Summary: Serious Launch Problems, Security Absent
Review: Hello,

Funcom really dropped the ball here. They didn't even secure their registration servers. Who is going to register using a credit card when someone could steal the information?

The game has had a terrible launch. I looked forward to it starting, but from the information posted online so far, this has bombed. Wait a few months if you want to avoid the frustration. EQ is frustrating at times, but it isn't anything compared to AO. You have been warned!

Summary: AO = crAsh and lag-a-lOt
Review: When the game works it is a great game. Problem is you rarely get to play long enough to experience it before you crashes. Of course to even try to play, you have to log in. Good luck with that. That is a challenge in it self. I tested in the Beta 4 phase (last phase before release) and in my opinion it should still be in beta. Don't spend money on this game any time soon. But if they ever manage to fix all those zillions of bugs, it is a game with great potential.

Summary: Server crash, server crash. every 5 minutes
Review: This game is not good for one reason and I hope it gets fixed. The servers will crash every 5 to 10 minutes after you spens a good 5 hours getting the thing installed.

Summary: WAIT!!!!
Review: All I can say is this game release is premature. The game looks great and I look forward to actually getting a chance to play it, because the concept and the graphics are great. HOWEVER, patching the game is a painful in a way you can never imagine. Okay, so the next day after crashes and disconnects and hours of yelling you patch the game. GREAT, lets go play the game. If you are lucky enough to connect, good luck on actually staying connected for more than minutes at a time, and if you do happen to get disconnected, expect to wait a long time before the 'dimension' you were in is active again. Also, I bought this game so I could play with friends...lo and behold when I actually made it thru the disconnects during the creation of my character I discovered I cant see my friends, or even group with them. I can send them tells, but thats about it. I'm sorry to say this game was released too early. Too many bugs and not enough information for the games is a bad thing. I am sorry I bought the game this early. A free month is offered with the game...but what good is this free month if you can NEVER play? All in all the game looks good...when you get the chance to play it for 3 minutes. And for anyone that is wondering, my computer is top of the line and fast, as is my internet. Putting up with trying to connect to the game is frustrating and ridiculous. I certainly hope it gets better...otherwise I think FUNCOM will leave a horrible taste in the mouth of all gamers...I certainly hope support gets better. Sorry, but the truth is sometimes painful.

Summary: Will be a good game someday...
Review: The premise of this mmorpg is a sci-fi power struggle between two groups: Omni-Tek, a super corporation, and the Clans, a large band of freedom fighters. You choose sides or you can stay neutral. Along the way, you eliminate monsters...lots of monster to gain xp to earn levels so you can earn even more levels. The graphics are wonderful and the sound effects are great. The gameplay is terrible ...right now. I hope they will fix all the problems they have soon. My problem with this game is: they should have done this BEFORE they released it to the public. Someday this will be a great game. Until it is, save your money and don't reward Funcom for rushing a product that is far from playable.

Summary: Funcom takes a new approach to MMORPG's
Review: Anarchy Online breaks new ground in customer satisfaction. And how can that be possible you ask? Simple, listen to what the real experianced players of massive multi online role playing games (MMORPG's) really what from an adventure. I have personally been involved in role playing games and more recently, online role playing games, for more than twenty years. And the one thing that any good RPG's offers each participant is a short and wonderious escape from the harsh realities of every day life. Funcom, the maker of Anarchy Online, has successfully provided each player with just that! This game has stunning 3-D sound, music, and graphics! Real enviromental hazards such as rushing waterfalls, toxic waste sites, and creature dangers of the wild outbacks. Most of the creatures, weapons, and ideas on magic function, are based on an advanced NANO TECHNOLOGY that the humans have evolved to using. I was fortunate enough to BETA test this game and will not ruin the surprise that this it has in store with all of its 3D lighting, shadowing, weather conditions, dramatic music, social interactions, and quest that tailored made for your specific character. I have played EQ AC and UO...This is the best so far!

Summary: Wait a month to buy
Review: I've played the beta for a while. I'll keep this short. Don't buy the game for at least 20-30 days. It has a lot of bugs to work out. The game crashed every 5 minutes or so and clipping planes are messed up. Walls seem to grow out toward you from the distance. I know it's only beta but this stuff should have been fixed before going live. As it is now, it's not even up to "release candidate" status. Give it 20 days or so. Read the message boards on aovault.stratics.com. When the posts die down about problems then consider getting it.

FYI - When creating a character to change levels and go through the process you are supposed to click on an orange arrow. On my system this arrow is not visible unless you are directly in front of it and in first person view. It took me almost 30 minutes to create my character because I was in 3rd person view. Dunno if this is another bug or not but it might save you some aggrevation.

Summary: MMORPG - new flavor
Review: Much has been said here comparing AO to EQ. Having played both, they are different sides of the same coin. Where EQ is Fanatsy, AO is High-Tech. EQ is group orienated where AO is more individual based.

The developers of AO have had the advantage of looking at what players have said was wrong with EQ and have tried to correct some of those problems. There is more flexablity in character development, more choices in "how you look", more variety in loot, no "camping" for loot and so forth. As a result, AO can be confusing, even for a veterian player. AO has tryed to make it easier by adding "shift-left click" on an object that supplies a description and use of the object.

To try and eliminate "camping", the developers have created "mission zones" which allow only one player or team to enter them. (You need a key to get in) It has worked to an extent, monsters are not "camped" but the mission generator is. :-)

So far, AO has proven to be good for people with limited play time as most mission only take a short time to complete. This will probably change at higher levels as the missions get more complicated. As for the variety of missions, I have only seen a few types but there are 6 or 7 factors that you can adjust when generating the mission.

AO has brought some new concepts to the world of MMORPG and it will be a matter of time before any of us know just how well they will work.

Summary: Not worth your money!
Review: Review - Anarchy Online

I am currently a member of the Beta community for Anarchy Online. For weeks now many of the community members have spent hours upon hours trying to solve countless unaddressed problems that FunCom are ignoring. To sum it up. Anarchy Online is an advanced and very graphical RPG, if you can get it to work. I personally believe that no self respecting programmer out there that would launch a game in a state like this. If you want to buy it, wait a few months.

Summary: Excellent Depth and Gameworld Marred by Early Instability
Review: This is the best MMORPG that I've seen, but its early instability, fatal crashes, annoying bugs, and general unreadiness for release make me worry that it the servers will flounder once the game hits the open market.
