Summary: Total waste of money
Review: It's simply impossible to play the game longer than a few minutes, since it crashes down. I didn't experience any difficulties with other EA Sports games such as FIFA, NBA Live or GP500, but NHL 2001 is a big disappointment.

Summary: Causes problems with operating system
Review: Just 2 days after getting a new computer with 900 mhz and 32 MB RAM, I went to the mall to buy NHL 2001, among a couple of other games. Luckily, there was one copy left. So I forked over the forty dollars.
And I'm glad I did. The graphics are great and the amount of options is immense. It's neat to try out all the throwback jerseys, it's too bad they didn't have more! Many other customization options enhance the game, including fantasy drafts, and custom leagues with less teams. For newcomers, the controls are simple, and the gameplay is quickly masterable at the lower skill levels. But if you want a harder challenge, that is available as well. All in all, an excellent game!
A couple complaints. I tried recently to create an Original Six league with a fantasy draft so that the talent would be condensed. Well, I ended up with Ollie the Goalie as my starter, Patrick Roy as a backup, Khabibulin as 3rd string (lol), and an 8 game regular season. Problem is, i selected long season. If you think about it, a medium season would have been longer. Get this right EA, so that a long season is roughly the same number of games no matter how many teams!
Before I go, I bought NHL 2002 the other day, and the improvements aren't that huge. Most of the arcade features are annoying; some you can't turn off, like the bells that go off after a big hit. I'm not saying that it's a bad game, but it's just not a must-buy if you already have 2001. But if you don't have 2001, go for it, its worth the money, just like last year's.

Summary: Major Graphic Improvements, Minor Gameplay Upgrades
Review: Last year's EA NHL game was the best looking one to that point. This year, they've gone a step further. I won't go into a lot of detail here but let me say this: you will not find a better looking hockey game anywhere. Players talk to each other between faceoffs, lights are reflected in the helmets and the skating animations are better than last year.As for game play, it's not really a whole lot different than we've seen before. Simple button use is customizable if you want more options than 4 and the learning curve is fairly small. Neat new features include a momentum meter to show how the game is flowing, a custom jersey creator (which is much more limited than the name implies) and a shootout mode. Overall, if you are looking to be blown away by the next generation of NHL by EASports, you WILL be disapointed. If you've never played one of EA's hockey entries, you will be mightily impressed. If you can't decide which hockey game to play, this is the one.

Review: NHL 2001 is the best game I have ever played!The graphics along with the sounds and funcionality are the best I have ever seen in a game! When I played the demo for the first time and saw how cool the graphics are I wanted to buy the game right away! And for all of you who think this game stinks you're wrong! It's the best hockey game ever!

Summary: Should be worth 4 and a half, but not 5. Sorry.
Review: NHL 2001® is the by far one of the greatest game I've ever played. It's crisp 3D graphics, funny commentary by those two nuts, the fury and intensity of a thundering hip check by (or on) Lindros, and the pain of a 124 mph slapper stopped by the Dominator. Impressed? You should be. But there was just one thing that NHL 2001 didn't have, but NHL 2000 did. Realistic expressions. In NHL 2000, when you look in a replay and zoom in on Tkachuk's face as he is delivered a powerhouse hit from Pronger, you see his eyes squint in pain, and I could swear I saw his jaw crack. His mouth contorts in agony... well, anyway, this is the downside. Besides that fact, NHL 2001 is a definite yes yes or rent rent. I also like to correct the mistake those two nuts said for the taxes and Jagr joke. It's actually three things. Taxes, Jaromir Jagr not on the all-star team, and NHL 2001 not having realistic expressions when the almighty Domi or Lindros delivers the finishing punch or the death penalty hip check.

Review: Simply the best hockey game I have ever played. I took facial photos of me and my wife with a digital camera and created hockey players with our faces on them - WHAT A KICK!

Summary: It gets better and better with every release.
Review: The graphics on NHL 2001 are incredible (faces, helmet reflection, etc). This is the only EA Sports game that you can't totally dominate in rookie mode (You can adjust the Player and Goalie Boost to increase or decrease the level of difficulty). I wish the game had current rosters or free agents (e.g. I can't find Garth Snow on any roster. He was recently picked up by the Penguins) but other than that it's the best NHL Sim on the market.

Summary: NHL 2001 scores big time!
Review: The new NHL game from EA is a welcome improvement over last year's title, including sharper graphics, updated rosters and teams, and better gameplay. Online gaming is also available which can be accessed straight from NHL 2001's simple to use interface. The only thing really wrong with the title is that the color commentary quickly get's repetitive and tiresome, but fourtunately you have the option of turning it off and just enjoying the game. Whether you're a seasoned verteran or just starting to play for the first time, NHL 2001 will suit you good.
