Rating: Summary: Best MMORPG to date! Review: Dark Age of Camelot is a game that submerges you into anchient myth containing everything from Elves, dwarves, to the arcane arts. In this game there are 3 Unique but well balanced relms from which your character can live. This world is vast being larger then EQ yet smaller then AC (its a great size). Each individual relm is Vast containing many things to do. Camelot developed by Mythic Entertainment was built around the wants and dislikes (including mistakes) made by all the first generation MMORPG's. Essencially this game is the games dream right now. It has much in store for you in the lower levels and upper including Relm vs Relm combat for the powers of mysterious artifacts that power your entire empire. Highlights include: *New Group System which makes grouping only an advantage including several features for healers to keep track of the party status and the such. There also a group matching system which runs relm wide so you can find group members without having to scouer the world. *New Chat & Message system so that you can keep track of all those important messages as well as important information at to what is happeneing. *A Great spell system -Spells that look and are powerful and balanced in every respect. Includes DD, DOT, Group spells, Bolts, Healing, and just about anything you can think of. *New combat styles system to make every combat diffrent and intresting. Melee classes get Combat moves like casters get spells. (ie wirlwhind attack and the such) *Little down time, in the heat of combat the a well rounded group is nessiary for survival. But after the battle it does not take long for everybody to recover without aid. *Everyone can solo to an extent, however ones ability to solo no longer puts you above all others *Very Colourful trade skill system allowing players to create just about anything. Players create the best equpment (better then store bought) and there are about 10 skills each with at least 20+ formulas each (that is only final products). *Anti powerleveling system & anti camping system that rewards those who move around and hunt over those who stay and camp one spot. You maximum XP gain is capped depending on your level. *Equipment degrades over time (dont worry it takes some time to degrade. You can get several hunting outtings before you have to repair) keeping trade skills always in demand. *Item Con system so that n00b with uber weapon dont R0X0R everything. Baised on idea where though you can weild that uber sword. Do you know how to manipulate it for its full potential. Someone with impropwer skill using an item beyond there skill ofen may damage that item. *Mythic is GREAT for keeping close to its customers. Like the AC devs they are on the ball and keep you up to date while listening to the practical demands of the players In short Buy it!, Live it!, Love it! (and have fun trying to wrech youself away from your computer) WARNING!!!: This game is a serious addiction and may cause cronic tartyness.
Rating: Summary: Everything EverQuest should have been. Review: This game picks up where EverQuest sadly left off. The Dynamic Questing engine allows for more than hack n slash experience getting, eliminating the need for camping/farming. You can personalize your character almost immediately with a wide range of faces, hair, hair styles and clothing dyes. The trade skills are MUCH easier and very worthwhile (instead of loosing PP, like you do in EQ, you make profit from the first step!). A very enjoyable game. Rating: Summary: This game is just EQ2 with [cruddy] graphics Review: I really wanted to like this game but if you have played EQ and quit because you were bored out of your mind, this is not the game for you. Dont listen to all the fanbois saying how this game is the next great thing in MMOG, its just a formula game, following EQ's formula. If you are sick and tired of a level treadmill then you'll be sorely disappointed with DAoC. If you want to use your computer for other things while playing DAoC such as AIM, email, or web browsing, well you can't while playing this clone. I wanted this game to replace EQ which has become a soul destroying waste of time but it just doesnt make the grade. If you already have AC or EQ, then save your cash for something else because DAoC is just [like] other MMOGs.
Rating: Summary: Same old same old Review: I am surprised game companies these days cannot come up with more original gameplay.They must beg and borrow off older games and still in the end give us the same old stuff just wrapped up in better graphics and a little less downtime. This game is a blatant rip off of EQ and AC ,it takes the the better elements of these two games and came up with a system that does the following. 1) the downtime in this game is very low .Compared to EQ it is a breath of fresh air.Compared to AO it is definately longer but still low. 2)The game allows for soloing far more than EQ ever did but has made grouping much better experience wise. 3)Game took experience penalty and made it worse by making you spend money on constitution points which as you level to higher levels become a horrible pain.The good thing is you never lose a level but you still need certain classes to Rez you a feature from EQ that was much detested and brought to DAoC. 4)The game has some interesting moves one can execute called styles in battle but as you level you will realise you stick to a couple and let the others slide as the endurance is one big issue in the game and using too many styles deplete it.So basically you end up hitting a few hot buttons for variation in gameplay. 5) Graphics for a game released when graphic engines these days can handle such beauty as AO has shown is quite lousy just passable definately better than EQ but surely that is not a standard to aspire to. 6)The water surfaces look like a horrible science experiments gone wrong and swimming well forget that ,you have no option for underwater exploration and hence no excitement of drowning. 7)There is no sense of excitement and I left the game even before beta ended and 2 weeks later can honestly say I do not miss it because I could not get into the groove.The game could not hold my attention,it lacked something I cannot but simply say was innovative gameplay and exciting effects.I found after playing close to 20 classes the game was nowhere as engrossing as EQ or AO was.AO even with all its bugs managed to hold my attention far longer than this game. 8) Game companies should realise that gamers want more than rehashed gameplay with nothing but hours of levelling to look forward to.The problem is furthur compounded by as of yet succesfully tested Realm versus Realm aspect which is what all this levelling is building up to.At least in EQ you could graduate to killing beast of awesome power but what do we look forward to here but some poorly organized RvR which is still in its infancy since that aspect was easily interupted by a few people who refused to play by the rules. For me this game is nothing at all to write home about let alone spend money on except if you want something to entertain you for a couple of months .
Rating: Summary: Mythics Dedication Review: Mythic really has a gem of a game going here. Their plan to continue full company devotion to this game is whats really got me excited. The only bad reveiws of this game ive ever seen were about lack of content. This is, of course, true when this game is being compaired to other huge mmorpgs as the like of EQ, yet look at how long eq has been out, and how many updates and patches they've had! Verant truly has a great game with EQ, but not their entier team is working on it, just a small portion. Now, look at Camelots future, with the continued development, i can see this game going places Verant never dreamed of! You can bet I'll be picking up a copy of this game!
Rating: Summary: The Future of MMORPG's Has Arrived! Review: Hail fellow MMORPGers! I was lucky enough to test this game for about 4 months... All I can say is:- If any of you out there are MMORPGers and have played any of the other leading titles in this genre of gaming, then HOLD ON TO YOUR PANTS! This is about to ROCK YOUR WORLD! (and some). Exquisitely smooth graphics, Beautiful locations, uncountable options and choices in gameplay and set-up, trade skills, Special weapon moves, all types of armor, weapons, spells, and the chance to PvP with teams and solo players in different realms make this "Dark Age of Camelot" the true future of MMORPG as we know it. Bow down before the masters!!! Mythic Entertainment now RULE!
Rating: Summary: Finally, a game to dethrone EverQuest... Review: I played beta 4 for about a month, and I can't say enough good things about this game. My first impression of the game was that it ran incredibly smoothly even in beta. No crashes to the desktop, easy character creation, and no noticeable lag to speak of. The learning curve is extremely shallow, especially if you have played other online role playing games. The addition of an /advice macro allows new players to message more experienced players who volunteer to answer questions. I never found myself wondering how to something for more than a few minutes. Another advantage Camelot has is that it utilizes player vs. player combat on a massive scale to make playing a high level character worth the extra time you put into it. All this in addition to a friendly, supportive community make this game a winner. Camelot, the only cure for EverQuest!
Rating: Summary: Thoughts after day one Review: I enjoy it very much so far. By the way as someone who played(or not as the case maybe) EQ, AC, and AO on their first day, Dark age of Camelot has had an amazingly stable launch. <knock on wood> Rough idea with DAoC is all all players on server pick one of three realms. Albion:English, Hibernia:Celtic, Midgard:Viking The main focus of the game is to have the players of these 3 realms fight with each other. This isn't sane until you reach a lowish middle level ~20 (level cap is 50 currently). The game has large quests, usually made up of 3 or more steps, and small quests, task they are called which a single step. It features crafting which is in not depentant on character level, and is very anti Carpal Tunnel (Crafting skills depentant on having items in bulk, using skills on timers). Still little problems on thier launch day, bigest one being none of the thief classes are actually complete.
Rating: Summary: Camelot reigns supreme Review: Superior graphics. Stability. Separate windows for chat and battlespam. No /shout or /broadcast except in towns and cities. An excellent looking-for-group system. Tradeskills produce items that are not just important but necessary for higher levels. Guild emblems. Horses. Frontier forts and player-crafted siege weaponry to attack them and conquer them. Realm vs. Realm not Player vs. Player: warfare for the defence and glory of the Realm, not pointless player-killing. These are the things that show Dark Age of Camelot to be far better than the other games of the genre. It really re-defines the genre: no MMORPG after this will succeed without RvR.
