Summary: Terrible Game! Don't waste your money!
Review: Do NOT waste your money on this game. Save it until Shadowbane or Neverwinter Nights comes out. Save it for computer upgrades... if you spend money on this game you might as well be burning it.

I have had nothing but HORRIBLE experinces with CodeMasters and their ingame moderation. I used to play the game, and I for one am glad I quit. I wasted something worse than money: TIME.

The Moderators and Guides on this game seem to have a "god" complex, in which they do their best to control everyone around them. They are extreamly senseitory, and allow NOTHING that even REMOTELY goes against them be said. If you want to see just how they are you can go over to the Realm Message Board. You have to buy an account to even LOG IN, and once you have an account it is directly linked to their message boards so if you say anything they don't like they will take action against your account.

Also the game is poorly updated. When it is updated it is updated with usless content. For example: Despite the fact that the game play is horrible, the economy is completely unbalanced, and the game has no point -- the ONLY implimenter (programmer) has only added hats to the game in the last SIX Months. (And they were horribly done at that, and didn't go with the rest of the character artwork.)

The game is also terribly outdated -- orginally owned by Sierra and created in 1996. It has a long history, and most of which is bad.

The community around the game is horrible for young children as many "adult" (Males AND Females ranging from 30-45) rutenly seek out young children who are under 18 years of age to "cyber" with. They also use lures of in game items to attempt to move their relationship into real life -- extreamly dangerious place for your children.

There is nothing good about this game that I could possibly say. Every aspect of it is bad, and to make matters worse CodeMasters is using the same Moderators and Customer Base for their upcoming MMORPG: Dragon Empires. When it comes out I will be sure to warn everyone who thinks about buying that game of the same problems and dangers they may face again...

Summary: The Realm - Great at what it is for.
Review: First of all, Sirbenny and Asterix who wrote reviews here are both realm staff. (i.e. the oppressive moderators other poeple have mentioned) Now, Some people are complaining about moderation here, and some have been affected by strong moderation, but generally it is not as bad as these people make it out to be. They are most likely just people with gripes. I have played realm for about 5 years now, and have never had any problems.

The game is a lot like a throwback to an old sierra game like kings quest or quest for glory. The graphics are similar, and play is similar. (this game was actually originally developed by sierra, then bought)

Updates come sometimes.. not as frequently as most would like.

Basically what I would say is buy it and try it if you liked the old sierra games. The fee is cheaper than almost any other mmorpg's, and it is worth it in my opinion.

Summary: the good, the bad ,and the moderated
Review: Having played Realm for about 4years i finally broke free..
aka "gandster" my favorite mod was REDS and for the most part had very little problems until the change of the GUI...older systems had a heck of a time..but in all honesty i had alot of fun...its a turn based kinda game...unlike Diablo, or other hack and slash, pvping wasnt really to much of a problem unless you turned pvp on,Mechs there pretty much left most players to themselves and stuck /w fighting other pvpers...however..i do miss the old Devil trick bug *sigh*..the dungeons are quite interesting..and baby dragons (looking like a 50ft python) can be alil worrying facing them for the first time...townies seems to be in every town and love to gab...well there paying for it..
I left after pretty much going as far as i though i could and yes the promise of more updates just never seem to come...moderated channels have and will always be a pain..stay off them if you have something to say, most everything is turned to "offend" someone and mods pretty much make up the rules as they go...solo or groups the game for me was fun either way...
And A happy wave to all my old TrollBraggers

Summary: Realm review from someone who has played since day 1.
Review: I have been playing Realm since it was originally released in Feb 96 so I have quite a bit of experience with it. Chat is excellent and well structured. Approx 600 plus people are playing it at any given time so it's easy to find someone to hunt with. The 2D graphics bring back fond memories of earlier games plus for those not having the latest computer hardware you can still play the game without having to upgrade or buy a new system. The Realm staff, both Guides and Moderators, are extremely helpful and knowledgeable and you can find at least one of them on at any hour of the day or night. Players also have the chance to advance to Guide or Moderator and make Realm even better. Definately get this game!!

Summary: The Realm- its a great place to play
Review: Looking for a place to relax, chat with new & old friends while maybe taking a whack at some monsters? Then The Realm is a great place to be. Realm is a very community oriented game, and its loyal fan base is what's kept it alive in the face of fancier games like EQ, & UO Ect. People sometimes leave to try out those other games.. but just like home they always come back. Chat with people all over the US & the world, brave dark dungeons alone or in groups, participate in quests and you don't have to have a brand spankin new computer to run the game, and it won't suck all the cash from your bank account to play! Online Moderators work hard to keep the game "family friendly" game guides are busy helping new & old players. The Realm is a great place to be.. so what are you waiting for?

Summary: The honest truth
Review: Ok this game is NOT for anyone who wishes to enjoy themselves.

The game consists of very power abusive moderators, who also thrive on favouritism and [rear] kissing from the players.
The game is rarely updated PROPERLY, The updates are usually hacker fixes but that is a load of [junk] cos the game isn't worth hacking (Stop flattering yourself with the hacker fixes)

The PvP system is a JOKE. Nuff Said
Character advancement is a JOKE. Nuff Said

The players that play this game right now hang around in town allday, being idiots and trying to make their [ugly] topless elves look cool (and they do a horrible job of it). And if they aren't doing they, they are cybering in private (Or in public if they are feeling open)

This.......game............[STINKS].........GET SHADOWBANE OR MORROWIND, BUT NOT THIS OR EVERQUEST.

Summary: Moderated chat room
Review: The Realm is a cute online game where you can watch your pixels stand and proudly show your townie items. The game really has no aim. Hunting or PvPing there is no fun. I've played it for more than a year and I enjoyed meeting people there and chatting, but with time moderators seemed to get worse and worse, always finding a reason(not stated in the Player's policy, which you can find on the Realm official website)to suspend accounts or delete posts on the message boards.

A good thing however is that you can find there people who are ready to pay with real money for pixelated items and accounts, so you can make a lot of cash even though it's against the game's Players policy. One thing you'll get quickly bored of is all the promises for good updates you'll never get.

If you want to pay for a chatroom where you'll probably get suspended for not thinking like one of the moderators, get this game. If you're smart, go to a normal free chatroom. You can have fun with this game if someone gives you an account for free or if you have a lot of money to waste, but if you care about what you do with your money, don't give it to Codemasters. I'd be careful with their upcoming MMORPG Dragon Empires too because it will have the same kind of moderation.
