time) and other times they are extremely strict. You can pull off some sneaky stratigies by tackling somebody when the ref isn't looking and getting away with it. After only a half a week I had mastered the game. I love Manchester United and personally I felt they were depicted very accurately. Now some of the reviews you have read so far, comment that the AI is pathetic...well thats mainly because the AI isn't totally dependent of your control. You are the one that controls them most of the game. Now your Opposition's AI can be slow at times but thats mainly due to the team too. Some reviews also comment that this game sucks if you don't have a 3D accelerator...well duh...most new games will if you don't...if you want to have a treat to see fluid body motions and bicycle kicks (ya gotta love the...and they are easy to perform b/c the AI automatically set itself up for them) this is the game. I highly recommend this game! Good music too....it adds to the atmosphere of the game.

Summary: Read this before you buy
Review: I struggled quite a bit on whether or not to buy this game. I read lots of reviews, both on Amazon and other sites, and even downloaded the demo from EAsports.com. After such a long debate, I decided that I should just shutup and buy the darn thing and see what I truly thought.

I've played quite a few EA FIFA games in the past, including EA World Cup 98. This games plays similarly, but let me skip all the generic stuff you read and get to the point: This game is just really not worth it. The graphics are great, but there's really only 4 or so different stadiums, the tournaments are very limited, and the options on the game in general are almost insulting. I feel like I'm playing a game back in 96 or 97. One major problem I have with this game, and it's rather specific and pointed out in other reviews, is that everytime I cross the ball into the box, your target always goes for a ridiculous bicycle kick! It may seem trivial, but this gets old VERY quickly. No headers, or normal one-timers off the foot, but rather an elaborate bicycle kick that tends to score most times that you connect. It makes me feel like I'm playing one of those kiddie 2-on-2 extreme basketball games where the ball catches on fire and the players are doing flips before each earth-shattering dunk.

So without getting too long winded, I was pretty disappointed. Don't be pulled in by the great graphics - and they are pretty cool - because the playability is just so ridiculous, and the game play options so limited (even more limited than previous games, which seemed odd to me that they would have not only not progressed, but seemingly reverted back to older versions.)

I hope for the next FIFA release that EA accepts the current graphics as adequate, and spends all their time and energy on upgrading the options and creating a more realistic game.

Summary: Great but not too great!
Review: I surely recommend people to buy this game because of its valuable graphics detail and quality of effort that was put into this exciting game. Indeed, it has a lot of difference with fifa soccer 2000 or fifa soccer '99. In the game, you will see linesmen, coaches, and substitute players in the bench. But on previous games, these weren't available and so they had made the games missing the realisms. In game modes, you'll be able to play friendlies, tournaments, practice modes and season championships! With a touch of sadness, i have to inform people that this game, although the outstandment, may also be eleptical to people. So please be aware of that and make sure if you buy this game, you must have an appropriat time for it when you're surely not tired or exhuasted to play or great danger will happen!

Summary: FIFA games are constantly going down.
Review: I think that FIFA games are starting to go down. Their best game was FIFA 99. FIFA 2000 was OK, but FIFA 2001 is a shame for those, who make the game. Gameplay is one of the worst. If you don't have a 3D accelerator card installed, then the graphics in the game are just pathetic. Everything else is the same -- goalies are still flying and making impossible saves, game is fast, AI is still very unhelpful. Overall, I am really sorry about my money that I spent on this game.
