Summary: Spectacular Game... If you can run it
Review: Soldier of Fortune is an engrossing, realistic, violent, and ultimately completely satifying FPS. While the gameplay itself offers little in the way of new ideas, it still proves to be a very fine example of the genre.

What raises the bar, however, is the exceptional detail provided by the modified Quake II engine which utilizes the GHOUL system for pinpointing 26 areas on the enemies' bodies for each of which there is a different reaction. A gut shot will cause intestines to spill out, a small caliber head wound will eject part of the brain, and shots to several areas on the arms and legs will causes the extremities to detach. The game is not for the faint of heart but does provide a password lock for gore. The absence of gore makes the game no less entertaining, but does detract from the uniqueness.

The only reason this game does not deserve five stars stems from the misleading system requirements. Unless you have a 400 or 500mhz processor and a darned good graphics card don't expect results to be pretty or fast-paced(the 233mhz on the box is bare minimum and lags often even at low detail settings.)

That said, if you can run it and don't mind some gratuitous violence this is one great game.

Summary: excellent game.......if you can get it to start
Review: I played one board on this game and found that it was the most fun I have had killing people in a long time. The most graphic violence I have seen and all at the fingertips. When I completed the first level the game returns to desktop for no apparent reason. When I contacted the company for help they tell you it could be many of various things, I narrowed the problem down to the sound card and a very popular card at that because I tried the game on 2 different computers and both have the same card. Read the problems before buying the game and see if you have the proper sound and video cards. But it is a GREAT game!

Summary: 'Realistic' First person shooter. All I can say is "WOW"
Review: Folks, I have played em all. And I can tell you that Soldier of Fortune is one of a kind. Some may disagree with me, but I say that it's the first realistic first person shooter next to maybe half life. I love the fact that if you shoot a guy in the leg, he hops around on one leg, and head shots are automatic death. I love the fact that when you cut a guy, there are actual slice marks and not bullet holes or nothing at all. I love the fact that there are 'actual' weapons to choose from instead.. say.. a worm shooter made out of an alien's spleen. Not to mention the great story line. When I look at a game like this compared to say, Quake 3.. I think, 'Why am I so bored with Quake3?' The reason is this.. Quake 3's single player stinks... If you want to enjoy it and many other games like it, you need a cable modem and play a decent deathmatch. However, Soldier of Fortune's single player mode was very well thought out with a planned storyline. The effect and suspense that the levels create is sometimes spooky... I am always catching myself tilting or moving my head so I can try to peek around that corner so I can see the bad guy, and then jumping when he appears behind me. If you want a game that doesn't require a cable modem to enjoy the game, soldier of fortune is a good bet.

Summary: Everything you need!
Review: This game is Everything a piece of plastic could hold: Gun's, Exotic locations, Blood, Gore, and tons of moving targets(if you get what I mean). Sure this game is not for the Sensitive non-violent type but for people like me (Who could even eat through it) it's everything you ever wanted. There are unique places you can shoot people. Shoot the guy in the leg and he screams in pain. If you whip out a shot gun and shoot the guy in the head there will be no head. Shotgun in the limbs the guy is limbless. Shoot him in the groin,, well I'd hate to be him. And even more shots but I wont spoil it. Well this game is worth the price all I could do is try to convince you to buy this game. You are only cheating yourself if you waste the [money] on another game.

Best way you could spend your gaming Dollar.

Summary: Overall good game. Has flaws. Be ready for blood.
Review: SoF is a bloody gory and occasionally disturbing FPS to even people who like movies such as fist of the north star. SoF is realistic which means its hard. Everyone i know is using the cheat codes. Slow systems havent a prayer on running this game. I would reccomend aiming higher than the system requirements. The game is overall fun but gets repetitive. No real puzzles except for turning on generators or shooting crates to reveal passageways. Arsenal is well chosen. Pretty fun but don't expect anything too challenging aside from people shooting at you. This game is for fans of testosterony action movies. One chief indicator is that at the end of EACH level, the main characters always seem to end up blowing something up in a huge explosion that they "dramatically" run away from.

Summary: An interesting, but fun game!
Review: I would not used the word loved but thought this game was fun when I first played it. As I started to get deeper into it I started to enjoy seeing the blood and arms and head falling off. I would not recomend this game to anyone that cannot handle blood, guts, violence(an extreme amount), or dark games. The graphics, sound, speed, and everything else are good. It is just the blood and horror and guts. LOL I admit I will play this game occasionally when I go to my freinds but I would much rather play Ragedy Ann before i go to bed instead of being afraid I am going to get my leg blown off. If you are a parent, I am not but I know if i had a kid i would not want him playing this game that often if at all, please play this before buying it. Thank you for your time!

Summary: What most shooter games aspire to be!
Review: I must say that all the other first person shooter games get lost in the wrong details. Compared to Rogue Spear or Special forces, this game is what shooters should be about: Blowing bad guys away. However, keep in mind that this game should not be given to the youngsters unless you install the violence controls. If you don't wallow in minutae that seems to be the trend, you will love this game for what its for: entertaining carnage. I must say that the only downside is that it is a monster on your hard drive. Be prepared to give up 500mb of space at least!

Summary: Good Game, Bad Speed
Review: So, your thinking of buying SoF! Big mistake unless you have a 500mgh Pentium Prossessor. I'm informing you to this because I too was exited about buying this game. I love buying thimgs from amazon.com, and I thought "of course this is good". I was wrong! The system requirements stated 200 pentium or higher. I met all the requirerments and still when I got SoF home it paused every minute. I couldn't even enjoy the things the "Good" reviews said, because all that was pointless with the SoF speed! Am I being too harsh? I don't think so! Now, I have a SoG Cd Lying on the floor, possibly never to be used again. Remember, Im not saying that SoF isn't good for everyone. It is ezellent if your computer can handle it. I recomend Pentum (or Athalon) 500mgz. Sincerely The Critic

Summary: How we needed a great FPS this year
Review: I've been rather dissopointed with the lack of post XMAS quality games. Thief 2 and Swat 3 have been worthy purchases and I was so glad the see the best FPS game of the year so far............SOF. The best FPS since Unreal Tournment some months ago this game is shades of Kingpin and Goldeneye. Unlike Kingpin though if you took away the gore this will still be a brilliant game. Its not the gore that makes it (altough its pervsersly enjoyable). The story line is good, took me about 12 hours gaming time to complete and the levels are VERY varied. From snow to desert to New York city it doesn't get boring. There are cut scenes rather than the free flowing storylines of Half LIfe and System Shock 2 but great weapons and great graphics/gameplay make this a worthy purchace. Excellant training to get you going, brilliant sniper rifle, abilty to lean round corners, ability to shoot and cut limbs of dead opponants. Not for the fiant hearted but brilliand none the less. Let me go shoot someone in the goolies then blow his head off one more time! - NO i am not a masacist!

Summary: Great game, mostly.
Review: This game has just about everything a first-person-shooter enthusiast would want. It has well designed levels, great graphics, good sound, and realistic weapons. The gore-zones add another cool element, albeit a grisly one. The only thing that Soldier of Fortune lacks is decent AI, which can be downright stupid at times. Also, to get the most out of the single player experience, you should use the custom difficulty setting and make it as hard as you dare. This is because on the medium difficulty setting, it is very, very easy, which might leave you feeling a little ripped-off. Other than these minor flaws, this game comes highly recommended, especially if you like your shooters gory.
