Summary: Gamespot's best game of 2001
Review: I thought Gamespot (respectable gaming website) was insane in giving a budget title the GAME OF THE YEAR AWARD. Especially since this game involves so unoriginal...

I love originality. But I must admit. This game rocks.

It's got nothing that other games haven't tried before. Bad-ass wise-cracking heroes. Huge monsters. A number of weapons only a tank could carry. Monsters. Almost inexistant plot.

But the thing is, this game is FUN. The game sometimes reaches the point of utter insanity, literaly hundreds and hundreds of enemies swarming your way. There are no puzzles, there is no jumping platforms. It's just shooting shooting shooting.

What seems to strike me as the best part of it all are the weapons. Nothing incredibly original, you have the double-barrel shotgun, you have the machine gun, you have the rocket launcher, super-laser-weapon of sorts. But what amazes me is that every one of them is useful at one spot or another. There is no ultimate weapon. Even the most powerful weapon is useless at certain parts of the game.

The graphics are great. This is a great way to impress your friends with your new 3D card. If you don't have a good card, no biggie, just tone down to the bare minimums, and it'll work great.

I'm raving about the game, and I've never even tried online co-op, where you can go through the single-player levels with your online buddies. That supposedly is the best part of the game.

I would gladly pay full price for this kind of entertainment. The campaign is 5 hours long, but you can always go through it again. Games that are pure action don't get boring after the first go.

Serious Sam. It doesn't do anything new, but it does everything right. And in the end, that's all that matters.

Summary: C'Mon, it's 19 bucks.
Review: You've read the other reviews, I imagine. But one thing they may not mentioned is this -

1) it's 19 bucks!!!

2) It has one of the most enjoyable multiplayer elements of any game around. Basically, a co-op multiplayer mode that allows you to go through the entire game with 8 other people. This is a real blast, I tell you. If you have a decent internet connection (read - cable or DSL), couple of friends, and the yearning to be up ALL NIGHT, this is the game for you.

Summary: The best game since Doom.
Review: Andrenaline, action, and a theme that is fun to play. If you were hooked on Doom, this is the shooter for you. No complicated plots or other hyper-realism killjoys.

Also, supports co-op play, unlike most games nowadays!

Summary: You could do a lot worse with $20
Review: If they were trying to charge big bucks for this game I'd say forget it, but I'm adding my thumbs-up to all the other reviewers because it's a quality title for the price. Think of Serious Same as a graphic update to Doom. The game adds all the cool transparencies, lens flares, and other lighting effects, but it's pretty much a lot of running around in giant arenas and shooting everything that comes at you.

My only complaint is the shotgun is too slow to reload in my opinion compared to the other FPS's out there. You may find yourself using the rocket launcher more often. Don't expect much AI - they all just run at you and either blow up or start swinging. But it's a nice looking game and there's plenty of baddies to shoot down if you want to "kill" some time.

Summary: Back to Basics
Review: Serious Sam has all the markings of "Exhibit I" in the next round of Congressional hearings on violence in video games. It is also one of the best first person shooters to come out in a long time. Serious Sam brings back some old school Doom style carnage, and ratchets up the intensity with a game engine that can apparently handle thousands of enemies simultaneously. Graphically, Sam is no Quake III Team Arena, but the Egyptian themed levels are bright and beautiful. The character models are where Serious Sam showcases its best quality, its sense of humor. Sam is above all a funny game. You will know what I mean the first time you are attacked by a horde of suicidal, headless muscle men with bombs held aloft in each hand. As they charge directly at you, their retched screams grow louder and louder until finally, they throw themselves wildly upon you and detonate in one final act of double fisted jihadian insanity. Sounds hilarious right? Playing Sam for the first time, I realized that I was witnessing one of the most over the top, utterly inappropriate demonstrations of gratuitous violence I have seen up to this point in a video game. But a short time later, I also realized that in fact, whether intentional or not, Serious Sam is a ridiculous spoof on itself, and on the whole first person shooter genre. That alone makes the game funny (...). Sam's development team, which appeared on the scene from out of nowhere (actually from Croatia), deserves credit for going for the jugular with this game. Serious Sam has it all: single player, multiplayer, interesting weapons, great enemies, solid levels and maps, good audio, and lots of things to shoot. Oh yeah, and the story line (as if it matters)... something about aliens, something about time travel, something about saving the world. To sum it all up, buy this game and get ready to learn how to shoot while running backwards.

Summary: Serious Sam - In Serious Trouble
Review: Serious Sam is a game that follows the old traditional style of Games such as Doom, Dukenukem 3d, and possibly Wolfenstein 3D.
This game lacks in story definition and also fun factors. If you are looking for a game with the least amount of plotlines and alot of mindless shooting the enemy away, this is the game for you. Graphics are decent. Some of the characters appear so silly that it lacks what Dukenukem games had. There is one scene in level one where a couple weird mutants run up to you screaming with bombs in their hands. In my opinion this game just is not for me. Perhaps others would enjoy it.
Gameplay = 8/10
Graphics = 7/10
Sound = 7/10

Summary: Seriously Fun!
Review: If you enjoy intense action FPS games, buy this! There is NO down time in this game. you are constantly doing battle with multiple creatures, which get larger and more difficult as you move closer to the end. The AI leaves a little to be desired, but that would be my only complaint. This is a great game to play after work if you need to blow off steam and become totally absorbed in some mindless, shoot-em-up fun!

Summary: Serious Sam
Review: Serious Sam is an fps with a great action gameplay. You play Sam "Serious" Stone a charecter like Duke Nukem or Caleb of Blood who is sent back in time to save the world, The whole game takes place in Ancient Egypt with about 14 levels. I played it on the default OpenGL video mode, the graphics are fantastic as good as quake3. The textures look real. The levels are very big and the areas are very large with many wide-open spaces. I like the choice of weapons too. The saving and loading times are also good. It is not a game like half-life, The gameplay is just get from point A to Point B by shooting everything that moves, no puzzles solving and not many jumping too. There are not many different monstors but there will be loads of them comming on all sides, They respawn a lot but they dont cause much damage and it is not very hard getting them. Picking up ammo and health respawns the monstors, Infact if you find a locked door pick up the ammo and health packs lying arround, the monstors will come on all sides, and when you killed them all the door will open.The game is quite short but it has a great replay value and this game is not about completing it is about enjoying the action gameplay. The multiplayer, co-operative, and split screen modes and the very cheap price make serious sam really worth it. Serious Sam is one of the best action games i have ever played and it is a must have if you like action games.
