Summary: A PRODUCT BY A PARASITIC COMPANY
Review: Inherent to mainstream businesses/companies is the greed for super-profits, and be parasitic. That means, over-hyping, hire parasitic indiduals and advertisers to endorse their products, just like this FS2000! This is what happens when you have a system ran by money and only serves/benefits the few (big businesses/companies).

Summary: A PRODUCT OF A PARASITIC COMPANY
Review: Inherent to mainstream parasitic businesses/companies (e.g., Microsoft) is the greed for super-profits. They usually over-hype their products through parasitic individuals and advertisers. And this product is one of the examples of that greed, FLAWED!

Summary: Sim Rocks! on High End Machines
Review: When this game runs at the maximum realism, real weather and graphics settings, it is truly a work of art. Microsoft has thought of everything to bring you the reality of flight operations. Plus the graphics around the world are more inclusive than any I have ever seen. From the pyramids of Egypt to Amazon jungle rivers to active lava flows in Hawaii, things I have personally seen...they were there.

The reality is compounded by the fact that there is a large user community which fly in simulated worlds with some enthusiast acting as Air Traffic Controller. I have tested Real Weather and have noted that the internet site is usually updated every 15 minutes. The weather presented is very accurate from Blizzards to sprinkles and crosswinds. Add on graphics are available as freeware on the internet or through purchase so you can make specific areas like Chicago Ohare super detailed.

The only drawback is that this sim requires a lot of CPU power to run the simulated environment. The faster CPU the better. The Video Card does not make that much of a difference. 16-32mb should be fine.

I originally ran FS2k on my Pentium I, 200mgz, 48 megs, 16megs Vodoo Card. The frame rate was slow but manageable as long as I kept the sound turned off and did not run real weather. I kept the graphics at level 2 (out of 6, with 6 the most detail)

I have since upgraded to a Pentium III, 866mgz, 256 mb, 64 mb GE Force Nvidia Card. This sim is a masterpiece on it. I recommend at least having a PIII to get satisfaction from this game. And I only recommend upgrading machines if its your time to do so. Don't let this game influence your decision because its a big investment.

Summary: Spectacular!
Review: This game is worth it. This game has spectacular graphics and easy controls. To make this game even better, you need to purchase the Force Feedback Joystick by Microsoft. With this Joystick, you are able to feel like you are flying the plane even better.

Summary: My black box said I crashed because of graphics turbulence..
Review: "De plane! De plane! It's stuttering! De plane!" First of let me say that you need a computer the size of the Empire state building to run this game. I got a PIII 800 with a GeForce 256 card and a 256 memory and this game tore it to shreds in a matter of minutes. This made me think again about upgrading my system. As long as you fly straight it's ok; that is if you want to fly to the North pole or the South pole everytime you boot up this game. But once you turn the aircraft, you'll experience graphics turbulence. You'll feel your computer shudder and shake as it battles it's way to redraw the scenery. You'll see your frames slow down really bad. Lower the graphics settings? Try it and you'll just make this game laugh in your face. Download the patch? Yes, I did and it was still stuttering. You can make every upgrade you want on your computer but if the game is the problem then it's a lost cause. If you're thinking about picking up this game, make sure you have a powerful computer that runs on nuclear energy. Like most other Microsoft Flight Sims, this one is geared more towards the gamer side and not so much on the real simulator enthusiasts. The planes are just too easy to fly. You could ask your kid brother to do the take-off procedure. Realism is not that all real as the game boasts itself to be. The game does have its own pluses though like a huge database of airports, downloadable Jeppesen weather reports, and of course there's a lot of third party support on this. If you're a gamer who wants to try flight sims then pick this game up. If you're a simulator , then pick up something else like Fly 2K! (very realistic) or Aerowinx 744(very very realistic).

Summary: BEWARE IF YOU ARE NOT RUNNING A HOT! MACHINE
Review: I agree that this is a great sim as far as graphic detail and features go, but if you do not have an EXTREMELY FAST machine with LOTS OF RAM, and a GREAT VIDEO CARD, you are in for a disappointment. I tried all of the tips and techniques for squeezing extra juice out my computer, but it was still a very slow jerky, frame rate. It also takes a VERY long time to install. I am running a PII333, with 96MB RAM, and a VOODOO 3 video card. I ended up removing it from my machine and reinstalling FS98, which runs fantastic on my machine. I think Microsoft could do a better job of tuning this thing up so it will run better on less powerful machines. It is not that much better than FS98 unless you use maximum scenery complexity, etc. I even tried to use FS2000 on Sparse everything, but it was still very slow. At the least Microsoft should put the real requirements on the box. I wouldn't have bought it if the box had said it required as much power to run smoothly. Hope this helps someone from making a mistake. I am keeping it until I get that monster machine sometime in the not too distant future.

Summary: Too big, too slow.
Review: I had both FS98 and FS2K on my P-333 128M RAM, and I'm running FS98 right now because FS2K is just too slow. Actually, FS2K was deleted from my machine since it takes over 1G of space with typical installation. You'll need a really expensive machine to get this thing flying.
