Summary: The Undisputed King of Adventure Gaming Today
Review: This is the best adventure game today, hands down. In the classic, film noir story you play Manny Calavera, a suave travel agent in Purgatory, just trying to make an honest living selling souls a travel package to Heaven. This is made more and more difficult by his loudmouth boss Don Copal and his scheming rival Domino Hurley (who is portrayed as the quissentessial Chicago mobster type). After their last bogus client, Manny tries to get a new client and steals one, Mercedes Colomar, from Domino, with the help of his driver buddy Glottis. Cheerful, big, bumbling and orange, this lovable demon is the comic relief of the game. Beautiful, smart, sweet and rich, Mercedes should be offered top notch travel to Heaven, but for some reason is not. Then, she dissapears and Manny is fired. Domino starts to converse with a mysterious, evil stranger, and Manny finds a heroic rebel who suspects that the Travel Agency's motives are less then honest.

Beautiful, 3D yet cartoonish graphics, a lush Jazz score wonderfully compliment a hilarious cast of characters. Slimebag lawyers, treacherous women, a Russian cyclops, hyped up Coat-Check ladies and deadly, poison shooting guns make for a dramatic, hilarious, cool and fun play. If you get stuck, contact the walkthrough on www.cheatersguild.com, because some puzzles simply don't make sense. You will fall in love with the characters, with perfect voices and faces. Buy it if you like adventure games, because there isn't another like it. ....

Summary: Gorgeous graphics & top-of-the-line story! Plan to repeat!
Review: Well, LUCASARTS has done it again! This was one of MY favorites! I love the story more than playing it. Throughout the entire game I felt as though I were in a movie! Not easily accomplished. The voices were right on cue. One of my favorite sites was the Cat Track. Being an owner of two white persians, this was especially dear. Plus the entire appearance of the Calvera Cafe was so deco, an era I adore. I have yet to complete it..I am well into my fourth day, but I know I will not be disappointed in the conclusion. Can hardly wait to complete my household duties ( which suffer until I complete each adventure game ) & get on the keyboard. The only thing I do not care for is the keyboard response. I would be already through! I am constantly making Manny walk backwards & look retarded! I love it & plan to repeatedly play it. Praises & Raves from Lovely Louisiana! Virginia

Summary: Excellent Puzzle Game
Review: This is a story about a travel agent called Manny Calavera. He is stuck in the land of the living selling packages to the department souls of the dead. And if he sells enough packages he can earn enough to make his final journey.

This game is full of demons, killer beavers, cat races with plenty of characters to chat to. The game has excellent graphics, set in Mexico with includes some creative Mayan architecture.

The story is funny and dramatic but the game manages to succeed in both areas. One minute I was struggling to get through one of the many puzzles and the next I would be laughing till my belly hurt.
I never thought I would find an adventure game with excellent logical puzzles, good animation and story but the first time ever no fighting, kicking, biting or even scratching. The puzzles ranged from easy to tear your hair out but they are all worth it.
I would recommend this game to anyone who loves a true adventure with logical puzzles and without the constant threat of kill or be killed.

Summary: You'll be hooked!
Review: Once I started playing 'Grim Fandango', I could not stop! This is the most creative adventure game I have seen in a long time. Not only is the storyline captivating, the attention to detail in this game is very impressive. As a fan of both art deco and film noir, I found 'Grim' to be a total delight! Some of the clips which move the storyline along are so well done, I could have sworn I was watching a movie. I have even played 'Grim' multiple times after completing it just to watch those clips again!

My only (minor) complaint about this game would be that there were one or two puzzles which were just about impossible; I have not come across anyone who was able to pass these difficult challenges without consulting a walk-through. However, if you're looking for an engrossing, dazzling game, this is the one!

Summary: A feast for the eyes and mind.
Review: Grim Fandango will definitally be enjoyed by fans of film noir and mexican mythology. I'd give it a 4 and a half if i could. The graphics have their flaws and the game runs choppy on systems not far ahead of the system requirements. Some of the puzzles are utterly impossible to figure out without incredible luck or the aid of a stradegy guide but the game is truly astonishing. You follow the character Manny Calavera, a travel agent for the dead, guiding souls to their final resting place in the best way possible. For some reason, Manny is denied any premium clients. Whos behind all this? Find out over a 4 year journey from the dusty streets of El Marrow, to the edge of the world and back again. Absolutely beautiful backgrounds and film noir-ish music immerse you in the atmosphere. Clever interface and variable controls are great. A very involving game. Not too long not too short. Humor and wit are weaved through every scene. In conclusion, film noir style, surreal visuals, toe tapping and ensuing music, gripping story, charming characters, and challenging puzzles will intrigue all game fans.

Summary: An Outstanding Game!
Review: Grim Fandango is far and above the most involving, exciting, and entertaining adventure game I've ever played. The plot is movie-quality, the characters belong on your favorite coffee mug, and the soundtrack (a separate CD of which is sold at the Lucasarts site) is stand-alone enjoyable. The game uses interactive dialogue, intelligent humor, an original head-turn feature to highlight points of interest, and some strange inventory combinations to pull the player into its wonderful latin-based Day of the Dead plot (Any game that features a mostly non-anglo cast is a rarity and deserves some good attention in its own right). Vivid environments and graphics only sweeten the pot. Grim Fandango is suitable for anyone who can use a keyboard--which is how far I'd extend my recommendation.

Summary: A modern classic... essential for Quest lovers
Review: Such a shame, they just don't make games like this anymore... In what is probably their last classic adventure game, LucasArts returned to the things that made Day Of The Tentacle, Sam & Max and Monkey Island - the games I loved so much as a kid - unforgettable classics. Grim Fandango is a fun game with a good story, hilerious dialogue and extremely lovable characters. The graphics and gameplay are of course modern (though the four year old graphics look outdated in today's standards, it's still great and a perfect look for the game) but the rest of it is completely in the style of these great oldies. The gameplay and interface - strictly keyboard-oriented - may take a few minutes getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it's just as comfortable as the mouse control of Sam & Max. The game is meant mainly for young adults - the humor is sophisticated, and the puzzles are much more difficult than those in the classic LucasArts adventures (but not so difficult as to become frustrating). If you loved those games when you were younger, then Grim Fandango is a must-have.

Summary: Probably the best adventure game ever made
Review: I was very dubious when I started playing Grim Fandango. An adventure game with polygons? And the SCUMM menu interface system that was in every single past Lucasarts adventure game was gone? But I gave it a try. Thank goodness I did.

Grim Fandango is a story about Manny Calavera, a travel agent for the souls of the dead. He sells packages to the departed for their four year journey to their just rewards, and if he sells enough he can earn enough to make his own trip someday.

Imagine the theme of Casablanca with some mexican folklore and Mayan art thrown in for fun. Add big orange demons, hot rods, killer beavers, cat races, and the grim reaper and you have Grim Fandango.

The story is supurb and the voice acting was top notch. It's very difficult to do a dramatic yet humorous story, but somehow this game pulls it off. Grim Fandango could yank me to the brink of tears one moment and cause me to almost bust a gut another.

The things that make a good adventure game are all there. Logical puzzles that don't cause your gameplay to come to a standstill until you solve them, good acting, good animation, and good code! If I were ever forced to reccomend only on adventure game to someone, this would be it.

Summary: Casablanca of the Dead
Review: The best part of this game is the story. In the classic Casablanca way, you are trying to put right a wrong that Manny was tricked into commiting. Mercedes, your Ilsa, is forced to strike out on her own when your company screws you (and her) out of her premium trip to the afterlife. It is now up to you, Manny, to find her and get her safely to the other side of the land of the dead.
You are accompanied by a good natured, if not a bit overzealous, mechanic/entity, Glottis, who makes the game more humorous and oddball then scary. Just listening to Glottis and his own mental adventures is a hoot!
I found the gameplay to be very easy and absolutely LOVED the time spent in Rubacava. Manny runs a small casino/bar (sound familiar?) at this level trying to compete with the larger gambling business in town, which happens to be gigantic cat racing.
Gathering clues and items to move you on your way flows easily into the story and as in any great game introduces you to new characters that accentuate the story.
After playing the game a few times, I found myself going back to the Rubacava level over and over just to interact and enjoy the level.
Overall, this is one of the best games I've ever played. Well worth the investment.
