Summary: Why???
Review: EA Sports returns with their latest offering in the NBA Live Series: NBA Live 2001. Visually the game is better than its predecessor, but that is about where the improvements end. The game control is less fluid, the game flow less realistic than the 2000 version. This game plays more like the 99 run & gun style. The dunks are less spectacular, as the players seem to just barely get the ball over the rim. Furthermore, the game interface is less user friendly than the last game, with unneeded adjustments made in the name of...aesthetics? Although franchise mode and the post game have also both been updated, they come at the expense of player practicing (arguably the least unnecessary aspect of the game), three point shootout, and custom teams (arguably the most fun aspect of the previous games). I enjoyed matching my High School b-ball team up against the world's best players and hoped to be able to do the same with better gameplay and graphics. So far I've been disappinted on more than that count. Better luck next time EA Sports.

Summary: a big disappointment...
Review: EA Sports' NBA Live series has not disappointed me...until now. I was extremely excited to get this game. I even pre-ordered it. But it was all hype and no substance. Although the main reason is that it won't run on my machine (I have a laptop; as another reviewer noted, this game simply won't run on laptops), the game itself was not too great. All the review I read about the game were not too great. Then graphics and franchise mode are supposed to be great, and I believe that. But features that I was looking forward to, like Practice mode and 3-point shoot-out, and other nuances like Save Game, refs patrolling the court, and coaches by the benches are also gone. There are also some problems with gameplay and rosters. Compared to Live 2000, the graphics are better and the franchise mode is improved. But otherwise, 2000 is much better. It has all the features, and some bugs that are present are not fixed in 2001 anyways. I would recommend waiting for Live 2002, and hoping that it's better than this year's. If you can't wait, make sure you have the right equipment before you buy the game.

Summary: Not satisfied
Review: Every year I looked forward to buying the newest in the NBA-Live series, with each year getting better and better. I was very excited to be getting this game, thinking it would be the best, but I was wrong. This looks much like a step back for EA. Examples are, there is no referee, now the ball floats into the air magically again. The crowd looks like cartoons, with very bad animations. The players now look like cartoons as well. Little things like that may not seem important, but when it was better the year before it makes the game bad. Try Live 98, 99 or 2000 if you want a good game.

Summary: this game rocks
Review: I got my copy of nba live 2001 yesterday, the tenth of February. It feels like your in the game, it's so realistic. The gameplay is also excellent, with the controls easy to use. The AI has also improved. Now it is actually kind of hard to win against the computer, as it wasn't in nba live 2000 and 99. The facial animation and the create your own face is cool, as it was in 2000, but the improved graphics make it even better. I would recommend a fast computer if you want it to look its best. My friend couldn't run it (he has a his P2 400 and 16MB Voodoo card) with the resolution and graphics settings jacked up, but my Celeron 600 works fine. This has got to be the best sports game ever released on PC.

Summary: Great Game... One Mistake
Review: I got NBA Live 2001 a long time ago. It had awesome game play and cool dunks but their was one mistake. There weren't many shots that hit off of the rim and went in the net!! There were all swishes and backboards!! Overall, this game is a good buy and has great animation!!

Summary: Best ever.
Review: I'm a huge fan of the series, so it was with baited breath that I awaited this much-postponed release. So far, it hasn't disappointed me. Graphics: Amazing. Simply put, the best graphics of any PC game I have ever seen. IF you have the horsepower to run them... Control: Very good. I do think the players move about a little too quickly, without as much mass as they did in '2000, but the best out there. Sound: Again, very solid if not very different from last year. Gameplay: Excellent. This is where this game shines, with its multiple modes of play, its extreme customizability and pretty well designed interface. With the franchise mode et al, this game has very strong replay value. God knows, I played Live 2000 for about 8 months straight!

Caveat Emptor: To run this game as it should be played (at least 1024x768 resolution), with all the graphical bells and whistles on, you need some serious computing power. My PIII 600 with GeForce2 GTS and 256 RAM are not enough to run it smoothly with ALL the details on Maximum at anything above 800x600. It's playable at 1024 and 1280, you just have to tinker with the details.

Summary: This game is awesome
Review: I've read all the reviews. I don't want to start any arguments but the game is aweseom. If you get a decent nice computer the games goes smoothly and the graphics are awesome. The only falw that I see in the game is in the franchise as guys ratings get better their numbers don't. And when Shaq is like a 63 on rating he still scores 30 points a game. Those of you that say it's to hard to shoot on Superstar. On Superstar I shoot 60 percent. You just have to learn to let the ball go at the right time. So I suggest you all stop crying... because the game is awesome.

Summary: pales in comparison to nba live 2000
Review: its fair to make a direct comparison to live 2000- and the conclusion is that live 2000 is a much better game. live 2001 suffers from a lack of smooth and intuitive gameplay that seemed to come so naturally with live 2000. the cut-away shots are VERY realistic and awesome looking, but the regular viewpoint of the gameplay looks a step below (in my opinion) of live 2000. however, easports easily still produces the best NBA simulation on the market. while live 2001 is a notch below 2000, 2000 was one of the best sports games ever and would be hard to duplicate its success. so buy 2001 for the roster updates but dont expect to be blown away.
